I've been building a hockey simulator that uses a real stick and puck in VR and on TV

Hey guys! I've been knee-deep in developing what I believe is the world's first hockey passing/shooting simulator that works in both VR and on your TV.

It's been a massive personal project, and I've put everything I have into making it. The idea is to make hockey training feel like playing a video game while actually improving your skills.

You can check out what I've built at Dangleverse.com.

Would genuinely love to hear what other hockey players think! What games would you like to see?

Freshman trying out for Varsity as a newbie Left D… genuinely terrified. Do I actually have a shot?

Hey guys, I just went to our high school varsity interest meeting today and honestly I'm terrified.
This is my first actual year playing hockey (last year in 8th grade I wasn’t even allowed to try out lol). I walked in today and everyone was wearing all their travel hockey gear and looking so good.
Our team runs 3 lines, so probably around 6 D-men total. The team had 8 juniors right now who will all be seniors this year, so a huge chunk is graduating after this season. As for freshmen trying out, there are two AA players and three C-level players. I play Left D.
My skating isn't fast at all and my skills are super basic. I'm scared I'm gonna mess up during drills, or that the coach will just move a good AA forward to play D instead of keeping a newbie like me.
My plan is basically just to play super simple: hold my position, protect the net, throw the puck up the boards to my wings, and work my butt off on backchecks.
Be totally honest with me, does a complete newbie freshman actually have a realistic chance at making 3rd D-pair or extra D? What else can a slower, basic defenseman do during tryouts to not look completely lost?
Appreciate any advice, thanks!

(Also, varsity is the only level we have at school since ig there aren’t much girls who play hockey)

Medium helmet + XS cage?

Post image

My seven year old is starting hockey and he has a particularly large head, which gives him a small face in comparison. I have no experience in this arena so I need some help.

We spent an hour trying on helmets in store but nothing quite worked. The employee was super helpful and knowledgeable and I genuinely learned a lot from him, he was trying his absolute best to accommodate us.

So i ended up going online and I ordered this specific bauer combination. Sources are somewhat mixed so I need help understanding if I should be attaching these pieces of equipment that are two sizes apart.

Is this safe (assuming it fits)?
Will it work?

Never give up on you, no matter what!

Another you’re on the Earth brings me to age 63, never much thought about age and the changes it brings. Movement gate has changed., although I feel the same inside, looking in the mirror is a true reflection of the 63 years on earth.
I have three grandchildren two years ago I skated at the long track for speed skating in Salt Lake City, Utah. I was skating with my two granddaughters., enjoying every moment of it. They were both real new to skating, taking baby steps, unsure of what to expect.. well I was there on the short track inside the oval team speed, skating teams USA, Japan, and Korea. We’re practicing on the short track.
It was so amazing watching the skilled fluent skaters lap, the track their crossover seamless their speed looked effortless. Those are the times when you just want more of skating that is. You want to feel what they’re feeling and glide like they’re gliding..
So this year, I decided that I wanted to get better, not be the shaky leg granddad on skates with their grandchildren. I want to control I want to speed I wanted to guide I want the effortless feel of just enjoying being on skates.. after almost 5 weeks of land exercises and preparation my first date wasn’t what I had expected. I thought for sure I would get on the ice and just own the moment not being the shaky leg granddad.! well it didn’t work out that way and I was to shake it day old granddad I had feared.
After much frustration and going over it in my head over and over again, the feeling of no balance.
I decided to double down and make this happen, I’ve added some land agility movements like crossing over standing on 1 foot balancing with the other knee bent up. I have to say when I started I had zero ability to balance at all. No wonder when on a slim skate plate I might feel that same way.
I skated for the second time yesterday, more mentally prepared I had my helmet and determination. I drilled crossovers left side then right side. in the center of the ice using the face off circle.. It is just the beginning of me being an improved skater., you know you could just easily walk away from a situation. Never give up on yourself!

Baking Skates with or without orthotics inserted?

Hi! I just got some new skates and I also bought some Bauer insoles to throw in there to help with my arch support. My question is basically should I bake them with the insoles in or bake them without them in? Don't want to screw up the skates. Thanks!

CCM vizion skate vs Hyp 2/Flylite

I'm coming from a Bauer Hyperlite 2 in a size 9, Fit 2, and I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Vizion. I tried an 8.5 regular in store and it felt a little tight, so a 9 is probably the play. For those who've switched from Bauer, how did the Vizion feel compared to the Hyperlite 2 or the Flylite?

Shin/pant fitting??

Hi, new player here. Trying to figure out which part is the wrong size, if not both. I was fit by a pure hockey staff member piece by piece, and bought at a second-hand and resale sports store, but something’s not quite right with these two imo. Pants are sliding up too far at the knee pad, then getting tucked behind/stuck. Shin guards are 13”, pants are bauer intermediate medium. Shin pads are sitting correctly on the knees and hitting the correct ankle height. Send help please and thank you lmao

Edit: solution: wear all your gear before questioning sizes 👍👍 will be getting hockey socks tomorrow

Hey guys, just got a Fitbit Air and hoping to use it to track when I play in men’s league a few times a week. Does anyone have any insight on how well it works? Or the best way to start a workout before getting on the ice?

Hockey Stick Advice for My 8-Year-Old – 10 or 20 Flex?

Hey everyone! Looking for some advice on choosing the right stick flex for my kid.

My son is 8 years old, 127 cm (4'2") tall, and weighs about 25 kg (55 lbs). He's been playing hockey for one year and is currently using a CCM stick with a 30 flex.

He's not a particularly powerful kid, and I've noticed that he struggles to lift the puck consistently with his wrist shots. Sometimes he can do it, but other times he can't. I'm wondering if the 30 flex is just too stiff for him.

I've been looking at sticks with a 10 or 20 flex, but here's my dilemma:

  • 10 flex (often 42" long) – The length is just right for his height, but I'm worried it might be too soft.
  • 20 flex (often 46" long) – The flex seems like a better option, but the stick is too long for him. I'd probably need to cut about 2 inches off, which I understand would make it feel stiffer.

So now I'm wondering, if I cut 2 inches off a 20 flex stick, would it end up feeling closer to a 30 flex? Would that defeat the whole purpose of switching from his current stick?

Would you go with the 10 flex, cut down the 20 flex, or just keep the 30 flex and work on his shooting technique? Thanks!

Skating Mechanics and Profile

I got new skates about a year ago and had to move up a half size. I am coming from Bauer 3Xpro skates size 9 fit 2 (280mm holder) and I am now using custom Hyperlite 2 skates size 9.75 EA width (288mm holder). My previous steel was profiled using the elite edge profile machine and was an SCS-1 0 pitch. I am using the exact same profile on my new skates and it feels 90% OK. Not sure if its from the extra 8mm of steel or changing from the TUUK Lightspeed edge holder to the “new” Bauer Powerfly system. I was contemplating increasing the pitch profile to P1 or possibly P2 on the SCS-1 profile. My only issue with the new skate setup is crossing over more specifically the cross under mechanic portion using my outside edge and generating additional speed. I find that if I really try to push through with the cross under leg I tend to roll my weight backwards on the blade and end up sitting more upright through the exit of the crossover. If anyone has any suggestions I am open to solutions.
