This might be a bug or it might mean that someone else has access to your account and is deleting your messages.
You should change your account password and then go here to check your account activity. Use the option to log out of all other sessions.

I appreciate your support thanks,
I think it’s a bug but Idk how to report it, because I already changed the password before also enabled the passkey and 2fa and the issue still exists.
I tried using the link u just provided and logged out of all other sessions hopefully it will work

Sounds like you covered all the bases now for a security issue.

There has been a bug of chat messages disappearing. One of my chats had an extensive chunk of time missing, but after a couple of months it's back. Occasionally chunks briefly disappear but only for minutes to hours. But for me, & other users with the issue, both sides of the chat are missing. So I don't know if it's the same bug. Other users said the chats looked normal logged in via a browser.
Check how the chat looks logged in via browser. If the messages are missing there, then I think you are back to a hacker messing with your account or there's a more fundamental problem with the account.
If all the expected contents are visible in the chat via browser, try uninstalling the app, power cycle the phone, & reinstalling the app.
Change the password on any linked email accounts & recovery accounts for them.
Check:
Unfortunately 2FA isn't foolproof.

To help prevent your messages from disappearing in a chat, you can enable persistent messaging. This feature ensures that messages in direct chats cannot be deleted by either person once it's turned on.
To turn on Persistent Messaging on iOS:
-
Go to any direct chat.
-
Tap the Inbox icon at the bottom of the screen.
-
Select the Chats tab.
-
Tap the overflow menu (three dots icon) to open your settings.
-
Toggle Persistent Messaging ON.
Once enabled, messages sent during this time will remain undeletable, even if the feature is later turned off.
