I made a free, open-source knitting chart app and I’m looking for feedback!

Hihi, I’ve been working on Knitplot, a knitting chart app, and I’d love to hear from you. It’s free and open source, and it will always stay that way. I made this for myself because I wasn’t completely happy with other options out there, and if other people want to use it that’s even better! You also don’t need an account to use the chart maker and you can still save charts to your computer without an account.

Some stuff you can do with it:

- See a realistic knitted preview as you design, including how your motif looks repeated. You can set your gauge so the proportions match.
- Follow your chart in Knit Mode, which keeps track of your row and stitch position, with cute little virtual stitch markers. You can also print written PDF instructions if you prefer paper.
- Upload a PDF pattern and edit its chart, then use Knit Mode to follow along instead of keeping your place on a piece of paper. I’ve done this for a few patterns so far and I find it soooo much easier.
- Turn an image into a colourwork chart, or draw one yourself and play around with the colours (ofc).

It’s still a work in progress. Right now, I’m working on making it easier to design a colourwork yoke, and I’d really appreciate input from anyone who’s designed one or wanted to try. I’m trying to make the shaping logic consistent and realistic ofc, but what features would you want to see? Any and all other feedback is also very welcome!

You can have a try here: https://knitplot.art
I’d love to see what you make and/or hear what you think!

Using way more yarn than expected..

I’m knitting after a 30 year break, first project a top-down raglan sweater in simple stockinette. I am using the yarn suggested for the pattern (Ficolana Peruvian). The pattern suggests 4.5mm needles, I am using 6mm to hit gauge which is 18 st/ 10cm and 26 row/ 10cm. My work is spot on gauge at the moment. It might be a bit off after blocking. But the pattern suggested I needed 11 skeins (1056m). I haven’t finished the body yet (maybe 5cm to go plus rib) and I haven’t even started either sleeve and I only have 3 skeins left.

Of course the supplier has no more stock of the colour I selected….

How can this be so far off - or is it more likely a mistake in the pattern?

thanks

Why is my neckline pulling upwards? Too many stitches or wrong bind-off?

Hi! I just finished the neckline of my Vest No. 1 by MFTK, but the front seems to be pulling upwards instead of lying flat. I used a stretchy bind-off.

Could this be caused by picking up too many/few stitches, or is my bind-off too loose/tight? Is there any way to fix this without having to undo the entire neckline? I’d be so sad to frog it because I’m actually really happy with how neatly the ribbing turned out (at least by my standards 😅).

Any advice would be appreciated! 🥺🫶🏼

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the help :) Very thankful for this community!!

Chunky Dahlia lace pattern - have I (beginner) messed up or shall I just trust the process?

Hi there! 🧶
I am currently working on the Chunky Dahlia Sweater by leKnit. I’m still fairly new to the knitting world and this is my first time knitting lace. I think the pattern and lace diagram are easy to follow - I have the correct stitch count and it’s all going very well, except for this weird looking decrease on the leaf border… it’s on both sides of every leaf, and I know it’s caused by going from a purl to knit stitch but I feel like the wonky border/leaf edge makes it look off. 🤔

I’m not sure if I can include the pattern sequence I’m wondering about, so preferably if someone who has the pattern already and maybe has knitted the sweater themselves could give me some insight here.
(I’m following diagram B in the pattern)

Is it supposed to look like this (see photos) or have I messed up somehow?

Continental flat stranded colorwork help

I recently started the Eloise Bandana by Katryn Seeburger and am strugglingggg with catching floats on the purl side. I consider myself an intermediate knitter but flat colorwork is kicking my butt. I am finding it very difficult and clunky to catch floats on the back side and am wondering if anyone has any tips or tutorials they recommend to make the process easier. I’ve tried googling tutorials but I can’t seem to find something that clicks and I’m unsure what I’m doing wrong or how to make the process smoother. Any help is appreciated :)

Freckle sweater short rows

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello, I am currently knitting the Freckle sweater by duck duck knits https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/freckle-sweater-2 and I have a question in regards to the short rows. I have now finished short row one and it says that I am supposed to purl the purl stitches and knit the knit stitches. However I thought when knitting back to BOR using short rows I would have to purl all the stitches? I'm not really sure which stitches I would have to knit - is it the ones that I slipped?

Thank you very much for any help you can give me 😊☀️

looking for yarn related help!

hi everyone!

i'd love to knit this vest

as a gift for a friend, but to make it more unique i want to add some fair-isle like colorwork on it. the suggested yarn is drops air but i'm afraid that the final colorwork might look a bit "fuzzy" and not as clear-edged as i'd like. has anyone ever done any colorwork with this yarn and would like to help?

the alternative would be to use drops nepal, but the website's yarn converter says i'd need double the amount of yarn if i make the swap - con anyone confirm if their tool is actually reliable?

thank you in advance to anyone helping!

Help what stitch is this?

Long story I’m helping someone out to finish a jersey for her granddaughter before her daughter dies. The whole family is joining in. I can knit but it’s been many years. I don’t want to tell her I made a mistake if I can fix it. When I picked it up she said it’s just plain knit. But after 2 rows my plain knit does not look like the rest of it. Picture attached. What are the stitches? You can see how my two rows of plain knit look different?? What can I do to fix?
