Announcement We Now Have an Additional Moderator

Hi everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know that we now have an additional moderator. Everyone please congratulate u/Folkvore and please be respectful towards them.

iMac and I are both still mods as well, but between the group having gotten bigger and some changes in our schedules and such in our lives offline it was becoming too much for a team of two and we really needed a third person.

Thanks so much everyone.

Pop culture Going to concerts with Gen Z is cringe

I'm 40, grew up going to shows without phones. I go to a show these days and everyone is watching it through their phone. It's so annoying, how can you party with all these kids holding their phones up. Noone even dances or appreciates the show... they're all obsessed with getting a video. Don't get me wrong, I liked some good bootleg shows back in the day but there was a specific section for those folks. They left the rest of us alone to enjoy the show and be present.

Edit to add-

I was just venting after seeing a Google phone advertisement where everyone was watching a terrible concert through their phones. It really pissed me off and usually at a concert I will just stand somewhere else if people are being phone crazy. It was interesting to hear other people's feedback

Discussion Do millennials party more than Gen X and Gen Z?

I am 32F and most of my friends are single and childless and we live in a big city in the USA. It is very normal to see people our age and older at bars, lounges, and clubs. Even my married friends will go out occasionally.

I often hear so many younger period say 30s is too old to party. That has not been my experience.

Also, many Gen Z that I know don’t go out as much as the 30 year old crowd.

I could be wrong, anyone else noticed this though?

Pop culture 3 years since Matthew Perry's death

Post image
4 Upvotes

It’s been 3 years since we lost Matthew Perry, and it still hurts knowing that the man who made millions of people laugh is no longer with us.

For so many of us, Matthew wasn’t just an actor. He was Chandler Bing, the sarcastic, awkward, lovable friend who could turn even the most ordinary moment into something hilarious. His jokes, his expressions, his perfectly timed comebacks, and that unforgettable smile made Friends feel like home.

But behind all those laughs was a real person who faced his own struggles, and that makes his legacy even more meaningful. He gave us countless moments of happiness through his work, and even years from now, new generations will discover Chandler Bing and laugh just as hard as we did.

Rewatching Friends will never feel quite the same knowing Matthew is gone, but every time Chandler makes us laugh, a little piece of Matthew lives on.

Discussion How has professional wrestling changed society? Boomers didn’t grow up on it, but it was huge part of Gen X, Millenials and Gen Z’s childhoods.

Poll Are generations a global thing?

I'm talking about commonly used westernized labels (Boomer, Gen X, Millennial, etc).

In my opinion, generational labels are applied to only Americans. I personally don't see how a Millennial could fit to non-Americans.

Yes. It's a global thing
No. It's an American thing
It depends

Discussion People born in the 90s (92-99) and 2000s are having less sex these days

I came across articles from 2016 that said people around the age of 20-24 are having less sex than anyone above 24. The same goes for articles that say Gen Z is having less sex because they do not have the lust to have fun with their partner, because of the problems they have with dating apps, and because they don't have one-night stands. Or they don't care too much about having sex. It seems that anyone born before 92 is doing well in bed, I guess 😏😈

Discussion Why do people say Gen Zers are "soft" because they never experienced struggle when older generations put y'all in conditions to where you don't have to struggle as much as previous generations?

Like are people that stupid? Why are we romanticizing struggle and want people to be "hard" all the time, yet still want younger folks to have better lives to where they don't have to struggle? You can't have it both ways

Either make younger folks have the same trauma as you so they can finally be "hard" in your eyes. Or Give them a better life so they don't have to struggle as much

You can't give them one and then get mad that the other doesn't exist. It's just human nature

And the worst part is y'all Gen Zers are gonna eventually do it to Gen Alpha, even though you guys don't like it when it happens to you. I swear the cycle of humanity is a joke

In depth Does technology still mesmerize you?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately after having a casual conversation with some younger kids. To them, the tech we have today is just normal. To them, it feels like something that was always meant to exist. When I mentioned futuristic concepts or things I used to think were impossible, they didn't even blink and some of them even laugh saying it was silly.

Being born in 2000, I feel like I hit a unique sweet spot. I still grew up using & seeing older tech like cassette tapes, Walkmans, giant CRT TVs, and flip phones. I vividly remember playing video games back then, staring at the screen, and thinking, "Graphics cannot get more realistic than this. How could tech possibly top what we have now?"

I also remember asking my mom a similar question years ago. She told me that back when cell phones first started becoming accessible for everyday use, her ultimate dream was just being able to see the person on the other end while talking to them. Now, video calls are so routine we don't even think twice about them.

Even today, I still find myself taking a step back to appreciate how wild everything is-regardless of whether it's always for better or worse. We have VR headsets, phones that are effectively mini supercomputers, Al, self-driving cars, and robotics moving at a breakneck pace. We definitely haven't slowed down.

Does technology still give you that sense of awe or wonder? What's one piece of tech today that younger you would have thought was pure magic?

Pop culture VSCO and its culture/aesthetic being a thing again?

I (22m) remember back in the mid to late 2010s when VSCO aesthetics were everywhere, literally, feels like fall/winter 2019 again, in so many ways, but that may be the most clear one. I do like it and all, but i wanna check in here because algorithms do things to perception, is this stuff popular again? both the app itself, but i feel like i do see alot more of that aesthetic around, bright colors, and Chainsmokers video aesthetics, there is a certain 'winter look' to it (see Ariana Grande - Santa Tell me, and you will know)
am i crazy or is this big again for some reason

Discussion All these threads about which generations party the best

Partying is cringe. This is particularly why gen x is such a cringe generation, because one of the only things they did was party and do drugs instead of change things. Not that an occasional good time is a bad thing, but its the identifying as partiers thats the cringe part.

I know she was a meme back then even tho meme culture didn’t really exist pre 2008, but would today’s media even care about her since people said from what I’m reading she wouldn’t be a good pick for McCain
