Rules Updates and link to Sub Wiki
Hello Western Slope!
Just wanted to let you know of changes to moderation on the subreddit. We are working to make the subreddit rules clearer as well as clean up the sticky posts and such. We are also adding some additional automated features.
Most of what we are doing can be found in the wiki here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/grandjunction/wiki/index
A few of the highlights:
- Clarification of the sub rules
- Expanded sub wiki
- Moving to GJ FAQ is relocated to the Wiki
- Planning to add an auto responder in moving posts directing them to the wiki
- Added BotBouncer to automate removal of known and suspect bot accounts
Please let us know if you have any questions or constructive input on anything we can add to the wiki.
Sincerely,
Your friendly mod team

A Note from the Mod Team About Political Threads
Hello GJ Community. It's us, your friendly Mod Team. Just a quick note as we are getting closer to the election. There are several political threads and bound to be an increasing number as we get close to the election. Please know, that we are being somewhat lenient right now on the discussions, but we are still watching for rule breaking.
If things become too much of a handful, we will go scorched earth on political posts and immediately close them. Posts may be locked or removed if the comment section gets out of hand. We will do our best not to take this action since this is supposed to be a place of discussion. If your comment is removed by moderators, please consider this a warning. Repeated warnings will result in a permanent ban from the sub.
As always, egregious violations of the rules are an immediate ban.
We don't necessarily want to do this, but we also don't have all the spare time in the world to read every political argument. Keep it civil and report any rule breaking and we will keep up as best we can.

Joliet Stove 403B needs love
galleryCan anyone direct me to local professional help restoring this 1890 coal stove? The local woodstove shop had no leads for me. Needs rust removal, paint, and chrome work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Happy to provide more pics.

Halloween night events/shenanigans?
My partner and I want to go out on Halloween, whether it be downtown or anywhere else in the area, we just don’t know a lot of people here and don’t know what the scene is about. Anyone know what all is happening that night?

Good vibes
29M I just moved here about a month ago. For context I am from Alabama, but have lived in steamboat, the rifle area, and this will be my 3rd year in Colorado. I grew up skiing and have always been drawn to the mountains hence the move from AL to CO. I feel like since I’ve been out here I’ve struggled to connect with people and am wondering the best avenue to do so here. I love sports whether watching them or live. Am a big golfer. Dabble with video games. Love live music and love shows at red rocks or a dive bar with a local artist just the same. I’m active, partake in social/casual drinking and weed (nothing crazy I was in a fraternity at Alabama those days are behind me) but just genuinely looking for friends and things to do. Any and all suggestions are much appreciated! (PS not a conservative or trump supporter felt like it was worth saying being from Alabama lol)

Election Day
Has anyone else noticed that a certain red-hatted group hasn’t been flaunting this election cycle in town nearly as much, at least compared to the previous 10 years?

Job Opporunities
Hi friends,
I moved to GJ about 2 months ago and have been struggling hard on finding any sort of job.. I have 5+ years of experience in accounting/finance and an additional 2+ years of bartending/server jobs in restaurants. I’ve read tons of posts noting people get hired more so with connections in this town so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of any openings? Thanks!

GJPD, MCSO say they will continue use of ALPRs amid budget constraints, public backlash
Seven community members asked the City Council for a agenda item on Flock/ALPRs on Wenesday alone. Deflock Mesa County has been asking for a public forum to discuss since August, and the Council hasnt responded.
The next City Council meeting is Wed 11/4 5:30p 250 N 5th.

ISO Silversmith
I’m an artist and mostly draw with graphite and silverpoint. I’d like to make my own silverpoint stylus.
I just want something pretty and handmade (preferably by me or another creative person) to draw with as I’m kinda bored of what I currently use and would like more options. And the design I have in mind is kinda the “traditional” design as seen in old paintings throughout history.
I’ve taken a small metals and jewelry class years ago when I was in school (in another state), so I know how to do it but could use a refresher (with the annealing part mostly), access to tools/equipment, and someone to help/advise me.
It’s a simple process and wouldn’t even take a whole day, probably an hour or so. I can pay a studio fee and/or for the materials, as I don’t have the metal yet.
(Would probably have to order it if I can’t find anything in town the right size. Needs to be thick enough gauge and long enough length that it’s comfortable to hold.)
I’ve checked out the gem club up by the monument and their classes, but I really don’t care to make anymore jewelry. It’s not my style and I don’t have anyone to gift it to. It sounds like I cant even just pay a fee for materials and whatever to make the one thing. I have to take at least one class to use the space/equipment.

Anyone seen any green chili roaster's?
As the title says, has anyone seen any green chili roasters around town? Idk if it's the right time of year for them but I feel like it's around fall that they are around.

Fed up with r/Colorado
I’m tired of the Colorado subreddit being a place for just pictures and mainstream media.
So I created a new sub r/ColoradoV2. A subreddit for the people of Colorado! Please check it out!
I’m trying to create a place for respectful discourse of important topics that don’t meet r/Colorado’s “standards”. And other misc Colorado topics that would not be allowed.
