Not all...probably, but yes. I went to my bank to get approved for a car loan (wasnt even for me, i was co signing for my mother). The banker was super nice and borderline flirtatious, but then when she pulled up my account, her face dropped and her attitude pulled a 180. She even asked me flat out "why is your balance so low?" She was genuinely perturbed that i didnt have a savings at the time. I was just some kid in my early twenties, and trying to help my mom get a car, man...

Hey man, you have more and bigger issues than to worry about what some other guy thinks

I mean that could be a valid question in the process of determining approval for a loan.

Like if you are claiming a very high income or a very high liquid asset value.

For example if you claim $100k in checking and savings accounts but then have $15 in your checking it'd be a huge red flag.

Yes they do, they have internal notes and ratings on what you spend your money on, which can AND will determine if the loan or whatever you want from them gets approved or not. So, folks: everything that can and will look bad, do It in cash.

Or dont take loans from the bank where you have your account.

You would be surprised how many people are broke. After looking at a few thousand accounts like that, it becomes kind of boring.

So the rich ones are more interesting since they are rare?

They do. My wife and I had a meeting at a new bank when we wanted to join our accounts. I keep all my real savings with Wealthsimple but my wife wanted a brick and mortar store for in person interactions if we needed it. So we sat down and this manager couldn’t be bothered for most of the time we sat together. When he gets around to asking what kind of savings account we needed, I asked what their best interest rates are, and he tried dodging the question saying “it’s better than most banks” so when I showed him my Wealthsimple account to compare all of a sudden he seemed to remember about a whole different account he forgot to tell us about (eye roll)

Some do, long time back was at a bank (I have multiple bank accounts) and i had an account on this bank because it was the closet one, and was mainly used in the event we need to deposit money.

Went in there to get some task done, and the women working straight up said to me in hindi, out loud.

"This doenst even have any balance on this, at least put something into this?"

Never went back to that bank again.

They do. Then they treat me differently when I'm depositing a big chunk of money. Little do they know I'm going to spend it two hours. The cycle continues.

It’s happened. And it will continue to happen. I once went to the bank and had to withdraw 25 bucks out of my bank account because I had to pay a bill. And I had like 15 bucks left in my account. So all the lady did was look at me and just slid me a single note saying hey we can’t do the purchase right now but here’s this and it was just a little note that said “ sorry there’s only $15 in your account. Would you still like me to take it out?” which was at least nice. She wasn’t exclaiming to everybody in the place that I was broke as fuck.
