Bow handle + mount repair

Hello friends.

Seeking guidance for a pa14 with one objective bow mount.

The handle bolt was stuck in the hulls brass insert. The insert just spun.

I couldn't reach the rotomolded cavity for the insert from inside so I twisted the handle to expose the insert. From there a 13mm wrench allowed me to remove the bolt.

Repair choices:

  1. Remove the insert and replace with a wellnut.

  2. Heat and reinsert the brass insert. Plastic weld as necessary.

  3. Replace both handle bolts with a phillips plus nut solution. Possible a backing plate inside?

  4. Other?

hobie outback loading with decked drawers

I bought a 2020 hobie outback and trying to figure out how to properly and safely load on top of my decked drawer system. I figured out how to safely tie it down by placing a cooler on top of the open tailgate and leveling out the kayak. Loading it is the issue by myself. I can easily get the nose of the kayak onto my tailgate but the angle of the kayak on the wheels does not allow for me to lift it onto the decked system. I tried earlier and the rudder guard popped off and it fell on the rudder. the nose of the kayak just directly runs into halfway up the decked system even with the rudder protector dragging on the ground. Anyone with similar setups/solutions? Just learning this stuff so i’d appreciate any help. Thanks!

Going to check this out next Saturday. 2018 PA12 lightly used for $1750. Am I missing something?

Seller claims it’s in great condition. Sent me a photo of a mini shed he used to store it. $1,750 seems too good to be true. Said it’s only got 60hrs on it as he is older. Am I missing something here?

Compass seat for a Tandem Island?

Post image
3 Upvotes

i have read and watched a bit on seat replacements for a 2014 Tandem Island. I really want to go as close to the original Vantage seats as possible. I noticed that Compass seats seem to be more plentiful, do they fit without a huge amount of modification? Any other recommendations that don't result in the seat going to much up (and then I have to modify the mainsheet with a riser)?

Settled on price, meeting next week to inspect in-person and buy used, 2021 Outback

Hi all! I’m elevating my Dungeness crabbing game and moving from shore to water. After researching different brands and models I have my mind set on this 2021 Hobie Outback. The specs meet about all my needs with my use. “Buy once, cry once,” is my general outlook on quality product.

We agreed on $2,000 and I’m meeting next week to inspect and hopefully drive home with a new rig in tow.

Is this a fair deal? Do you see anything concerning? What should I be paying close attention to, condition wise, in person before handing over the money? Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Trax plug-in cart for new Hobie?

Hi All,

Got a new Hobie in July and it's been great! Only thing is, I can't seem to get one of those plug in carts (the kind with the gray cushy wheels). I ordered one with the kayak but my local dealer says they are in short supply (or no supply) since Hobie moved its production line or something!?! I've looked all over the internet and told myself I'd drive hundreds of miles if someone could hook me up with wheels for muh baby! I'd really like to be able to unload in the parking lot and wheel down to the H20, but right now I hafta unload on the boat ramp right by the water (I'm kinda sort & that grade can be a problem for me) or pay someone a beer to help me carry. Does anyone know when Trax carts might be available again!?!

This is my first kayak. Bought off of Facebook Marketplace for $500. Looks to be patched up at some point and has a slow leak. How worried should I be?

Vantage CT Options: 2017 Outback

Hello, Looking for replacement seat options for a 2017 outback. I know the CTW is too wide in stock configuration, but is it possible to modify it to be compatible? Having a hard time finding a CT seat. Any aftermarket seats that can be customized to fit?

(Help) Hobie mirage compass duo (pedal slid off)

This model has the pop rivet to hold on the pedal and had it break off on the water… on a particularly windy day. Fun. Any recommendations on how to fix or where to source a new pedal arm? Already tried to drill and tap and that didn’t go well.

2021 Hobie Outback Gear Track Problem

Hello I wanted to ask if anyone has encountered the issue with the bungee cords on the gear track not retracting anymore? The first picture is how they should look and the second is the issue I’m having. Upon pulling the cord, it’ll come out but not retract back to its original position how it used to. If anyone has fixed this or has some advice it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Chinese knockoff Pedal Drive

Has anyone tried one of the knock drives from Alibaba? Seems like it's worth a try since it's 1/10 of the price of the Hobie Kickup Drive. Thanks in advance

I read a lot before I got one that pa14’s aren’t really suited for ocean. I’d have to disagree. I’ve been out in decent swell and wind and never felt uncomfortable.

Turbo fins fell apart and failed me today on Puget Sound - common problem, I know. Any advice welcome.

I was out pedaling on Puget Sound on my 12-15 year old Revolution 13 with an older mirage drive - I inherited this craft for free from a couple who hadn't used it in years. This was my 12th trip or so over last 2-3 years. Existing turbo fins suddenly went ' clink, clank, and Kachunk' under the boat and I poof - I had no power. I pulled the drive and saw the problem immediately (see attached pics). I had an extra drive with regular fins on shore, and used that for the rest of the paddle, no problem. Now, I understand this fatigue and rip and fail is a common problem , this kind of stress-point accumulation and eventual failure. Question: is there a test I can do to determine if the other (used) Turbo fins or regular fins I happen to own are good, ie aren't going to fail me in this same way ? This beautiful Hobie Revolution was given to me for free, so I'm happy to buy *new* fins which aren't fatigued, If that is necessary, so this doesn't happen again. I also bought a whole set of used fins, a dozen, from a local dealer - maybe some of these are good ? How can you tell ? Grab with 2 vice grips at the base and do a twist and tear test? Any advice welcome.
