On behalf of the AnKing maintainer team, we want to wish everyone the best of luck this upcoming residency match cycle! ❤️
The AnKing deck may have played a small, medium, or huge role in getting you here. Maybe you volunteered with us, crushed Step 2, honored your rotations, or excelled on your aways.
Whatever your journey looked like, we are honored to have been even a small part of it. We hope the Step Deck helped you along the way as much as it helped all of us throughout medical school.
Take a moment to be proud of how far you’ve come and everything it took to get here, it was definitely NOT easy😅
We’re rooting for every one of you and hope you match at your #1! ❤️

Exactly as stated above. Its going to use the latest "First Aid Clinical Algorithms for the USMLE Step 2 CK", broken up structurally into the same format as the chapters, subsections, and specific topics (see image 1). Within the specific topics, there are going to be two sections; "flowcharts" and "disease information sheets". The flowcharts are going to be image occluded, following the stem-structure down the flowcharts (following image 2 structure).
The disease information sheets will be broken up by two main sections; "Diseases" and "High Yield Charts, Graphs, and Images". For the diseases themselves, its the name of the disorder followed by a little vignette of the disease, followed by "Management", "Complications", and "HYF". For this type of page, image occlusion will also be used to block out the individual sections labeled "Management", "Complications", and "HYF" of each disease in the "Hide one, guess one" structure.
For the "High Yield Charts, Graphs, and Images", its just going to be a raw flashcard of the actual image, chart, etc. Haven't thought too hard about it, but if yall have any suggestions, plz message me.
This deck is High Yield for STEP2 studying and NBME studying. This is a big undertaking, so support is appreciated (message me for details and questions). Good luck studying yall!
So I'm M1 at a DO school with a heavy in-house focus and 4-5 hours of mandatory lecture/activity each day. Decks made by prior students are 50-100 cards per lecture bringing my daily new cards using in-house decks to upwards of 300. In addition I try and bring in a few anking cards per lecture to start chipping away for step 1.
This is obviously unsustainable as it brings my daily review count well above 1000
While I have been above class average on in-house exams i don't feel so comfortable on them that I'm ready to take the advice of "anking only and cram in house a few days before".
How would you handle this? Enforce a hard daily limit on in house cards that would allow room for anking? Just power through in-house since I'm getting good scores and do some anking chunks on break?
I expect some will say "surely you aren't getting 300 high yield cards per day just filter them" but the in-house exams very regularly test low yield minutiae so that's a hard line to draw.
Hey guys, I'm quite embarrassed to say that I have two years left to become a doctor and I still haven't figured out how to efficiently use anki.
I take osces next year so I wanted to take my time and make flashcards for every chapter we covered in med school, but I feel like I either make too many useless flashcards that end up cluttering my folders, or I make the verso too long which makes memorizing it super hard. I also get anki fatigue so fast from my own cards but when I use famous packs, I found it easier to go through them (unfortunately my degree is not in english and I can't seem to find good packs in my language)
Do you guys have any tips on how to make flashcards more efficiently. Thank you in advance.
I’ve been having a bit of issues with my settings and was wondering what you guys do and what you’d recommend I do to change my settings. I’ve noticed the immediate next day after I press “good” on a new card, the next time I’ll see it is 12-15 days later if I press “good” again. Is there any way to change this to make the interval shorter to around 3-4 days?
(It's not my first time I used it for language learning)I tried to review the words the normal way, but now I have to wait 15 days for a card I barely understand it, I heard I should use filtered review, and when I understand the cards really well, tomorrow I do the normal review and so on, how should I approach this?
You can scroll through the document and edit the cards. The format is more like the document editing software we are used to. On the left side you will see the subdecks that fall under the deck you opened. You can click on those sundecks and be taken to that sundeck.
It allows most types of anki cards including image occlusion. you can drag and drop images to cards.
if you want to make image occlusion cards, just double click on an image that you put into a card and it will allow you to place the squares where you need them. You can also edit these image occlusion cards which is useful.
If you have suggestions, let me know.
Best,
The Mad Hatter
P.S. I also made it so that you can share decks via Google Drive. hit the "sync" button and follow the instructions on doing this. it should allow collaboration on decks.
Current OMS-1 who's trying to make the transition to AnKing and away from in-house material. I like the AnKing cards and how efficient they feel, but we're not in systems blocks yet and it feels very disorganized trying to sort through all, even with the AI smart search feature (granted AnKing won't cover all the niche thing in-house materials might want).
The current block that I'm on is covering pharm, physio, and path. We start MSK next block in January. Would it be more feasible and more streamlined if I were to start commiting to AnKing when I start systems? I feel like I spend too much time trying to see whether AnKing is worth it pre-systems that it's taking up a lot of time.
I feel like iam fooling around. Iam not really sticking to anki or the steps preparations. Feels like iam not talking this seriously. Iam in year two IMG and i dont really know when should i take the test. I feel even maturing the decks would be a good start. Which schedule did you guys follow? How much time did each system take you?
So I downloaded this such that I could make it so the lecture notes pop when I flip the card automatically, rather than having to click that little bar.
However, it’s now prompting me to update the AnKing Notetypes.
Do I select to update it? When I do, it makes a scary pop up saying “Do you really want to update the note types?”
How many new cards do I need to review per day? Actually, I have between 420 and 450 index cards to review daily.
I use FSRS and my retention rate is 0.91. I'm Brazilian and I use a deck that's specific to Brazil.
Hello everyone
Does anyone please have sketchy micro videos with english subtitles? I prefer watching the video on mute and reading the subtitles and i cant seem to find them anywhere
I have ADHD and need to see things multiple times for them to really lock in. Sketchy and Pixorize are great resources, but they weren’t helpful for me unless I’d hammer down each video one at a time before being able to reviewing them all mixed in the parent deck. It was so tedious and exhausting having to go and get the subfolder for each video every single time.
I also wanted to try priming (going through the cards before watching the video) without messing up my learning progress by using that as my first pass.
I tried to find an add-on that would help but couldn’t, so I made one called Anki Playlists.
How it works:
· Pick your videos and their order once. You never have to hunt for the next subdeck again.
· Confirm your passes and rounds. You get to do a few passes per video, then it automatically moves to the next one.
· Built-in Recall Breaks: After each pass, it pulls the image from the "entire sketch" field of the Sketchy Pepper deck.
—> When you're ready, press space, it shows a blank section, you recall as much as you can, then press space to see the final sketch again to check yourself. (You can add a timer for this or just uncheck it in the settings if you're not a fan).
· Priming Round: There’s an option to add a Priming round which is preview-only, so nothing is counted in your learning progress.
· Smart tracking: Only the 1st pass counts as part of your normal review; the others are extra. It remembers exactly where you stopped.
· Works on any deck with subdecks, and with Onigiri.
AnkiWeb add-on code is 1975658769 (Tools > Add-ons > Get Add-ons). I'll put the link and a step-by-step guide with screenshots in the comments.
Hope it saves someone the same headache. Let me know if yall like it or if anything breaks!
I use Anki primarily for my USMLE exams. I passed Step 1 in February and suspended all my cards afterward. I know I should have kept up with the reviews, but I got lazy. I restarted my prep in late May.
Whenever I started a new system, I would reset all my pathophysiology and clinical presentation cards for that section to “new,” and also make new cards for management. I never stopped to check whether this was the right approach.
Today it occurred to me that if the algorithm learns from my retention, then resetting cards to new might be distorting it. Wouldn’t the algorithm start to think I forget cards more often than I really do?
So my question is: when I unsuspend cards, should I reset them to new, or just leave them as they are and let the algorithm handle the spacing, even if I’ve forgotten most of them?
hey i recently started using anki and like i heard that u should not do more than new 50 cards per day cuz then it will be a whole lot of review cards but i make around 150 cards out of around 3-3.5 hrs of lectures , so should i do all the ones i make that day + review or any exact number to make it sustainable after a few weeks .
I thought it was 28-29k but bnb for example is ~22k cards and if I unsuspend the uworld ones that's maybe 1.5k more max?
Are there other 28-29k all just remnants and memory hooks etc. cuz I'm mainly just using bnb except for micro and pharm which is sketchy; unsuspending correlated uworld cards.
Current M2 here. Throughout the year I did anking and unsuspended tags from bootcamp, pathoma, and sketchy. When I was in the middle of a block and had an exam coming up, I unsuspended all the cards from a topic (we have 1-2 exams per week). However, when the block ended, I would only keep the HighYield tag unsuspended, and suspend the rest. I tried for one week to keep as many cards unsuspended as I could, but it was genuinely not possible since I was learning new material so quick for all the in-house exams, BUT I do stay consistent completing my deck most days.
I plan on taking STEP in June/July, and I don't know what the best course of action would be. Should I little by little, go back, review some content and unsuspend remaning cards that are not HighYield ? If I do this, should I reset the cards as well since I have not seen them in a while ? Or should I just stick to my HY cards and jump straight into UWORLD. I have been scoring very well on in house exams and everything I have learned, I took the time to understand. Of course, some things better than others. I appreciate any help.
I was terrible at maintaining my Anki habit, so I made an app to do it for me.
Flashlock makes you do a few flashcards before you can go on Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, or any other apps of your choice.
I just released it to beta on the Android app store, and it's totally free. Not even any ads.
I figured I'd tell you guys about it first, because I've seen your posts and the med community is inundated! I don't know how you do it!
Anyways, I'd love if you could try it out, let me know how I could improve (seriously, anything at all) and especially upload some decks to the community library!
i found this deck for the absite, its really nice but half the images are broken especially the image occlusion cards.
if any one has this deck with intact images or knows if there is a newer version i can get somewhere ?
