Heyyy everyone!! I wanted to thank you all for the replies to my last post in regards to whether or not harp would be a good fit for me with my hand disability, and I decided to go through with it, ajd order a Ravenna 34! This beautiful instrument just arrived yesterday, and I'm at a loss for words. Its even more gorgeous in person! The pictures truly don't do it justice! Im still shaking with excitement! After i get home from work I'm going to get it tuned up, and mess around with it for the majority of the night! I got the P20 pickup installed on it, and the next thing on my list is a Fishman Loudbox, a walrus audio slöer, and a MXR carbon copy to make the most wonderful ambient dreamscape tone!

I am also looking around for an online instructor to show me the ropes! I have experience with other string instruments, but this is my first time playing harp, and want to learn this properly. Im just so thrilled to finally begin the next chapter in my musical journey! 🖤

Newbie Harp questions?

I love the harp and was happy to find a sub for the instrument. I want to play then died inside when I saw the price tag. Especially since I can’t work due to disability and that’s not going to change unfortunately.

I am also 5ft 90lbs and worried about a harp knocking me down should I try to play.

  1. Are lap harps bad to learn on since you can’t get proper technique? I am thinking Harpsicle size. Is there a size in between lap and full size that I can lean back?
  2. Do you always have to progress to a bigger harp? Due to financial constraints that may not be a possibility.

3 Would going to a music store and asking if I could try a harp be a bad idea?

  1. Are Rosewood harps cheap/poorly made? I see those online a lot.
