Kernel 7.0.0-42 Video Solution
I let this kernel version install today, just like I've done many times before. This is the first time an update did something weird. Watching videos on YouTube, Reddit, and Facebook all showed this kind of green discoloration in various places. I went back to 7.0.0-38 and problem solved. I hope the next kernel update fixes the issue.

Glad you caught that and rolled back, thanks for posting it. Green patches in video only (not the whole desktop) is almost always the hardware video decoding acting up after a driver/kernel change, tbh. Not a dead GPU or anything scary.
Quick way to confirm: turn off hardware acceleration in your browser and see if the green goes away. In Firefox it's Settings > General > Performance, untick "Use recommended performance settings" and then untick "Use hardware acceleration when available". Chrome/Brave has the same toggle under System settings.
If the green vanishes, that's your culprit and you can just leave it off as a workaround until a newer kernel sorts it out.
Would help others if you mentioned what GPU you've got (Intel, AMD, Nvidia). Can grab it with:
inxi -G
Meanwhile you're fine staying on 7.0.0-38. Just don't let the Update Manager remove it when it offers to clean up old kernels, and you can pick it at boot via Advanced options in GRUB if it ever defaults back to the new one.
Worth filing a bug too if you've got a few minutes, since regressions like this get fixed way faster once someone posts their hardware and kernel version.
