Plants I’m not even sad anymore about pawpaw season being a bit of a bust this year.

I just need to sort out the debris and unripe ones (to let them sit on the counter for a while), stuff my face, then make jam with whatever I can’t eat. There are so many trees with so much fruit where I got them from, I barely scratched the surface of what’s in the grove.

I cannot describe how amazing it feels to me to come across a new foraging area in the woods! These are some of my favorite edibles and last quite a while if properly taken care of. This is a grade A PNW Matsutake mushroom. Good hunting!

Plants Leached acorns have a vanilla malt smell

• Upvotes

I I began bleaching these acorns about a month ago, and I am finding that over Time they’ve developed a sort of vanilla malt smell, very pleasant. These were refrigerated and submersion water the entire time, but I did not change the water that often may be about once a week. I’ve been really busy. I imagine the more cautious thing to do would be to throw this out given a new smell, but it doesn’t smell unpleasant and the small amount that I tasted and then didn’t consume, tasted perfectly pleasant.

Blackberry nightshade

Here is about a week's worth of berries from one large plant I have allowed to grow in my backyard (with minor contributions from a few smaller plants). Will soon have enough to make some jam I reckon :) And given we've only just come into spring here, there should be plenty more fruiting after that as well

And yes, I have positively IDd the plant as blackberry nightshade :)
