Hello,
My son (11 y/o) loves to read Manga, and he bought a kobo libra (b&w) with money he earned/received over holidays last year. He's had it since around x-mas time, and it's generally working as advertised. However recently - he's having issues with the books he wants to read loading onto his kobo. Some info here... while I have my own kobo all my books are downloaded directly to my device from my computer, so I don't run into the same issues and don't know enough to help him more than I've tried already.
Book source: Overdrive/Libby using our public library
How he finds books: he uses the search option on the kobo itself and either borrows or puts on hold
What's happening: more and more frequently, when he tries to borrow a book, he gets an error message saying he can't download from libby right now, and to try again later. We've then tried off my iPhone with his login info for the library (both the library app and the libby app) and the book borrows flawlessly, but it won't then sync with his kobo after we press the sync button.
We've tried this approach both with books he hasn't read before, and with books he HAS read before, since I have read sometimes it won't work if the compatibility for the specific ebook doesn't match what is in the kobo store.
Our library allows up to 75 books to be taken out/put on hold at a time. He has gotten his list up to 71 at times, but hovers around 50 books at a time (yes it sounds like a lot, but these are short manga books, he reads like 3-5 a night)
Fixes we've tried:
1. borrow directly from libby and then sync to device --> has NEVER worked when we tried this approach
log out of libby/overdrive, and then log back in --> sometimes starts working again for a few days, then stops working again
login to his kobo account, delete ALL BOOKS out of his archive (this took a while), and then try again --> this didn't really seem to solve much, but it did allow him to borrow books he had previously borrowed and then returned with less issue
create a brand new kobo account and start from scratch --> clearly here i am writing this message, so this didn't seem to solve the problem either.
Any help/guidance/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My poor kid just wants to read his books!
