Discussion Rewatch questions

I just finished a rewatch and I kept track of little questions or thoughts, when I finished, I deleted things that got answered to my satisfaction and got left with a cheeky 15 questions. I understand there is most likely no actual answer to most of these or up to interpretation but would just like to hear people's thoughts or ideas anyways. Do not feel obligated to answer all of them, that would be awesome! But feel free to pick and choose.

  1. What are some of your theories about who Jill is, the lady helping Ben in the regular world?

  2. Who do you think is shooting on the outrigger during the time jumps?

  3. Why is there a rope in the ground after the well disappears, just attached to the timeline because Sawyer is holding it?

  4. Who created the pendulum that locates the island?

  5. How does the whole summoning the monster from Ben's room work (almost like a mini heart of the island), and what do you think he meant by it summoning him instead?

  6. Why did Eloise leave the island?

  7. Why does MIB say he is disappointed at

everyone on the beach after knocking out Richard, he brought them all to the statue and had them wait?

  1. Why is MIB stuck as Locke?

  2. Who do you think killed all the ajira passengers?

  3. Why didn't Flocke just let Jack die on the beach when mortars came?

  4. Why do you think the heart of the island light is so bright in "Across the Sea" but dimmer in the finale?

  5. Why do you think they changed up the words when Mother was passing on to Jacob her role, she said "same as me" then with Jacob to Jack he says "now you're like me" I know it's a subtle difference but it seems like a conscious choice since we see the changing of the guard 3 different times.

  6. What do you think the chant Mother and Jacob means when passing the torch? Even though it is just symbolic.

  7. Whose skeleton down at the cork?

  8. Why didn't Desmond or Jack become a smoke monster, messing with the heart of the island?

Thanks!

  1. She's an Other - they have a network on and off the Island.

  2. Possibly Widmore's people. It doesn't really matter.

  3. "Whatever we had with us is along for the ride."

  4. The Lamppost is a Dharma station. Eloise says Dharma built it so Dharma made the pendulum.

  5. The monster is tethered to the Heart of the Island so one could surmise that he can sense/feel/whatever intent to use it. Ben just meant that he thought he was using the monster, but the monster was using him.

  6. Probably to give birth to Daniel and raise him the way she read in his journal. She is the self-appointed keeper of the timeline.

  7. Because he feels they blindly followed Jacob and the MiB hates Jacob as much as he hates the Island.

  8. Because Jacob is dead - Ilana explains this.

  9. IMO? Widmore. I don't think the monster had time.

  10. Because he doesn't know where the Heart is.

  11. Production glitch? I really never noticed.

  12. Because it's the intent that matters, not the exact wording.

  13. See above - it's just ritual.

  14. Someone else who tried to uncork or exploit the Island maybe?

  15. Because neither of them died down there.

For number 11, it's because the stone cork wasn't installed until after the events of Across The Sea, right? The cork makes the light appear dimmer from outside the cave. Jacob probably directed later civilisations, such as Mesopotamians or Egyptians (both of whose scripts are written on the cork), to install the cork. The Lost Explained channel on YouTube supposes that the cork is a response to some kind of ancient incident, similar to the Incident at the DHARMA Initiative. And, I believe, the skeletons in the chamber are people from those ancient civilisations who died while trying to install the cork.

Agreed with most. However:

9- I think it is most probable that Locke killed the Ajira passengers, just because he expressed that intent himself to Richard "We have to take care of the passengers", Richard :"what do you mean take care of them?" . MIB Flocke: " You know what I mean". Maybe MIB did it himself, or maybe a few Others were sent on the mission to kill them, since Flock gave the order, as Leader of the Others.

11. The dim light. In Mother's days, yhere was no corck. So light was bright. Corck apparatus was built by Egyptians much later, most likely under orders of Jacob, after MIB tried another attempt at the wheel in the well, and caused an "incident".

14. The skeletons are probably the part of the same Egyptian team that built the corck under Jacob's orders. It is unlikely that anyone else could find the cave/light if they were not Protector. Probably Jacob also instructed them to build also the water canal systems in the cave, which part of it leads to the Temple area. And he instructed them to build the healing pool, as a compensation for the Egyptians' sacrifices and those who died building the cork, and to heal those who survived but were heavily irradiated by the exotic energy.

For number 10, this doesn't make sense because he tried to kill them all on the sub and still wouldn't know where it was.

I know these questions don't really matter, just things I noticed

Because he wants to leave. He can't leave while the light at the Heart is lit.

I don't know if that's necessarily right, he seems to want to just leave at first. He wanted Sayid to kill Desmond, who was needed to go down there. Once he fails at killing them all on the sub, he then decides to find Desmond and sink the island. I think going to the heart was just the last fuck you and then easy way to kill the candidates, but it wasn't his intention at first

He can't leave because he's tethered to the Heart. He has to put out the light to go. It's possible he hoped having all the candidates dead would do it, but the sub was the first time they were all in one place.

Regarding #10, how does he not know where the heart is? He, above anyone should know where there heart is, shouldn't he, considering that's where his brother killed him?

He says at one point that he's tried to find it again and can't.

I'd forgotten that, thanks.

It's the reason why he and "his people" start building the wells all over the island (and apparently, the donkey wheel) - he's trying to find another place where he can access the "light" his Mother had shown him when he was young.

(This is before he's turned into a Monster, though, but I think the point still stands - he can only find it when the Protector of the Island brings him there)

4. Answered by Eloise when Desmond meets her in LA

8. For whatever reason, he lost the ability to change his form when Jacob died. Insert your favorite arbitrary reason here.

11. Don’t believe this has any relevance/not intended to be a difference

Always wondered about that too.

Ben's "it was summoning me" reads to me as him realizing the control was always an illusion. He thought he had a pet murder cloud on speed dial, but it was letting him feel powerful while using him for its own plans. That's such a good humiliation for Ben specifically, finding out he's been on the receiving end of his own management style.

I just assumed they were shooting/getting shot at themselves on the outrigger. Like they time skipped a couple minutes in the future so they were behind of/ahead of themselves or something.
