Meganoob BE KIND Linux or Windows 10?

Sorry if this is too basic or dumb but what's a better os for someone like me?

Im currently looking to ditch windows 11 but I don't want to lose access to some of the multiplayer games I have and maybe future multiplayer games.

I'm a very basic user. I just browse the Internet, watch movies and YouTube, and play games. I don't really do anything else on my pc.

So I'm asking what's better for someone like me? Is Linux that worth it or should I just downgrade to Windows 10?

(Update)

So after more research and help from everyone I've decided to try out Linux through dual booting, and if I like it I'll fully make the switch.

Thank you everyone for your input.

Depends. What games do you play? It's very likely you can still play them on Linux.

So my main multiplayer games are battlefield 1 and 4, The Finals, Arc Raiders, Fortnite, Wobbly Life, Fall Guys, Marvel Rivals, and Titanfall 2.

I've seen that some of these games work fine on Linux but I'm also aware that I would have to completely abandon Battlefield, Fortnite, Titafall2, and Fall Guys to make the switch.

I'm just seeing if it's worth abandoning them.

Linux is going to be a good bit safer than Windows 10 before too much longer if not already. Your browser stuff will be the exact same. On the downside you will likely lose some/most/all your favorite multiplayer games depending on what they are, see https://areweanticheatyet.com/

I really appreciate the link and it actually made it more easier to think about switching over.

So far the only game that I would have to leave outright is just Fortnite. If that's the only downside I think that's fine.

Thanks again.

Windows 10 is end of life, you should be using an operating system that's still being supported and getting updates so Linux is definitely worth it

Mint is a great general purpose distro which will work on about anything with 4+ GBs of RAM, but if you want something a little more modern (as Mint uses slightly older software for stability) then try PikaOS with KDE Plasma.

Check game compatibility with the protondb website, they have a whole rating and review system so it's really easy to see if games work and if they need any extra steps.

Some games don't need Proton or use a different workaround to get it working on Linux. For example Minecraft (modded and vanilla) is available through Prism Launcher and Roblox can be played with Sober.

I know it's a huge security risk to downgrade, but I also feel it's risky keeping windows 11 personally.

I'm just trying to have my cake and eat it too because I know Linux would be better. It's just that i would have to abandon some games I've already spent quite some time on.

My main games I would have to abandon would be the Battlefield games, Fortnite, Titanfall 2, and Fall Guys. While also abandoning any new multiplayer games that don't support Linux.

I'm just seeing if it's worth it.

Linux is a better os in general but truthfully if the only thing you do on your pc is play games and browse the internet there is no reason for you to even leave windows 11…. It will give you access to the newest libraries and drivers required for the newest games…. Steam works on Linux and most of the games I touch work in that environment but I can’t promise that yours will …. We should probably start with the reasons that you want to leave windows 11 to begin with and that is probably the real determination factor for what you should do…. There aren’t many things about windows 11 that aren’t also true about windows 10 it’s all a windows dumpster fire

Why not both?

I'm a little unfamiliar with dual booting and I just started doing my research so maybe.

I would downgrade to windows 10, but also set up dual booting into linux so you can try it
