Trade in question
Not only do I have the iPad mini seven to trade-in I also still have my iPad mini five. I looked on Apple‘s website and the combination of the two would be a 500 credit. Does that make it a no-brainer for me to get the iPad mini eight at $299? i’m looking at the 256 gb version with a regular screen.

If you want the iPad Mini 8 then yes, trading or selling your previous devices is a good idea. What is making it not a no brainer is the fact that you haven't really said why you want the iPad Mini 8. If you really want that OLED and other changes then go for it. If you don't know why you want it then save the 299 and keep on with your iPad Mini 7.

I’m assuming I’ll lose value on both my trade-ins if I wait until the iPad mini 9. I’m future-proofing myself a bit . I use my iPad mini a lot all day every day. I’d also like to have the 12 gigs of RAM for Siri when Siri gets its act together. But yes, I thought about that. Am I just throwing $299 away? Or saving myself $1000 later?

Trade in the Mini 5 for sure now to maximize trade in value, pocket the Apple GC for a later purchase or use it up for services like iCloud.
If your Mini 7 is still going strong: Invest the $300 in Apple stock, keep using the Mini 7, and when Apple releases the Mini 9, your gains and initial seed will pay for an even bigger chunk if not all of that iPad with Mini 7 trade in.
Or spend the $300 now (lease via Apple Financing to pay like $4 a month) if you really want OLED now. But bear in mind you’ll drop an extra $100 today for a new case plus taxes.
