Budget and location - The important part. Since I'm in Brazil, electronics are heavily taxed. Looking for something ideally below 150 USD. I should still be able to afford anything below 200 USD
Source/Amp - Looking to plug the headphones with a p2 jack. I have a general distrust of wireless and USB connections for headphones, but feel free to call me a moron if it actually doesn't matter and I've been worrying about nothing.
How the gear will be used - For home use only, not looking to stuff it into a backpack. The primary purpose of the headphones would be for gaming and music, video editing as a secondary concern. On the gaming side, there's the "3D spatial audio" thing that I don't understand much about, but out of the box most professional and audiophile headphones don't seem to come with this.
Preferred tonal balance - Not entirely sure about this, since my experience has been mostly with cheaper "gaming"-branded headsets. Anything that makes music sound nice. Will get into detail of what I'm looking for below.
Preferred music genres - Contemporary orchestral music, mostly game and film soundtracks; J-pop and J-rock.
Past gear experience - I've been using an HS60 from Corsair for a long time. It comes with a jack connector and the mic can be detached. I found it extremely comfortable to wear for 5+ hours at a time, and I actually like the sound on it (not an audiophile so I can't really tell if it's got good quality or not).
My main problem with the HS60 is that the hinge broke, and no amount of glue and tape has been able to keep it from snapping again. I'm looking for something with similar or better audio quality, similar tonal balance, and better structural integrity.
So far the better options I've found were:
- Audio Technica ATH-M30x. M40x and 50x started to get expensive, still worried about plastic stuff breaking after 2-3 years
- Corsair HS65 Surround, most similar to what I have, aluminum hinges, much cheaper than the others
- Sony MDR 7506 seems very robust, but uncomfortable and audio seems hard to configure and get used to
- EDIT: Sennheiser 560s. Did some more research after posting, and while a little above budget, these seem close to what I'm looking for. Worried about structural durability though. Let me know if you've had them for a while and how they held up.
Please give me some recommendations for headphones that could replace the Corsair HS60. I've seen the PC38x recommended quite a bit, but it's priced above what I can afford. Despite using the open back flair, if you have a closed back headset you'd recommend I'll look into it as well.
