25th Anniversary of the "Band of Brothers"

25 years of this gem, and what a series it is! Still relevant, still emotional, and still hammering!

Watched “Band of Brothers: Legacy” yesterday afternoon, then binge-watched the entire 10-part series. And it was more riveting and devastating than my last rewatch. Guess age makes you see things differently and gives you the wisdom to understand how wars affect most commoners and those facing the heat on the ground or in the air.

The retrospective documentary makes us familiar with interesting aspects. I loved the account of the real-life heroes, from Winters and Nic to the Bull, Guarnere, and others. It’s clear to see why and how these men bond so tight. The world may call the Easy Company “men” brave, but the reality remains that many were just teens, and yet they showed exemplary courage.

The storytelling, the camerawork, the images, and the actors are so f$%^ing good that you feel you’re witnessing all the action standing right beside them. The raw fear of Blithe, the mangled and injured bodies of soldiers, the silent long gaze of Winters, the malnourished bodies of the Holocaust survivors….they all come together to give you an unmatched cinematic experience.

Didn’t know the Band of Brothers premiered on 9/9, just two days before 9/11. And they decided to keep airing the episodes, as they thought the story needed to be told, and the account of E Company was like a warm hug for parents and everyone else doing their jobs despite the devastating attacks.

I feel sad that they don’t make shows like these anymore.

WAR 1x04 How much does she deserve? Spoiler

Does Carla really deserves 310 million pounds?

I really dont understand woman entitlement of their husbands success and money. I mean taking 40 million as an insult is crazy. I can understand if it was a similar case like Amazon where they worked on the company together from the beginning or she financed the start of the company or at least she stayed at home for him go to work.

None of these things happened. On top that she sent a honey trap to him. So she is also morally on the wrong.

What do you guys think? How much does she really deserve?

Twilight Eclipse Audio

If there are any HBO employees in here, please fix the audio on the third Twilight movie - Eclipse. Just rewatching the series now and the voices in Eclipse are pitched CONSIDERABLY higher to the point where it's kind of ridiculous to watch. It reminds me of chipmunks movie

Took an episode to get hooked but great soundtrack and creative concept that's somehow beautiful and anxiety inducing, Basically an adult Ghibli production. They seriously not doing a second season? That show needed more marketing.

HBO series randomly appearing on other platforms?

I've noticed a few HBO series have suddenly been added to other on demand services. All 7 seasons of True Blood have mysteriously been added to Amazon Prime UK. All 7 seasons of Six feet under have been added to 4od. Band of brothers and The Pacific was also recently available on Amazon Prime.

Why is HBO suddenly doing this, does this mean we'll get more HBO series on other platforms?.

JIMBO (an unproduced HBO/David Milch/Ed O'Neill project)

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hey folks,
New to this sub (and Reddit in general). I’m exploring the David Milch (Deadwood) Archives at Yale University and doing write-ups which I post to r/deadwood.

I thought some of you may be interested in this week’s piece, which explores a script Mr. Milch worked on for HBO and Ed O’Neill about disgraced Ohio Congressman James Traficant. I also look into why Mr. Milch loves writing characters who are balding, and, in a section entitled “Riding the Gimpmobile,” reveal details of two unreported movie projects by Mr. Milch: Pilgrim, about a physically disabled CIA agent, and an adaptation of the Zev Chavets novel Inherit the Mob.

I know Substack gets up some people’s nostrils, but here’s the link if you’re interested: https://davidmilch.substack.com/p/jimbo-of-wigs-and-beards

(I’ve already done write-ups on Big City, another unrealized HBO project Mr. Milch developed, plus another about how Mark Twain was planned as a character in Deadwood).

Hope you enjoy.

Have I got news for You

I just want to say I like Have I Got News For You and love the comedy of Roy Wood Jr. The British version is pretty good too, seen a few of them on youtube. Also just want to say, Fuck Bill Maher. I used to watch him and now it is unwatchable unless it is to watch someone call him out on his bullshit.

I loved this series as a young lad & relish in the nostalgia as I rewatch the series. "All through the House" was terrifying back then

Which HBO Show cancellation stings the most? (Carnivale, Deadwood, or Rome)

Question, Which HBO Show cancellation stings the most?

I've been rewatching Deadwood, and it really is one of the best shows HBO produced and one of the best Television shows ever made. The setting, cast, writing and cinematography are all top notch.

However, watching Deadwood reminds me on how it got cancelled too early, and I'm also reminded that that show, Carnivale, and Rome all ended too early. I mean, I'm just wonder what HBO was thinking? Those 3 series were probably the best HBO offered and they just cancelled them.

So, I wonder what cancellation just stings the most? In my opinion, it's always going to be Deadwood for me, I really wish they got the finished the series.

So, What do you think?

This is too convenient. They suspect Johnny Warren is the mole. This is most likely a setup to be revealed later in the season.

The 8th episode of ‘Watchman’ is one of the best episodes of television I’ve seen.

Every time I watch it I sob towards the end. When this show came out, I had no real interest in it. I’m not a fan of the graphic novel. But I was bored, gave it a shot. And it ended up being one of my favorite shows - and this episode is why. It’s so well done And so emotional for me that I fell in love with the entire show. Anyone else have that Reaction?

Questions about the DTF St. Louis ending Spoiler

It's been a few months since I watched it, so I might be misremembering some details, but there are a couple of things I'm still confused about.

  1. How did the detective not find out that Floyd had gone to stay at the Quality Garden Inn the day before he died? Didn't Clark say something about Floyd being able to use his card or something along those lines?
  2. Why didn't Carol tell the detectives that Floyd had mentioned going on a work trip?
  3. Now that it's been established that Floyd died by suicide, do you think Carol would have received the life insurance payout?

Curious to hear what everyone thinks!

The Wire

Just re-watched The Wire, after many years passed having watched it.

Wow !!! What an excellent show, and even better the second time around. I couldn’t wait to watch the next episode, as if it was my first time again.

All of the actors in that show were phonomenal, and the way they laid everything out, it was as if you were really watching the life of everyone in Baltimore.

IMO, one of the greatest shows ever made. I could watch it again, right now, and not be bored for even a minute.

If you haven’t already watched, add it to your list. Seasons 3-5 were my favorites.

WAR - How do divorces with prenups work in UK?

A large part of this show seems to hinge on the change in circumstance and how Morgan’s company is worth a lot more than when the prenup was signed. Can someone explain in British law why that matters and is sufficient to overturn a prenuptual agreement? I don’t really understand how the law works here and also why the lawyers seem to care so much about story telling and emotion - are arbiters that easily swayed? I always assumed arbitration was generally very aligned to contract law and had the least likelihood of any legal process of deviating from contracts which is in part (along with expediency and cost) why ppl (oftentimes corporation) insist upon it vs trials.

True Blood UPDATE (I'm finished!)

Post image
25 Upvotes

Phenomenal series. Perfect parts of comedy, campiness, drama, heartbreak, action, horror. I enjoyed every minute of it. Never did see it drop off in terms of quality or storytelling as some folks suggested. If anything, it just kept getting better and better.

So many great characters. Sookie was terrific but Jason Stackhouse just might now be my favorite character of all-time. (It's between him and Arya from GOT)

Special shout to Pam. She was a hoot.

Here's my new updated Top 10:
1. Game of Thrones
2. The Wire
3. The Leftovers
4. The Sopranos
5. Deadwood
6. Veep
7. The Pitt
8. Treme
9. Oz
10. True Blood
