Advice Our cat has to wear a cone for 10 days, but she really wants to go outside

My mom and I started feeding these cats who were outside. Well after a really heavy rain, we let them into our building to get out of the rain. We have continued to feed them, and we now let them into our apartment. Our apartment is quite small though (we are trying to buy a house and keep them permanently indoors), so we still let them go outside (we really don't like doing this though). On Saturday night when one came back in she had a wound on her arm. We took her to the vet the next day (vet wasn't open Saturday night), and they treated her wound. She has to be given antibacterial medicine and wear a cone for 10 days, therefore she must stay inside for ten days. She has been so frustrated with staying inside. She wants to go outside so badly. Her cries are so heartbreaking. She is trying so badly to get out. We are trying to keep her distracted. My cat who passed away in 2019 liked being inside only, but taking a cat who is used to the outdoors to being in a tiny apartment for at least ten days is tough. Does anyone have any advice on what to do? Thank you.

BBC: "Beloved cats need more protection from drivers'"

I got recommended this article from the BBC today. While I agree that should a driver hurt a cat, at the very least, they should report the incident.. I can't help feeling that the best way to keep their beloved pets safe would be keeping them inside!

I know the culture in the UK is different, but as someone who lost so many "indoor-outdoor" cats growing up, the solution feels obvious. my first indoor only cat is now 16.5 years old and the cats before him were lucky if they made it to 5!

Advice Litter box help!

Hi! I’m moving out for the first time and I have a 2 year old boy, and my roomate does aswell. I usually keep my boys litter box in the laundry room to avoid smell from the main house. In our new place the laundry is in a small closet within the only and very tiny shared bathroom. I scoop his litter daily but there’s always that litter smell (not poop smell) that i despise but live with because i love him. I’ve been exploring the option of getting a furniture piece litter box and keeping it in my bedroom. (also he’s a special boy and can’t figure out door flaps on enclosed litter boxes.) any recommendations to keep him happy but also keep the smell to the minimum wether it be ‘hidden’ furniture litter boxes you’ve used, certain litter, etc. I currently use recycled walnut litter. Thank you guys for all your help!

Advice Is 190kcals NOT normal for a 9lb cat?

I was told 190 was the recommended kcals when I brought my white one in for a vet visit awhile back because I was switching him to adult food. Vet said 190. I got curious about a food and it being SO high in kcals for the guidelines (3 cans for a 8lb equaling 240 calories). Apparently I'm massively underfeeding. He's indoor only. I was told 190 so I've been feeding 190. Yeah he was thin for awhile but he suddenly gained weight eating 190. (Fixed the reason it happened) Now idk if I need to increase. I was told 190 was the average and what I needed to feed by one of the vets.

Advice Redirected aggression help?

My boyfriend and I have two cats, brothers from the same litter, that we raised since they were born. They love each other, cuddle all the time, and play together. They’re about 3 years old.

We are on vacation right now and have my family watching our cats, checking on them three times daily. This morning, my mom sent me a video of the cats with the caption “what is with this fight?” The video shows our one cat, Craig, sitting on the ottoman, making a yowl-like meow. And his brother, Doug, is on the cat tower, maybe 5 feet away, hissing at him. This is completely abnormal for them. The only time Doug hisses at Craig is when Craig gets home from the vet or groomer.

I called my mom because we are both concerned. I asked if anything odd had happened. She said yeah, the main front door was left open overnight, only the storm door (that doesn’t close all the way and has a big gap between the ground and the bottom of the door) was left closed. We have outdoor cats that come onto our porch and she says they got into a fight through the door. I’m not sure if she has proof of that or just assumed it happened but I’m sure that it happened.

Obviously, we are very nervous. We know about redirected aggression and thus have done everything we can to keep our cats from interacting with the outdoor cats. This would be their first interaction. It sounds like the door was left open all night from the last visit last night around 10PM until this morning around 9AM.

My dad is going to check on the cats next in a few hours. I told him that if the cats are showing signs of aggression towards eachother or anything that they need to be separated.

My boyfriend and I get home from our trip tomorrow, so we will have better control over the situation then. I’m wondering if anyone has any tips on how we can deal with this, mitigate the issue as much as possible, and hopefully get the cats back to normal as quickly as possible?

I don’t even want to consider that we might have to rehome one of the cats. We would be devastated.

Also, we already have let everyone who is checking on the cats know, that it is of utmost importance to make sure the front door is completely closed and locked when leaving. (Hell, even if we didn’t have cats, we don’t live in the nicest area. Our cats have been broken into on the street in front of our house, I’m sure someone would break into the house if the door was left open and we weren’t home. But that’s besides the point).

Keeping outdoor cat inside at night

Hi guys, I already made a post a couple weeks ago on other cat subs about this but just wanted to discuss it again. My Bonnie is 8 1/2 and is my world. My family made the decision that she was going to be an outdoor cat when she was a kitten without really knowing the risks of outdoor cats as far as I know, and this year I’ve been doing more research on the risks of letting cats out unsupervised, so I’ve been trying to put in safety measures for her, and the first step for me is at least keeping her inside at night. The issue is the only other person who lives with me is my dad, who is completely against keeping her inside at all, a lot because the cat flap is in his room and therefore if she doesn’t get to go out she will whine and scratch at his door and wake him up. It’s very hard to keep her stimulated since she doesn’t really like toys. I’ve been trying to encourage her to go out more during the day so she hopefully has less energy at night, but my dad isn’t keeping this up much. We just had an argument because he is insisting I keep her in my room at night but I am trying to not make this emotionally distressing for her by trapping her in one room (especially because my room is messy af and I worry about there being lots of cat hazards). I feel terrible trapping her in one room on her own but unfortunately that’s the only option my dad is giving me since if she roams around she will just scratch at his door, the only other option is letting her outside at night which I am not budging on. I am literally writing this at 10:53pm as she’s meowing at the bedroom door and I’m supposed to be up at 6:15am 😭 does anyone have any ideas? I don’t know what to do. I feel so mean as she’s just meowing at the door, but I want to keep my baby safe. If it were up to me she would just roam around the house at night but, like I said, my dad doesn’t want that because she will wake him up (which is fair but idk what else to do)

how to stop single kitten syndrome

Post image
58 Upvotes

Okay so ever since i found out what single kitten syndrome is, everything kinda clicked. My cat has that. I DID try the advices given by people in my previous post (thank you, by the way) and one time i extended my finger gently in front of her, then she bit me. she also did bite my younger brother badly and it was totally unprompted.

I've proposed to bring another cat over for a bit for her to understand cat cues because ive hissed at her, and it really doesnt affect her biting. she's a repeat offender no matter the hissing. I love this cat but she's been hurting me and my brother because of her biting, so...any advice?

Can I let me cat in the balcony

I have a small fifth floor apartment and I want my kitten to be able to walk freely on our balcony and get some fresh air. It does have a net along the entire opening, but there is a small gap at the bottom where the net meets the concrete so it wouldn’t stop him from jumping off. It is quite narrow, but I’m still worried. Obviously, I would only let him on the balcony when I’m home, but if I just wanna leave my door open and let him room freely is that a bad idea?

Advice Girl is tired of being cooped up in the room. Her spay got delayed due to her going into her first heat idk what to do.

The other reddits act like I'm cruel for using a dog diaper to give her some time to wander the house(only left it on for an hour and removed it taking her back to the room). The boys didn't even try anything but it's her first one and I DON'T want her pregnant. I had her scheduled and she went into heat before the appointment so it's been postponed.

Idk what else I can do. It was the only idea I have. She's trying to tear my room apart randomly trying to get out the door. We are moving so I'm overwhelmed with that and she's overwhelmed being contained to a single room. One of the males is fixed. The other is scheduled for a neuter next month. Everyone is fixing their cats rn basically so it's SUPER hard to get a spot.

Do y'all have any ideas? The boys mostly leave her alone(only playing never anything else) but I still wanna be careful.

"Mice are experts at hiding. I must find!" -Phoenix (Translated Via meows; had zero idea what she said, so just bear with me)

My cat, Phoenix (Almost 2 years old, female, tortoise-back cat), was THIS CLOSE 🤏🏽 to catching a mouse in my garage. She's an indoor cat, so I let her into the garage to have some "Outdoor" freedom, and she LOVES it. And don't worry, I check how cold/hot it is in the Garage before I let her in. (Warm? "Go on in! Have fun!" Hot? "Maybe in a bit; let's let it cool down first, okay?" Coldish? "I'll let you in and check in on you in 30 minutes; have fun!" Freezing? "Maybe tomorrow; I don't want you to get sick.") Anyway, I let her in earlier and set a 30-minute timer to check in. I went in 30 minutes later, and she was staring at my Lawn mower. Me being me, I lifted it up to see what was underneath. Nothing was under there until I saw Phoenix come out with a little mouse-like shrew in her mouth. I got so excited (It was going to be the FIRST catch of her life), but then she dropped it. She gave chase and caught it five times, then we lost it. We looked for it for 15 minutes, then gave up. Still, it was the thrill of her life :) (I'm actually Allergic to Small rodent bites, e.g., mice, rats, shrews, ect..)
