History What do you think about korean Queen Heo Hwang-ok’s origins?

I recently came across the story of Queen Heo Hwang-ok, who is said to have travelled to Korea around 48 CE and married King Kim Suro.

Personally, I find the theory that she came from Ayuta Nadu, associated by some researchers with the ancient Pandya kingdom in South India, interesting. Also found many similarities between korea and tamil as well. However, I've also come across other theories linking her origins to Ayodhya in North India and Thailand.

I'm curious how our indians view this story today. Is there any historical evidence supporting these theories, or is her origin still considered a mystery?

Health Is Delhi’s pollution really this bad, or am I just sensitive to it?

Hey guys, I’m from the mountains of Uttarakhand, and I’ve noticed something weird over the last 3 years. I’ve visited Delhi three times during winter, mostly just passing through ISBT Anand Vihar, and every time my nose starts hurting badly because of the smell. I end up with a cold and sore throat afterwards.

I’m used to cold weather, having grown up in the mountains, but this happens every time when I'm in that anand vihar bus station. My friends who are from Delhi itself doesn't seem to experience the same thing. Could it be pollution, and why does it affect me more?

I’m a recent graduate and might have to move to cities like Delhi for work, so honestly, it’s concerning. Has anyone experienced something similar, and how do you deal with it?

And seriously, to the people living in delhi, how do you even manage this? diwali hasn’t even arrived yet, and the smell was already so awful. i was there for just 4 hours last night, and my nose got blocked, my throat was burning, and i was even struggling to breathe through my mouth because of that horrible gutter-like smell.

today, after coming back home and taking an afternoon nap, i felt completely fine again. it honestly makes me sad thinking about people who have to live with this every day. nobody deserves to breathe air like this. i feel lucky to live in the mountains, but not everyone has that privilege.

idk what the solution is or how things will ever get better, but i genuinely hope they do.

People Can't rent a 2BHK as an unmarried couple. Getting tired of this

• Upvotes

Me and my partner are trying to rent a 2BHK in Hyderabad from November. We've been at it for weeks.

Every conversation goes the same way. Are you married? No? Sorry, family only. One owner asked for our marriage certificate. Multiple brokers have straight up told us to just lie and say we're married, like that's a normal way to start living somewhere.

What gets me is I did everything I was supposed to. Tier 1 college, worked hard, and I'm paid really well this early in my career. She works too. We'll pay on time and look after the place better than most. We just want a decent gated society near Financial District/Gachibowli in Hyderabad. None of that matters because we don't have a piece of paper.

We keep calling this city a global tech hub and talking about becoming a developed country, but we still decide who gets a house based on marital status. It's honestly sad.

If you're an owner in a good society (Avatar, Zenon, Prestige etc.) and genuinely fine with unmarried tenants, please DM. And couples who've been through this, how did you find a place?

Policy/Economy 30,000 Agniveers with combat experience will be released from duty this December.

These trained and experienced combat veterans will be looking for jobs and opportunities, this is just the first batch. Given the condition of the jobs market and pay scales Criminal gangs will be recruiting a lot of these people.

This happened in Iraq also. When saddams army was dismantled ISIS was born. Idle hands are the devils playground, every year from this dec if we have 30k trained soldiers/killers on the lose in indian streets without jobs and housing and insurance etc will be a recipie for disaster. Your avg bajrang dal and RSS goons are about to get a serious upgrade.

Travel Any of you ever been to Guwahati? (I’m not from India but that’s the only part of India I’v been to)

Good afternoon,
When I was 19 I traveled from Europe to India for about £200. Why so cheap? There was an Indian airline that needed a few seats filled for a London-New Delhi flight. Now I thought it was London to New Delhi but it was actually to Guwahati but stopped in Delhi and some people got off and they refilled the plane and then continued to Guwahati.

I’m not Indian, I have no ancestral connection to India or Guwahti or Assam or any ethnic group there (I’m Irish). But at 19 I wanted to travel a bit and had some money saved and figured, India seems pretty cool, I like tikka masala (i actually wouldn’t find out that’s technically British food until later). I was only in India for 10 days and every day was me just walking around Guwahati.

And this was a stupid thing to do in my opinion because like… I had no idea what the conditions were like, the language or if I’d stick out (I did lol) if robbery was common or anything like that. I remember.

Guwahati honestly felt safer than East London lol. I had an amazing time and it left me with a very positive opinion of India that I still hold to this day. For some reason my dumbass thought the people there would speak Bengali (when I checked a map I was like…. Oh we’re near Bangladesh) and I had that downloaded on my Google translate and it wasn’t until I met a restaurant owner that knew like 5 languages that people here speak Assamese, and then Hindi and then English and then SOME speak Bengali.

There were other foreigners in the city and when I visited Kamakhya Temple but because I did no planning at all, my hotel was just in a random industrial part of the city and I had to walk like 30 min to get to a place to get a taxi.

It was a lovely time. I know India is extremely diverse and there’s a north / south division but what do Indians generally think of the Assamese?

Non Political Newly built Gurgaon road already shedding stones - is this normal or corruption?

This is a main road in Gurgaon which was resurfaced just over a week ago.

I was walking today and noticed these tiny black stones coming off the road everywhere. You can literally pick them up with your hands. I was honestly amazed at how bad the road looks already, considering its barely a week old!

Now I am genuinely curious - is this normal in road construction? Is there some engineering logic behind this or is this just another example of poor quality work and corruption?

Also, does anyone know where we can report this or raise a complaint about road quality in Gurgaon? And does anyone actually check the quality of roads after contractors finish the work?

Would love to hear from anyone who knows how this works.
