Ubuntu Studio - Snap annoyance

1 Upvotes

Reaching out to the gurus with Ubuntu Studio. I'm predominantly a Debian user. I left Ubuntu because of the annoyance of Snap. I''m trying out Ubuntu Studio for music production. I see this for Snap packages installed after installing Ubuntu Studio:

$ grep PRETTY /etc/os-release
PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS"

$ snap list
Name Version Rev Tracking Publisher Notes
bare 1.0 5 latest/stable canonical✓ base
core24 20260824 2124 latest/stable canonical✓ base
desktop-security-center 0+git.4adf2b9 206 1/stable/… canonical✓ -
firefox 154.0-1 8763 latest/stable/… mozilla✓ -

gtk-theme-orchis 2022-07-20 3 latest/stable/… eeickmeyer -

snapd 2.77.1 28254 latest/stable canonical✓ snapd
snapd-desktop-integration 0.9 391 latest/stable/… canonical✓ -

Are there any dependencies on the Gnome/Ubuntu 24.04 packages from the Linux audio specific packages here? Outside of Firefox, everything else seems to be related to Snap itself or ESM, for which I would not be using.

Tarab: a small mp3/FLAC player with a built-in EQ and headphone profiles (AppImage, GPL-3). Looking for feedback

Wading through the slop

28 Upvotes

There’s a lot of “I made X daw for Linux” on here, and I applaud you all for taking down the proprietary music software monopoly’s or whatever. But I can’t find the slop DAW I’m looking for because I have to wade through all the other AI-created whatever on here.

As an aside, I worry about a vibe coded daw someone makes on a whim, sure, it seems great now, but what happens when the person making it gets tired of vibe-maintaining it? Now you gotta find a different “I made a clean room copy” of Fruit Loops or whatever? A fork’n own it yourself?

My proposal is simple. I propose we designate 1 thread per month as the “share your slop DAW thread” and make it easy to find, or avoid.

But alas, I’m not in charge here. Can someone point me to the purple colored Ableton-esque DAW? I thought it was cute.
