He’s starting to get a bit thin at the top but he glows like he’s made of fire.

On the west side. Last year, it was so vibrant that I saw a couple families stop by on the weekend to take family photos with it as a backdrop. 🙂 It's still beautiful this year, but maybe last weekend was it's peak.

Announcement Google AI is Wrong About Voting

Post image
161 Upvotes

I was checking the early voting hours for my local city hall. Google seems to think there isn’t early voting which is ridiculous because I just voted there…

Remember to confirm all you find on the internet concerning the election, including when and where you can vote.

Edit: Apparently, I need to add some info since I’m getting so much hate for talking about ai. I’m a masters educated public school teacher. I know how to conduct academic research and teach this skill constantly. When I started my search for early voting hours at my local municipal hall, I thought a basic google search should have been sufficient. As many of you know, Google has plopped an ai summary at the top of all searches. Hoping it might save me a click for something as basic as hours of operation, I scanned it; knowing to take the results with a grain of salt and shot of tequila. I knew it was wrong immediately and decided to share that info here since it involved your right to vote and as yet another sign not to trust ai for those less skilled in knowing when further research is required. Didn’t expect a PSA to get so much attention and hate.

Pop.up Brewers shop in Verona

Post image
104 Upvotes

Posting this Tuesday morning - there is a pop up shop at the corner of Main and Verona Ave. They have hats, shirts, flags, etc. He says the gas station owner here let them set up. He says they'll have World Series stuff tomorrow or Thursday if they win tonight here.

He said they has been somewhere in Madison but had some issue so they moved here. Anyway just posting in case anyone looking for cheaper stuff. No affiliation, just saw him setting up on my way to work.

Beltline confusion

As someone relatively new to the Madison area, can someone please explain why the westbound Beltline exit for Dodgeville/Midvale Road is ALWAYS backed up? 😂 It doesn’t seem to matter what time of day it is, there’s almost always a line of cars waiting to exit. Is there a reason for this, or is it just one of those Madison traffic mysteries I need to learn to accept? 🤣

Extreme Auto Detailing LLC

Just wanted to warn folks to be wary of these folks. I went with these folks based on Google Reviews: first mistake.

Pickup occurred blind because every single email they sent to me was flagged as spam.

I would describe the experience as top-tier pricing for mid results. I was called a dick for saying that.

They went with “my photos don’t show what you’re seeing” and decided to gaslight me about the two dirt spots that were on car that they failed to remove after 300 bucks plus of exterior detailing.

There are a lot of detail shops in town. And since they clearly manipulate reviews (they blocked mine from publishing), I thought I’d use the sub to warn off others from using Extreme Auto Detail.

As always, YMMV.

Stolen Bike Update

Post image
56 Upvotes

Hi all,

It’s me again with an update about my bike. It was spotted at the Whole Foods in Hilldale but we just missed the bike and person who took it. The suspect has a white hat on, has black gloves on, is wearing a black and white bomber jacket, appears to be white, is about 5’9”, skinny, is wearing black jeans, and white shoes. I do have a photo of him but don’t want to break Reddit’s guidelines.

Please if you see him contact me and/or call the Madison Police. MPD did come to the scene and is searching for him as well. The suspect has a knife so please don’t approach him.

Also, huge thank you to the Reddit user who let me know it was at Whole Foods! Without your message we wouldn’t have been able to find all this out.

Thank you.

Can we get a single thread going for today (10/27) to post any official or unofficial watch parties that are going on in Madison. I have only heard of Working Draft with an official watch party (https://www.workingdraftbeer.com/events/2026/10/27/game-four-of-the-fall-classic-go-crew) what else is going on tonight?

Recognize this cat? (Reston Heights/Glacier Valley)

Post image
33 Upvotes

This cat has been hanging out around Glacier Valley apartments for over a year now. I’ve assumed it may be an indoor/outdoor cat from somewhere nearby, but it’s still worth putting its picture out there!

Last summer, this friend was incredibly shy and cautious. Some new residents have been leaving food out for this cat, and today it was incredibly affectionate and seeking attention.

Glad to see Madison residents show up for this meeting! With all the controversy on data centers & AI, are there any thoughts from folks who attended the meeting on the proposed drafts? Did you feel heard by the folks presenting and that your questions & concerns were addressed?

Change of career in your 40s, 50s and beyond?

Have any of my Dane County neighbors made a career change, vastly different than what you’ve done for most of your career? Why did you make the change? Any advice you would give for those wanting to make the switch and delve into something new? I’m a professional with an advanced degree working in healthcare and want something different, currently my mind is set on IT (not sure what area, exactly) and hope it’s not too late!

Landlord Woes (Need Help)

Hey all, I need some guidance when it comes to getting my landlord to fix stuff or if I should try and break my lease to gtfo.

Here’s my situation:

- 1905 house, was probably nice at some point, but preventative maintenance is not in my landlords vocabulary. I live on the upper floor, it’s around 900 sqft, and there is an attic above my unit.

- $1500/mo rent

- Kitchen “sags” 3 degrees towards the center due to heavy appliances. Honestly to be expected with such an old house so this is not an issue

- Previous tenant(s) used the butcher block island as a cutting board, it is cracking and falling apart. When I offered to replace it with a new island, my landlord responded “I dont really like the one you sent, what if we glue the old one and sand it?” What do you mean “we”, dude??

- Front and back porches (one two story exposed, another two story 3 season) are both falling off and buckling. There is a visible gap of maybe an inch between the exterior wall and porch wall where you can see outside. I am waiting for the day that when I either wake up or come home from work and one of these falls off

- The house has no gutters. They have been off the house and in the side lot since I moved in.

- I was in the epicenter of the hail a few months ago (Atwood neighborhood). Before I resigned my lease in September, he said hed get insurance to come out and look at the roof to get it fixed, as well as potentially replace the siding. No one has come out, I am convinced he pocketed whatever insurance money, and the siding is asbestos I’ve learned, which is NOT getting touched for sure.

- The bathroom has a clawfoot tub which is constantly leaking from the hot water faucet. I measured 3 times and its 2 cups per minute of hot water, which comes out to 180 gallons per day. This causes the bathroom to be at an elevated temperature, maybe 10 degrees hotter at all times which has caused mold growth and I constantly have to clean the tub or else it gets disgusting and slippery. The exhaust fan doesn’t pull any air either, and a couple days ago I noticed mold growing on the bathroom door. Ive had awful allergies for the last few months and I think this is the culprit.

- The bathroom sink is not properly secured to the wall and is very wobbly on its pedestal. The wall had been patched up, but not painted, and I asked him if he could fix both these issues. He used silicone glue around the edge of the sink, and then added two haphazardly placed vinyl tiles as a backsplash, which after 2 days started peeling away.

- Theres a water softener in the basement, but I recently discovered it’s not even connected! Lmao

- Gas/electric is always at least $170 per month, and has been up to $250 at times. Ive done my best to seal my attic door that I can. Windows are not insulated at all, even after trying my best to seal them with gaskets.

- This is the only property he owns other than his own house, like cmon man. My neighbors say hes always been like this and never was good with maintenance.

I have already brought up the bathroom issue, and he asked if there was any time I planned to be away to work on it, which no, theres not, because I live there.

Should I just get an inspector to come at this point since my LL appears to have no interest in fixing anything? Or do I need a reality check and Im overreacting. Idk, I feel like living here has been degrading my mental and physical health and is driving me insane :(

Any former federal employees who moved to state employment?

This seemed like a good place to ask this question as it's Madison.

I'm currently in the interview process for a position at the state. The opportunity and team seem fantastic.

I have 10 years of service as a federal worker. Feeling beat down. Been through a lot the last 2 years.

Have other feds in the area moved to state employment? How was that transition? What do you miss? Do you regret it?

Someone took my bike. If anyone sees a blue Centurion bike for sale or somewhere around town, it would be awesome if you could let me know. It had a kryptonite lock on it but that's probably gone. Doesn't have the drink holder anymore.

TIA

TDS Outage

Anybody else dealing with a TDS outage right now? The customer support lines seem to be down, as well as their outage map. Not ideal timing with the Brewers game!

Update: We were able to access the game with a YoutubeTV free trial. Still, not great timing!
