Question Does anyone have a problem with computer not waking from sleep?

This has been going on for about 2-3 weeks now. I'm on Fedora KDE, and if I put the computer from sleep, next time it wakes up, I get a black screen, and the RGB on my keyboard doesn't turn on. The fans spin and the computer is powered on, but nothing is happening.

I finally tried gnome just to see, and it worked fine there.

Is this some KDE issue then? Anyone else having issues with it lately?

I'm not home now, but I'll post a few journalctl logs when I can.

what happens if you fall back to the kernel driver?

'buntu based distros recently went thru a firmware issue with come AMD cards that caused what you are experiencing

what distro do you have.

I'm on Fedora.

I have the exact opposite problem, because of logitech and usb port shenanigans if i don't make very specific configurations the suspend is immediatly cancelled.

A while ago i had a similar issue like you but instead the pc would not turn off with rgb and fans still going, it was some amdgpu+kernel problem and i "fixed" it by switching to the mainline kernels. This is all on Kubuntu btw.

I recently made the switch to Linux after an SSD failure (on an all-AMD PC). Anyway, I wanted the latest stable KDE so I tried Fedora KDE, openSUSE and Kubuntu, but had wake-up failures on all of them.

I tried a bunch of stuff: different energy settings in KDE, BIOS and ACPI settings, updated just about everything to the latest firmware, turned off HDR, made a script to auto-dismount encrypted volumes, forced my SATA controller to keep my drives active, isolated my login screen to one display, made sure I had no "session-multiplier bug" in X11 and added AMD flags to the cmdline.

This went on for days, then I came to find out that a lot of people running the latest Linux kernels are having the same issue. So I installed Linux Mint (Cinnamon) with an older 6.14 kernel and have had no problems since. Everything worked out of the box without any issue.

It might be some specific kernel branches that are shit on a lot of hardware out there. It may also be Wayland. I still don't actually know what caused the problem, but I'm glad I don't have to deal with it anymore.

I had a long stretch where I thought the issue was resolved after a fresh Kubuntu install, but been having intermittent issues not waking from sleep for the past month or so.

I don't think this is a KDE but a Fedora issue. KDE on Kubuntu 26.04 works perfect.

U can’t say that if you don’t have the exact same hardware OP has

It's kde. I've seen this on more than one distro with nvidia gpus

This kind of thing varies by hardware.

I've seen that with my system, also. I'm pretty sure it's a linux / system software issue, not a KDE issue.

Wait, you guys get your machines to even sleep? Mine is like a toddler zooming at 2am from too much chocolate.

Sleep has worked nearly perfectly for me on both my desktop and laptop, and 2 other PCs used by my family.

In a weird coincidence, none of them have nvidia GPUs.

I have NVIDIA GPU. No issues with sleep. Plenty of other issues though... Not related to GPU.

I have a Nvidia gpu.. Where's that Torvalds middle finger when I need it.

I've had this problem too. I used to avoid leaving the computer unattended. I just shutdown and start again when i have to step away.

It's mostly to do with nvidia drivers. I don't have the time to trouble shoot.

Hmm...

K

Windows? Hyprland? (jus' askin' to see where you stopped)...

I'll post a few journalctl logs when I can.

I like that you have done things including slapping another DE on (which could have greatly meddled with your file associations) before bothering to ask with some system inf (or even get/post some logs)...

I didn't slap on another DE, i reinstalled the system completely with another DE.

OK....

But, since you did go to all that effort, you obviously kept the kernel logs relating to that successful hardware boot and init, along with the sleep, didn't you...

i don't put my computers to sleep.
i always poweroff them.

Can you test putting it to sleep this once? ;) See if it wakes up normally?
