Discussion Schädlingsbekämpfung im Raum des Terrariums

• Upvotes

(Ich besprühe die Pflanzen NATÜRLICH NICHT im Zimmer!)

Help/Advice Just got my first standing day gecko and was wondering if there are any more out of the box things I should know!

I know they aren't a beginner breed! I work in a pet store and this poor baby had been there since December and I just couldn't take it anymore. I've been doing a ton of research and I feel fairly confident but I was wondering if there is anything that isn't covered in the basics I should know.

I have to take care of the reptiles at work but this is the first one I've owned myself so I just want to do the best I can. I'm definitely going to get more decor for the cage but this is what I'm working with right now. They are already pretty friendly with me from interacting more at work but if anyone has any tips for helping them warm up to you that would be appreciated too.

The hot glue is temporary. I bought the enclosing off my manager and was very paranoid so I went a little crazy.

Enclosures How big is your enclosure?

I have this need, almost an obsession really to create a huge tank for a new group of Neon Day Geckos (Phelsuma Klemmeri). I currently have a 40G breeder and a 36G bowfront. I know that they are only 3 to 4 inches but I want to give them a good life if they live 10+ years as they say that the do.

I was in the shower and looking at creating an enclosure as big as that or bigger. I want tall plants, maybe a ficus tree for them to climb on. I want it from floor to ceiling, so like 8 feet by 6 feet by 24 inches deep.

I know that the only way to make this happen within my budget would be to build it.

I want to go to Home Depot and basically design my own walk in tropical room. Am I crazy? Does anyone else have this obsession? Or am I spinning 🥴?

Enclosures Securing decor to glass walls

Post image

Hey all, I could really use some advice. I am having a really hard time keeping things secure in the top half of my crestie's hab.

When she was a baby in her smaller hab, I tried to use silicone to attach branches and such to the walls, but after about a month everything fell down. She is currently in an 18x18x36 tall glass enclosure with a wire mesh top (I didn't want glass but at the time it was literally the only hab in that size available anywhere in my area or online). When I was building this hab, I used Great Stuff Pond and Stone to secure things to the walls, but only a couple of pieces held up properly, the rest came crashing down randomly. I had a piece come off again this weekend that has destabilized most of the upper half of her hab.

I need to take Chai out and fix this stuff, but I'm at a loss as to how to keep things secure on the walls! Both silicone and great stuff are what I've seen recommended but neither one has held up for me. How do you all get things to stay put?

Pic of the adorable gremlin in her semi-messed up hab for attention

Discussion Next gecko?

Hello all. I am a long term reptile and amphibian keeper, breeder (retired), and rehabber. There are a few niche gecko species I have been looking into keeping for a while now and I wanted to hear some personal experiences anyone here has had with keeping them to aid in my final decision before I start building a species specific enclosure. If anyone has any kind of experience with golden geckos, northland green geckos, or wonder geckos I’d love to hear them. (I am aware of their differing care and husbandry requirements, commonly known low handleability and am looking for personal experience with encounters or keeping) thank you all.

Help/Advice What is it like having a chameleon gecko?

Hi friends!

I've adored the chameleon gecko for a couple of years and now I may finally have space to start researching and considering one! But I don't have any friends who have these, so I'd love to ask you what is it like owning one?

I currently have a leopard gecko in a bioactive setup for the past few years and he is a delight!! I love hanging out with him, he's so interactive and good natured, doesn't even bite the vet at his annual visits LOL!

So are chameleon geckos interactive? Are they out and about or is it an empty terrarium syndrome because they are nocturnal! What are your thoughts on having one? I look forward to hearing back and please share pics of your silly little chams!!!

Help/Advice Possible Leopard Gecko Phenol Exposure - Next Steps?

Today my girlfriend was helping me clean the enclosures of my two 8-year-old female leopard geckos. In an attempt to disinfect the bottoms of the enclosures, she sprayed Lysol disinfectant spray onto the glass and let it dry as the instructions say to do in order to kill bacteria. This didn't sit right with me, so I did some Googling and sure enough Lysol contains phenols, which are highly toxic to reptiles. Additionally, the enclosures were sprayed inside the reptile room so my other animals (other geckos, ball python, invertebrates) could have been exposed to the fumes, though nothing but the bottoms of the enclosures had contact with the liquid.

I rinsed out both tanks very thoroughly with water in the bathtub (phenols are luckily water soluble) and luckily none of the enclosure furnishings came into contact with the spray. Neither of us can detect any odor of the spray from the enclosures. I replaced the substrate and have moved the geckos back into their enclosures, as I have no suitable alternatives to house them on hand. They should not have come into contact with any surface that had been sprayed with the substrate in place, but I cannot rule out that some of it got onto the enclosure sides (though I did rinse the entirety of the insides with water, so hopefully there wouldn't be any phenol residues left over but I can't really guarantee this either).

I'm going to weigh each gecko daily and check up on them several times each day to assess their health. Right now they both seem perfectly normal, but I know that illness can take time to set in and that reptiles mask signs of illness. My question is, do I need to do anything else? I will contact my vet tomorrow when the office opens. From my initial web search it doesn't seem like this is necessarily a scenario to seek immediate emergency medical care, but I want to be proactive. I'm hoping to get a read on just how worried I should be or just how closely I should monitor them and for how long.

I will also be monitoring the other animals present in the room, though I am less worried about them as nothing in their environment came into contact with the spray. I found some other reports of people using Lysol in the same room as a reptile and each time the animal had been perfectly fine, though obviously not something you want to replicate. Finally, I intend to be out of town from Friday morning through Sunday evening, and I'd like to figure out if I'd be "in the clear" by then or if I should cancel my trip to monitor my animals. I appreciate any guidance you can give.

I got a Chahoua gecko for the first time, when I brought him home from the expo he was super dark and fired up and after a few hours in his new enclosure he was pretty pale looking, I assume he finally got to relax and fired down some?

A few things to note: he is 2, he is a pine island, and he is male here are pictures of him dark/light.

The one where he was darker I had him in a high humidity empty PVC enclosure while I got something else setup for him

Help/Advice Care on pictus geckos?

Hey yall! I just got this pictus gecko on Saturday.
Anyone have experience with these guys? I can barely find info about them online, so any info is greatly appreciated!
Hes acclimating so last night I tried to feed him roaches and he wouldn’t take them. Just licked the calcium off and walked away lol. I’m going to try lugarti calcium since that’s what the breeders we’re giving him.
Breeder says they fed him crickets and meal worms. He’s a year old.

Been noticing that one of my 2 female Phelsuma klemmeri is getting much fatter than the other. In the first photo, you can see the individual I’m referring to on the bottom. What do you think this could be?

Help/Advice New owner. Can't get used to the crickets..

Hi all

I bought my AFT gecko around 8 weeks ago and she's amazing..

She is my first gecko but I've been a snake keeper for many years.

I didn't think I would struggle as bad with the insect feeding but I do. The crickets creep me out and I tried roaches, they are worse. If I could feed without handling I'd be okay but she seems to never catch them so I literally have to hold them in front of her 🫠

I honestly don't mind handling anything wormy, its just anything with legs, quick and scuttery I'm afraid of.

Is there any way to work around this? Please help before one of these little bugs gives me a heart attack 🫩
