mute the bot First batch day 2

First pic is right when i added the yeast. Second is today about 18 hours later.

It’s my first time trying to make mead using a beginners kit someone bought me and I used about 2.75lb of honey and some spring water.

Is this two colours thing it’s got going on so far actually normal or have i done something wrong? Any tips for a newbie??

Did you mix the honey and water together very well initially? My guess is it’s not mixed well and it’s separation from the honey and water, where near the top is more water and on the bottom is more honey.

Either way the yeast will get to all of it and feast away! Having it not mixed well would only be a problem if you tried to take a hydrometer reading.

i tried my best to but tbh it was my first time and i put it in this and realized fast how much better itd have been to ferment in something with a wider top to mix easier and not just shake the shit out of it 😂

Yeah it takes a LOT of shaking, especially when it’s that full (looks like you’re well over the gallon mark). Haha. Well don’t stress about it. The yeast will get to the honey!

Best recommendation is to fill the water halfway or less before shaking the bejezus out of it.

For primary this is generally considered filled way too much, but if it doesn't explode out through the airlock may as well see where it goes
