Were you around oak trees? Something called oak itch mites are known to cause this "comet sign." And the others are right about lymphangitis but I read that it could be a normal response by a healthy immune system. However, if it advances (extends), reddening worsens, or pain, it's suggested you seek treatment for possible infection.

MD here. This is common lymphangitic streaking, an allergic reaction and not blood poisoning

doctor here who practices modern medicine, blood poisoning is an outdated term used to describe bacteremia, or really any organismal â-emia.â this is a bug bite with lymphangitic streaking, wouldnât necessarily cause bacteremia. depending on the bug it could cause some sort of blood stream infection but without much info i wouldnât jump to conclusions. those types of infections are common with very specific bug bites (think lyme with certain ticks or malaria or dengue with certain mosquitos). op could reasonably keep an eye on it for now and if they start experiencing any systemic symptoms like fevers, chills, body aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or if the rash spreads, grows, develops discharge, or becomes painful then they should 100% go to the ER.
that being said this isnât medical advice and op could just go to the emergency room to get checked out for peace of mind, which is probably the safest thing to do if theyâre concerned enough to post about it on reddit.

Lymphangitis. I had this happen from a bug bite a few months ago. I waited a few days and it didnât get better so I went to my GP, and they put me on some antibiotics. I had no symptoms other than the lymph streaking (no fever, the area wasnât hot, no pussâŚetc). The problem is sure, it can clear itself up and be nothing, the problem is when it doesnât and it does end up being a big issue.

Despite what most people here say, the red streak you have is not sepsis. Sepsis comes with fever, 9 times out of ten, a overwhelmung feeling of sickness and circulatory symptoms.
What this looks like (and what most of the red streaks people confuse with sepsis are) is an inflammation of the lymph vessels called "Lymphangitis". However, this means that the bacteria transmitted by the bug bite are spreading through your lymph vessels, which in turn can lead to a systemic infection and sepsis if untreated.
Most of these cases are caused by staph or streptococcus bacteria which respond well to antibiotics.
The course of action I would recommend to you is as follows: Don't panic. Despite most comments, this is not immediately life threatening. get a doctor's appointment ASAP, they will prescribe antibiotics. Lymphangitis does not usually progress into sepsis, but it can.
Therefore, don't wait for a doctor or anything and immediately call emergency services (911 if you're in the US) if you experience fever, shivers, a feeling of "sickness" as if you had the flu, weakness, or dizziness. Sepsis can occurr and progress dangerously within 1-2 hours, so if any of this happens it's a case of take action now, not I'll rest a bit and if it's not better in an hour...
General rule of thumb is: if something that was previously localized to one part of the body suddenly causes whole body symptoms such as fever or a general feeling of sickness, that's the time to to go to the ER.

Man looking through these comments is like looking for a diamond in the rough. Most are regurgitated bullshit by people who really dont understand what they're saying.
