Looking for a Database Study Partner

I’m a junior backend developer working with PHP and Laravel, and I want to strengthen my database fundamentals.

I’m planning to study SQL, database design, indexes, query optimization, transactions, and concurrency.

Looking for someone interested in studying these topics together, sharing resources, solving exercises, and keeping each other accountable.

Let me know if you’re interested.

A study-partner request is more likely to work if you add your time zone, weekly availability, preferred pace, and whether you want a project or problem-set focus. For a first shared task, design a small schema (for example, orders and inventory), write a few queries, then compare the query plans after adding an index. That gives you a concrete way to see whether your goals and working styles match before committing to a longer schedule.

My bad

I work a 9–5 job, so the pace will be relatively slow, and I’m looking for someone comfortable with that.

I’m in the Egypt time zone (UTC+3).

My plan is to start with database fundamentals, practice with LeetCode problems, and gradually work our way toward database internals. Once we reach that point, we can decide whether to continue with databases or move on to another topic where one of us has knowledge gaps.

I’m also open to building a project together along the way. My main goal is to build a solid understanding of the fundamentals and learn consistently.

Oh nice, database fundamentals are so underrated. Most devs just learn enough SQL to get by and then wonder why their app is slow at 10k users. I'd be down for this, what timezone you in?

Query optimization is the part I'm most interested in because figuring out why a query is slow can be tricky.
