That raspy, trumpet-blowing sound in the beginning is killing me! 🤣

I’ve created a troubleshooting tool that walks you through determining if a hummingbird needs your help, and if it does, basic first aid you can provide so that you have time to get the hummingbird to your nearest wildlife center or hummingbird rehabilitator. It is on my mentor’s website, IFoundAHummingbird.com
At the end of nearly every process, there is a list of resources including hummingbird rehabilitators and wildlife centers that either take hummingbirds or will connect you with someone who does.
It covers the most common issues we are called about.
Hummingbirds trapped indoors
Cat Caught
Window Strikes
Sitting at Feeders Too Long
Stuck To A Glue Trap/Sticky or Oily Substance On Feathers
Abandoned Nests or Babies

I captured this little male Costa’s hummingbird hovering beside my marigolds, and with Día de los Muertos approaching, I couldn’t help but appreciate the symbolism of this moment. I’m not Mexican, but I appreciate the lore and symbolism. And who didn’t love the movie Coco?! Hehe. 🙃
In Mexican tradition, marigolds (cempasúchil) are believed to guide the spirits of departed loved ones home with their vibrant colors and fragrance. Hummingbirds also hold deep spiritual significance in ancient Mexica beliefs, where they were associated with the sun, the afterlife, and the souls of certain departed individuals returning to the earth.
Seeing these two symbols together felt especially meaningful. The marigolds representing the path between the living and the dead, and the hummingbird evoking the possibility of a soul returning for a fleeting visit.
Of course, he was probably just checking out the flowers. But there’s something beautiful about the idea that the marigolds light the way home, and the hummingbird
represents a love that never truly leaves us. I think that’s why a lot of people see hummingbirds as angels, too.
Some souls return not in footsteps, but on wings. 🧡

Was just trying to send a picture of my cat sitting on his perch to my husband and instead got this perfectly timed picture. The kitty loves sitting on the balcony and sleeping while the hummers buzz around him, and will always blink at them when they come to check him out so I was glad to get a picture of these two friends ❤️❤️

I’m located in Southern California and have noticed some possibly distressing hummingbird activity. I’m looking for an expert or someone who just understands this species better than I do. In my backyard we found a dead hummingbird on the ground this month.
Few weeks ago saw a hummingbird in broad daylight looking “drunk” because it was flying into a cement wall again and again— it was trying to fly over the wall but kept hitting the wall until it flew high enough to go over it.
Tonight at around 930pm (dark) we noticed a hummingbird feeding or flying around a bush at night. It’s confirmed it’s a hummingbird as we had a direct flashlight on it.
I’m not sure what the cause of this is. We live in a suburban area. There are streetlights but otherwise our backyard is pretty dark. We don’t have a hummingbird feeder— not sure if neighbors do. We live in zone 10a/b. Any thoughts? Pesticide? Something else?

This was so emotional I can’t even believe this happened, I’ve been getting closer to them lately and they finally took a sip from my hand, so adorable!

I have two regular feeders that are glass bottles with the bottom plastic saucer with metal on top. Realized the metal part on both is rusting. So then I got a purely plastic hummzinger saucer which is the solution to the rust. But I live in Arizona and there’s these northern flicker birds that jump on it and literally tilt it so much with their weight that the sugar water drips all over the ground. So now I have an ant problem.
Basically what feeder will be rust proof AND leak proof to withstand northern flickers hanging on it? 😭
Also I can’t believe how many feeders out there are made with easily rusting metals?!

I failed with the sharpness but I'll try again tomorrow. Anyway, here I have all hummingbirds of my zone.

Best pic I could get through my kitchen window. What appears to be a Broad Billed Hummingbird has been hanging around Orem Utah for the past week or so. Seeing as how these guys normally don’t venture further north than Arizona I have no idea why he’s been sticking around, especially since our nighttime temperatures have dropped to the 40s.

I took a picture of our empty feeders today. I can’t figure out why we don’t have our Cardinals and hummingbirds today
Yes, I took this picture myself this morning

hard to tell, but I had to have two trees cut down in front of my house. I’ve lived here for 5 years and have loved watching the hummingbirds retreat to these trees after eating from my feeders. I’m so worried they won’t return next season as their home has been removed. I’ve actually been quite devastated thinking about it. Anyone have a similar experience or advice to give on encouraging them to come back? There’s lots of other trees around I’m just now sure how picky they are about where they’ll live. TIA!
Also please ignore the doggie nose prints on the window I’ve given up trying to keep them away

Been about 10 days and no more hummingbird. I think this is it for me till next April or so. I just replaced the nectar again but kinda sad cause I know they are gone and I will do this thru the off season and cooler weather but I always have hope one is running late or local.
