Question Nano-Texture Option

I use my iPad mini 5 mostly to read. Emails and the web, but also books and scripts.

Watch movies and TV on it as well when I’m traveling.

Upgrading to the 8. Will the nano-texture option be good for me? Is it helpful for long reading sessions?

Are there any downsides (beyond the extra $100)?

Yeah, I see this as the main downside, too. I would use the $100 towards going for the higher storage option and try a matte screen protector. They’ve improved in quality a lot and, while I don’t have any Apple devices with “nano texture” (and likely never will) I am very happy with the texture and look of the screen protectors I’m using on both my phone and iPad mini. The biggest advantage is that if (when) I get scratches or damage them, I can just swap them out for a new one and my device is as good as new. It’s funny to me that before the consensus was that matte screens were less preferable, and then Apple decides to make the change and everyone’s opinions coincidentally change at the same time.

For me it’s actually more needed if you use the iPad outside. I use a matte screen protector on mine. It works fine but does kill the display a bit. I honestly haven’t seen a nano texture in person so I’m going off more matte screen protectors.

i use my mini for work, primarily at full brightness and often in direct sunlight, so will be going for the nano texture.

incidentally, the lack of a matte screen was the main reason i wasn’t interested in it as an e-reader but with that and pencil pro now i’m thinking it’ll be a great travel companion when i want to leave a 600 page history at home.

Scratches easier, harder to clean and you shouldn’t put screen protectors. Too many downsides imo

Losing quality and requiring more maintenance to keep the screen clear, Are the downsides. If you’re someone who primarily uses their mini in the house it’s not worth it. But if you’re someone who uses it a least 50% out the house, then I’d say it’s worth it.
