Maybe I went a little clip-happy with The Hot Potato Job, maybe not. Maybe it's an overreaction to the last few episodes really sweating me hard to find one good solid clip, maybe not. Either way, you got yourselves a stitch of nearly all my favorite scenes in the episode, I hope you like 'em. Sadly, to do this episode justice would be to just post the whole dingdang thing. I wouldn't have to retask a satellite to do it, but someone somewhere might complain about the legality of it.
I mean ... I would download a car ...
Just kidding. The Hot Potato Job is a super-great episode and for all the usual reasons. Everyone's working outside their comfort zones in this one, from Sophie playing Female Eliot as Miranda Kaley (E-Y!), Eliot playing an accountant, Nate and Parker playing teachers and ... well okay, Hardison doesn't really play anyone other than himself minus the whole Urban Farmer gag, and you know I had to clip that one!
One of my most favorite things is when they make up the name for a con, and honestly, The Snipe Hunt Variant of The Romanian Circus is such a gloriously nonsensical word salad the writer in me squeees every time. I wish they did that every episode, but then I guess if they did that, it'd become old hat, and no one likes old hats.
Anyways. I digress. The con is great, with Sophie running point and just living in the moment. It's all part of her effort to teach Nate a lesson about not being such a damn stick in the mud, and it's the kind of lesson he needs. Our man Nate has himself a wonderful woman who's absolutely willing to put up with a lot of his Catholic Guilt (he and Matt Murdock must've gone to the same seminary) and it's always fun to see him try to explain what he wants.
Like Sophie don't know. C'mon, son!
This one's a lot of fun all the way through, and a lot of that (once again) is thanks to the guest star. In this case, it's Mitch Pileggi, who you probably know from one of two places. The X-Files or his first appearance in season 4 of Supernatural and his later return in season 6. Like some of our other big guest stars, Mitch doesn't chew the scenery or display a truly harrowing lack of morals. No, he's just a power hungry, arrogant and frankly paranoid SOB who wanted to steal a diamond. POTATO!
Before I go, I really do have to talk about Sophie nailing that 'real life mole'. Fully living in the moment, working with some kind of Griftsense that'd put Daredevil to shame, she sniffs Janitor McCue's crimes in a hot second. Nate? Has no choice but to admit the truth.
She's good at what she does.
As you can tell, this is one helluva of a favorite of mine. I hope you like it, and the fancy treatment 10/10s are going to be getting from now on!
