Hey guys, I really need your help. I’m genuinely at my wit’s end.
My Golden Retriever puppy just isn’t eating, and I’ve tried almost everything I can think of. I’ve tried chicken broth, Cerelac, Royal Canin wet food, and even grinding Royal Canin kibble with warm water to make it easier for him to eat. But he just refuses to eat.
He weighs around 2.5 kg and is active, which is honestly quite ironic considering how little he eats.
I took him to the vet, and initially, the doctor said he was still settling into his new home and that his appetite would improve with time. Today is his fifth day at my home, but there’s still been no improvement in his eating habits.
He absolutely loves going out onto our lawn. It’s one thing he genuinely looks forward to, and he even whines when I don’t take him there. So, while he seems to enjoy playing and exploring, getting him to eat is a completely different story.
The vet has prescribed a few medicines, including Hep N sure syrup, but I haven’t seen any improvement yet.
The thing is, I lost my dog of 12 years last year, and bringing a new puppy home was a huge emotional step for me. Now, every time he refuses to eat, I panic. I know this might be making me more anxious, but I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore.
Has anyone here had a puppy who barely ate during the first few days or weeks but eventually turned out completely healthy?
What helped? Did their appetite improve once they settled into their new home? And, most importantly, how long did it take?
I’m not looking for a diagnosis from Reddit. I just want to hear from people who’ve been through something similar, especially those whose puppies are now happy and healthy.
I feel so helpless right now, and honestly, I could really use some reassurance. Please share your experiences. ❤️
