Is the Raptor Too Much For Urban Environments?

• Upvotes

Title says it all. I am thinking about purchasing a Raptor R, but have reservations about the sheer size. Curious for those that own, or have owned, a Raptor in an urban setting. I don't live in God's country, so the truck will be living a life predominately in populated areas. This means newer developments with tighter parking lots/spots, smaller drive throughs, some parking garages, etc. I do road trips through the Mountains and need a truck bed, so that's where the Raptor comes in.

Never owned a truck before, so I am questioning if it's the right decision. Would really appreciate insight from those that have experienced life with the Raptor in populated areas. If it's a pain through and through, then this isn't the right decision.

Appreciate the time.

How many miles is too many?

• Upvotes

I’m currently driving a 2009 F150 platinum and I’m looking to upgrade to a ‘24 Raptor R in the next few months. I’ve seen several with 30 ($~130k), 40, and 50k ($95k) miles.

Higher miles obviously means more savings, but at what point should I not go any higher? 50k miles is kind of a lot for a 3 year old truck but the price is attractive. I’m hesitant about that many miles though

First order of business! Decals off, PPF, some off-road lights just in time to rip in the winter snow. Can’t wait

Too many raptor owners baby their trucks. Why buy these if you’re not going to jump them or scare the shit out of yourself driving it offroad like a side by side? Sure my fenders are out of alignment from way too many jumps, sure it’s in the shop from roasting axles, but man it’s fun and the kids love it. Help me understand Raptor owners that have parent princesses????? WHY?

I get to each their own but trust me this things are a riot but if I meet you in person I will push you to jump it 😂

Extended cab resale?

I've come across a low miles super cab 6.2 raptor. I honestly don't need the crew just wondering if they are less desirable to the general raptor guy. Also is the bed longer?

P06B6 Code 2014 Raptor

Was driving to work this morning and the check engine light came on. Put the scanner on when I got home and it gave me P06B6 code. Has anyone and similar code and know what’s the cause and how to fix it?

Who went from a Raptor back to regular truck life?

Post image

Do you long for the Raptor life? Would you get another, or one and done? I feel the Raptor is the coolest truck ever made, and in a year or two would love to have one as my next daily driver. I can’t stop thinking about one and want to know if they are that good.

Squeaking Sound Identification

Sorry for the wind noise, but you can easily hear the high pitched squeaking/squealing noise. I am assuming it's just the tires, right? If so, any idea what causes it and what can be done to mitigate it? These are the stock KO2s with 38k miles and plenty of tread life left on them.

New (to me) Raptor R

Post image

Finally pulled the trigger on a Raptor R this weekend! I’ve looked at them online for years. I went this weekend “just to look” and wanted to check all of my options so drove a Ranger Raptor and a regular F150 Raptor. Both were very nice but I wanted to drive an R before I made a decision. Found this one Certified, it’s a 2025 with about 23k miles. Roughly 0.015 seconds into the test drive, I knew I was buying it much to the chagrin of my wife lol. I think I made out okay on it too. I got them down to $105k and they got within shouting distance of what Carvana had my trade at. It’s actually the Carbonized Gray from the factory but the original owner wanted Avalanche Gray so it’s wrapped that color.

It’s so much fun to drive but I might spend the next week just sitting in a lawn chair in the garage staring at it.

Welp boys. Time for a new one I guess? Some lady blew through a red light and put my truck in a bad way. Still waiting on insurance to tell me the plan but it’s not looking good.

Living the dream

At 36 years old I can finally say I'm living the dream, the last piece was put in place a few weeks ago.

Traded in my 2018 3.5 super cab with 112k miles, the dealer initially offered 16.5k but talked them up to 20k. Bought a brand new 2026 Raptor.

After a solid break-in at 1200 miles, I took it grouse hunting and hit a few trails at Nemadji state forest and all I can say is holy sh*t this is so fun to off road. Even with my last truck having fox 2.0 coilovers there is NO comparison, completely different league.

Glad I got the rear wheel well liners and rokblokz installed before that trip 😆.. took a solid 12 minutes at the car wash just to get the mud out of the wheel wells.

Next up is window tint. Eventually, I'll need to upgrade the subwoofer since this B&O infinite baffle sub is lacking punch. It's an interesting design and has decent continuous bass but the punch is so underwhelming it actually sounds weird for some songs. That said, I told my wife I wouldn't need to buy any mods if I bought a raptor 😅

Brand new 801a, when mirror auto fold is enabled in the settings, it works once! Then every subsequent time the doors are shut and locked, the mirrors no longer auto fold in….

Shock buzzing

I’ve got a 2020 with right around 55k miles. I recently got the consistent “buzzing” from my left rear shock. I’ve replaced the solenoid and now the shock itself with new parts and it is STILL buzzing. Looking for advice on what to look at next to fix this?

37s vs 35s on 2022 Raptor 802A — worth the upgrade or stick with stock?

planning KMC wheels and trying to decide between keeping 35s or going straight to 37s.
My situation:
2022 Gen 3 Raptor — know it was designed with 37s in mind
Daily driver in LA — mostly street with occasional off-road
Already planning KMC 17" wheels
Want to do one purchase — wheels and tires together
Concerned about MPG hit — already getting ~11-12 MPG in city traffic
My questions:
Is the visual difference between 35s and 37s actually noticeable on a Gen 3?
How much does MPG realistically drop with 37s in daily driving?
Do 37s require a leveling kit on the Gen 3 or do they clear stock height?
Any rubbing issues on stock suspension?
Best 37" tire for mostly street with occasional off-road — leaning Nitto Ridge Grapplers
Would you go 35s or 37s if this is your daily driver?
Already planning paint correction, ceramic coat and tint first — wheels and tires are next on the list.
Appreciate any real world experience from Gen 3 owners. 🤙
