I want to quit after 5 months of working

I landed a job after my degree in computer science. I was really happy until I got to know the work I am doing is IT audit not at all even closer to doing anything with technology so I am already running opposite from my dream goal now the company asks me to work for 45 hrs a week I am not able to skill up or learn anything new aside from the job.

The job is boring too things that I am doing I believe a 9th grade student can also do this so learning anything new is also not there and they still give so much work, I am waking up doing my job and then going back to sleep. I work on weekends too If I don't cover my hours on weekdays. I can't drop out as well since the job market is kinda cooked and no one would want a fresher or an IT audit experience. I have been really depressed lately and don't find myself waking out of bed to work.

People have asked me to learn something on the side while still doing the job and start applying to other jobs. But the job just squeezes out all my energy and my time and I have no energy to do anything other than sleep. I just want this misery to end but I think I am stuck in a trap and I can't get out.

You need to leave home earlier to make it on time.

I work in retail and all the glory and pain that comes with it. Lately we have had an issue with pepole coming in late. Mind you this have been out of their control..

Late last week the buss company changed and its not been without growing pains. Busses not turning up, buss drivers not turning up, bussesbreaking down, buss drivers not knowing their routs etc. It's been well..a catastrophe. As I said earlier alot of my coworker lean on public transport to get to work and due to this a few has been late the past few days. One was 30 minuts late.

This caused one of the managers posting on our work group chat that "They know busses are changing over. But people need to start leaving home earlier to ensure they arrive on time."

As you can guess pepole are abit annoyed over this. For example. My coworker who were 30 minuts late the other day left home and houer and a half before their shift started. The journey should only take 20-30 minuts depending on traffic. During that time 6 busses did not turn up and they ended up one minute late. So pretty much beat the clock.

HOWEVER. The third manager (We have three managers: The top dog and two assistants) That if they isn't careful. They will be in trouble..

Like what do they want us to do? Camp outside the store? Sleep in the stock rooms? All of us already leave with plenty of time to get on before we are due to start. What the f do they want us to do? Non of us can afford taxis as that would cosy us an whole houers pay

There’s No Going Back Now

dear friends:

I’ve come to Reddit before with posts about wanting to quit, when is a good time to quit, and how I regretted a new job I’d taken. Today, after four months, I finally decided to email my boss. Not to quit necessarily (although, I imagine that is where it is heading) but to explain the many challenges I’ve been facing and whether there is a way forward as a contract and remote employee.

I feel like I was my boss’s impulse purchase: some shiny new thing she made an offer to on a whim and then promptly shelved and forgot about. for four months, I’ve struggled with not being onboarded, feeling like I’ve had no support, guidance, or the resources to be set up for success. In a team that is overworked and moving fast, I haven’t wanted to burden anyone with my questions and so I’ve done my best to be as “plug and play” as possible. And yet, I’ve faced challenge after challenge and today, after a particularly combative colleague couldn’t find the time to explain a new project to me that he has the experience working on and I am new to, I finally broke. I found the letter I’ve been writing for four months now, saved in my phone in a note titled “for when it’s time” and sent it to my boss.

now I wait. I know I made the right choice but I feel terrified, and flooded with self doubt, and fear of what people will think of me for not making it even a year in this role. I’m not sure what I hope for from this post. perhaps commiseration or validation or simply a friend.

I just quit my fucking job

I work in Finance. Some back office bullshit. Today I just woke up feeling wrong.. I was staring at my screen like a zombie just clicking away when it hit me that I do not give a single fuck, and that I am quite literally wasting my life away. I walked into my boss’s office and quit and fuck it felt so good to walk out of that office knowing I won’t be here tomorrow. I would rather be poor, homeless, than do something that doesn’t matter, that makes me miserable, day in, day out. I might decide to just drive my car around the country until I run out of money, then cross that bridge.

Wish me luck and fuck corporate slavery.

Live free or die

My job stresses me out so bad I now have a physiological response to the building. I want to quit but don't have anything lined up yet.

So I am an assistant manager for a company in the firearms industry, been with this company for almost 3 years, I've risen through the ranks yet I see no further growth in the company. My current manager though a great person really needs to work on how she runs the team. I've voiced my concerns and tried but no change has really been made. She always takes up more responsibilities that other locations of ours don't take up, so when she focuses on responsibilities outside of our team and our location, it all falls on to me. We have had a few "ballistic incidents" in my time here that I have witnessed, one of which was extremely traumatizing. I used to work in the EMS field so you'd think I'd be able to handle it well. But now the stress of everything has snowballed in a nutshell to, if i go on speaking for long enough I have the urge to throw up along with muscle pain in my neck. I've seen multiple doc's about this and they confirmed it is stress and not anything medical. With the holidays coming up (our busiest season), I know that pile of things to do to perfection is going to land in my lap. So I planned a trip that I've been wanting to take for a long time for a few weeks to try and reset myself before my cortisol levels are launched through the roof. At first she said she'd work with me and she approved it verbally and even in our scheduling system. The next day she denied it, since then I've been looking at and applying to other jobs but nothing has landed yet, I've even drafted a 2 week notice letter. I do respect her as a person and I love my team that are even now friends. I don't want to leave them high and dry but want to be gone before the shit hits the fan and take that trip anyway. Anyone got advice?

McDonald's and it's unsanitariness

I have been working at my current job for around a year now, and the amount of health violations we commit on a daily basis is fucking absurd. To start off, our GM hasn't bought the cleaning tablets for the coffee machine for MONTHS now, with only god knows what bacteria and diseases are festering inside the machine. When it comes time to clean our fry dispenser we are taught and reinforced to ONLY use water, no soap or sanitizer. We use sanitizer buckets with rags in them from 12+ hours ago that isn't cleaning shit, our bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. The deep frier oil can go up to a week old and they rarely even clean it. The food will sit in it's baskets on the warmer for HOWEVER long it takes to sell, we have had hamburger meat sit there for literal hours before being sold on slower days. Safety isn't a concern either but I'm not even going to go into that basket of worms.

Tips to survive my last days of boring job

Basically this job is 8 hrs of standing, and usually i deal with someone once every hour. I am to stand by a door and do nothing else. I have three more shifts left before I am done but I NEED help to make things more bearable.

What can I do inside my head to pass 8 hours?

I need good brain things that I can do, that take up. TIME.

I usually just pace if I'm somewhere not visible to guests usually but if I’m inside the venue it’s a bit more tricky to do much physical movement. I have thought through my entire novel idea. I have agonised over how much I want to quit. I’ve counted the grates on the ceiling.

I can’t listen to podcasts but if someone knows earphones that look like earplugs I might be able to get away with sneaky listening as we can wear earplugs. My ears are kind small for the small earphones I bought to try out are absolutely massive and stick out so bad. Do not sit discreetly in ear as advertised.

Would you feel bad?

Hey all, I’m currently to write in here to gather opinions. I recently separated from the Army about a year ago and right after I got out, I held a high stress job working with special needs as a direct staff support for about 10 months. However, the company always failed to recognize the ones who actually did all the work (upper management got all the credit with a fancy new office etc) and was just severely burnt out in the end due to things never changing in the company for our core members. I took about a month off doing a cleaning gig which I loved and then I got hired on as Manager at a convenience store. Whole new ball game to me and now I’m working 50 even 60 hour weeks floating between days and overnights to keep the store open. Employees calling out once a week at least. I just applied to another cleaning position that is a bit closer to me. However, I have made a lot of connections with this new job as manager such as customers and most of my employees. As much as I don’t want to leave, I’m physically exhausted. Today I broke down in front of my supervisor while she was correcting me on little things ( which I will always take constructive criticism) but after pulling long weeks and doing overnights mixed in with days, I just sort of lost it. Our goal has been to get some overnight staff in, but even with them coming into train, I could still be doing this lifestyle for a month. I’m tired.
I’m just writing in here to hopefully gain some positive insight and that I shouldn’t feel bad for wanting to quit already?
What are y’all’s thoughts? Please be kind, it’s been a rough day 💕

Should I quit

I started a job at a high traffic shopping center cafe surrounded by high end luxury stores. On my trial shift they were severely understaffed and asked me to stay and if I can work for a few hours. My first proper shift they put me on the front end of the house and was taking orders alone all day without any training. I also had to serve all the cakes and pastries.

Saw some funny things like the head barista and manager yelling at eachother in Chinese, and my manager yelling with a customer, but here’s what really pissed me off….

My floor supervisor told me in the morning to leave the empty cake containers in the fridge to put them back at the end of the day because the lady who makes the cakes gets mad if they’re not dated. At the end of the shift I’m closing my area and minding my own business when she comes in out of nowhere and starts having a tantrum because the cake containers in the fridge were missing and starts bombarding me and yelling at me if I took them to wash, and that she specifically told me not to blah blah and I’m just standing there because I can’t remember either. Turns out the cake lady herself bought them to wash 😂😂and they have a quarral. my manager comes back and just goes “so it wasn’t you” like thanks for letting me know I was dying to find out. No apology or anything.

I'm just curious what you do for a living, and why do you hate it? Might help me or others stear clear of certain jobs. I'm currently in customer service and hate it for obvious reasons, ha...

Whattttt... posted last week about setting a resignation letter... they want me to reconsider!

I was Free y'all 🤣 😅 made peace with needing to spend less and hold on to my savings until the next role comes along - I wanted to save my sanity and just go.

They emailed the next morning (today) asking me to reconsider. I agreed to meet with them, see what they have to say - no matter what, I am so proud that I clearly was the good worker I knew I was; just trying to do my job in the face of a raging narcissist boss.

Don't know what I'm going to do yet... TBC...

*Yes it's great $$ but I have 1 irreplaceable body and mind while there are Sooo many companies out there. Not going to risk myself so I can have the money for when this person puts me in the hospital 🏥

Boss screamed me at coz i was 1 hr late (unavoidable) but conveniently forgot I worked the weekend

27F I work in a small startup where the ceo is my direct superior. Now to give you some context, one of clients visited on Sunday and we had to work on that day. This boss always expects us to stay beyond our working hours on Saturdays (I work Monday - Saturday). Now that being said today my vehicle broke down and I was forced to get it fix even though its nearly the end of month and I don't have any money left. As i have worked for 10 days straight I thought of calling out sick or take a leave. I decided against it and decided to come to work since i had an important meeting later in the day. When I entered the office, the ceo is already angry and screaming at other people and when he sees me coming in, humiliates me even though i told him the reason for me being late. And then he loudly, in front of everybody asked me to take leave and go. This isn't the first time something of this sort has happened and I am seriously thinking of quitting. This is definitely the straw that broke the camel's back but the best friend advises against it. Idk how i should do.
