ANNOUNCEMENT Next Stop: macOS 26 Tahoe

Hackintoshing lives for another year! macOS Tahoe will be the FINAL release for Intel Macs, as stated during the Platforms State of the Union presentation. It's been a good ride.

Officially supported Intel models:

  • MacBook Pro 16-inch (2019)
  • Mac Pro (2019)
  • MacBook Pro 13-inch, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports (2020)
  • iMac (2020)

Hello I am a Year Number Lover But What Does This Mean

All graphics that worked in Sequoia should work in Tahoe.

OCLP

Wait for an official announcement. If you post about OCLP before that I am going to send Tim Apple to remove every Mac from your house.

Can I emulate ARM macOS 26 on x86?

No.

Can I run ARM macOS 26 on a Raspberry Pi?

No.

Can I have Apple Intelligence on Intel please I need to write a dissertation in 15 minutes

No.

Does it boot on Intel Hackintoshes now?

Yes, with OpenCore 1.0.5.

Make sure to upgrade all of your kexts to their latest versions.

Known Issues as of Beta 2

  • Race condition with VoodooPS2 and VoodooI2C, so on some boots they don't initialize properly
  • AppleALC is broken because AppleHDA was removed from Tahoe. Use HDMI/DP audio for the time being.

  • WhateverGreen is bugged on AMD cards, so you can't use boot arguments like agdpmod=pikera. You are affected by this if you get a kernel panic with AMDSupport mentioned.

  • IntelBTPatcher causes kernel panics

  • IntelMausi may not work correctly with certain Intel ethernet chipsets

Your list of supported Intel models is not complete. The 2020 iMac is also supported. That is a 27" model with 10 gen Intel CPUs (i5, i7, i9), AMD RDNA GPUs and of course a T2 coprocessor.

Good catch, I'll add that

I fear you may be hitting on something with the T2 chip bit. The 2019 iMac 5K uses a 9th gen CPU but lacks a T2 chip and is notably absent from the support list.

The T2 equipped Mac mini 2018 was dropped too even though it’s more powerful than the 2020 MBP’s

I'm surprised the 2019 iMac doesn't have a T2 when they started using them in what, 2017 / 2018?

Great News it does work on VMware but obviously no video driver

Lacking "Apple Intelligence" is a feature. Storage and resource consumption aside, Apple AI anything is garbage, there are much better alternatives.

This ☝🏼. I disabled Apple Intelligence on my M4 mac mini. It's piece of trash that no one wants.

I am surprised, not only sequoia but macOS 16 (ahem '26) is supported on Intel. How very strange and un-Apple like.

They've been much more reasonable with hardware support than they were in the past. Back when the PowerPC to Intel transition began they only gave PPC 1 more release after they completed the transition. PPC Macs that shipped with 10.4 Tiger were given the opportunity to upgrade to 10.5 Leopard and then that was it with the exception of security updates

They announced at the end of the Platforms State of the Union that Tahoe is the last release on Intel.

I’m watching the Apple platform State of the Union video and they just announced that macOS Tahoe 26th will be the final build for Intel Macs.

It may be the beginning for us to dedicate ourselves to ensuring that this latest version is compatible with even the worst possible hardware, not only the processor, but also the graphics and Wifi cards that are the headaches of a modern build.

Lucky to have one of the last Intel Macs that fully supports macOS without OCLP. But I also have a Mac Pro 5,1, hope the T2 nonsense doesn’t interfere too much with adding support for older models

Turn with me, to the light of Linux and Hypervisors.

Run free ESXi or Proxmox and visualize your next Hackintosh.

u/Avandalon Jun 10 '25

The problem with that is that the lifetime is also dead with intel macs. You still rely on the same drivers and without GPU the performance is z even before you start emulating arm

Will macOS Tahoe support OCLP? - I have a 2017 MBA running on macOS Sequioa with OpenCore Legacy Patcher, but now I am worried about losing support for my device even with OCLP.
