I grew up eating at Hutchin’s. It was always decent, but holy hell have they stepped their game up these past few years. Crazy how much they’ve grown, and well-deserved if you ask me.
14
u/jojowasher May 29 '19
and what kind of price would you pay for that?
36
u/xjustapersonx May 29 '19
23 bucks for all you can eat there.

-2
u/redlotusaustin May 30 '19
ha! Their beef ribs are $22/lb and the Lunch Pack, which is basically 4 sandwiches & 2 sides, is $27.
I think they'd have to be somewhere between $35-50 for all you can eat, in order to break even.
13
u/xjustapersonx May 30 '19
I literally went there last week. Plus 4 times this year. It's 23 for all you can eat.

-2
u/Bluekross May 29 '19
Brisket is $21/lb, the Jalapeno's are $4 each, and the sides are around $3 each I think. So probably around $35 or so.

Jesus I love living in Texas most of the time but trying to name stuff cute Texas names is eyeroll inducing. Texas twinkies? Bitch they are jalapeño poppers, they’re common as hell and have a recognized name, use it.
41
u/Kinslayer2040 May 29 '19
They usually dont have brisket in them.
-13
May 29 '19
I’ve had them with almost every meat under the sun in them
16
u/Andoo May 30 '19
Everyone in Texas calls them poppers as well. If this restaurant wants to call them Texas Twinkies then that's fine.
9
u/Bluekross May 29 '19
I just ask for Brisket stuffed jalapeno's when I order them. I just used the name they give them so people could look them up.
-2
May 29 '19
Oh yeah I know you were just giving their name, been there before. It’s just unnecessary on their part to try and invent a new name. They’re a tailgate/grillout staple imo
2
u/Empire2098 May 30 '19
Funnily enough they only call them that at one of their two locations. The other one calls them firecrackers. Not sure if they make them differently.

HUTCHINS IS SO GOOD
1
u/pipinngreppin May 30 '19
Yep. Hutchin’s was my first BBQ growing up in Mckinney and still my favorite. I went there Sunday for the first time in about a year. Line was out the door and around the building. Took an hour but was worth it. That peach cobbler is something special. And free. Crazy. And by far my favorite sauce ever.
I do also really miss the jalapeño cornbread they had for a few years.

I grew up on Hutchins BBQ and Peach cobbler for dessert when I was in high school. Never eaten at their other expansion restaurants though. Just the original one.

u/jshorns03 May 30 '19
If you don't get the fried okra, you're doing it wrong. Their sides are definitely equal to their meats.
1
u/kingofhan0 May 30 '19
Thank you from the bottom of my Texan heart! I know where I will be eating next time I go to Dallas.
1
u/dorthyinwonder May 30 '19
Sliced Dill Pickles
My kind of BBQ. Always have to have sliced dill pickles with BBQ.
1
u/AlmaReville May 30 '19
Potato casserole topped with jalapeños and some fatty brisket. Try it next time.

I love in the area as well and you're the only person I've ever heard with this opinion. Sure, those other places are fine, I just can't fathom thinking they're better. What in particular makes you like them more?

Looks like the cups of sauce are eyes, brisket is the mouth trying to eat the mashed potatoes.

Hadn’t looked at the comments but judging from that bacon-wrapped jalapeño it looks like Hutchins BBQ
2
u/DukeGrizzly May 30 '19
It certainly is! 😊
1
May 30 '19
Only ate at the one in McKinney but heard the one in Frisco is even better which I don’t understand how that’s possible. I could eat there everyday
37
May 29 '19
Recently I learned that the average live expectancy in Texas is meat.
2
u/chadi34 May 30 '19
Can confirm. 32 meats (years) here and counting.
2
May 30 '19
As of now I have not heard of a Texan getting older than 32. Still investigating into the matter.

u/mei9ji May 29 '19
Are those bacon wrapped Jalapenos, and if so why? That just seems "extra".
6
u/DukeGrizzly May 29 '19
They're called "Texas Twinkies". It's one of the items that Hutchins is famous for.

Just one Texan's opinion: in the trash. If the food is good (which I'm betting it is) I'm not about to waste stomach space on plain ass white bread.
10
u/Xkiwigirl May 30 '19
Agreed. As a northerner living in the south, I still don’t get this. I can’t believe the audacity of taking a beautiful, delicious meal like that and slapping a dry ass slice of plain white dollar store bread next to it. It’s an insult. I love bread and I’m totally on board with including a nice buttery roll or something, but not this.
13
u/Unk0wnC3rial May 30 '19
Fair is fair. As a Texan myself I save it to the end. Definitely not my starter but if I have room in my stomach and sauce at the end of the meal, I'll dip.
9
-2
u/Graawwrr May 30 '19
If you don't have enough room at the end for soppin' you need to increase your stomach space.
35
u/adotfree May 29 '19
either make a sammich with the meat or use it to sop up any meat and sauce juice left after you demolish the meat
11
u/blerch_ May 30 '19
It's a palate cleanser mainly, helps with the greasy food. And you can dip it in the sauce if you have some left. Or makeshift sandwich if that's your thing.
6
u/the_hoptimist May 30 '19
I heard someone describe the white bread at bbq places as “edible napkins “. Pretty accurate.
3
u/lamada16 May 30 '19
As a Californian, thank you for asking this question. I had always wondered but never asked, lol.
2
u/Briyaaaaan May 30 '19
Usually just whatever meat you want and BBQ sauce. Pickled jalepenos, pickled onions and pickled carrots too sometimes.

1
u/chadi34 May 30 '19
Don't listen to any answers but this: you put apricot preserves on it. Lots of apricot preserves.

u/B4ZO May 29 '19
U/dukeGrizzly OP you need to hit up Pecan Lodge in Deep Elum! Best BBQ I’ve ever had. Came over from Louisiana when I lived there & I swear I have dreams about the stuff!
1
u/DukeGrizzly May 29 '19
I'll check it out. I love BBQ. Gonna check out Tender Smokehouse this Friday. Can't wait!
1
u/Sober_n May 29 '19
Tender is super good! they actually started over in Prosper, the frisco location is their 2nd store now!
Btw Pecan Lodge is definitely worth the visit

u/bgravemeister May 29 '19
Even your meat is looking over like "OH GOD THAT'S A LOT OF FOOD MAN WTF"
5
u/Ds0990 May 30 '19
Every time I see a post like this all I can think is just how normal it looks. Then I remember that not everyone lives in Texas, and I'm filled with an overwhelming sense of pity of the rest of the world.
1
May 29 '19
This meal looks fantastic all thats missing is an ice cold beer. Hopefully that beer (lone star, tecato) is just out of frame.

u/claytonmathews May 30 '19
Hutchins, my favorite. Which one did you hit the one off Preston or the one in McKinney?

Too many sides, only one meat. I’m happy for you but we wouldn’t get along ordering together at a BBQ joint.
14
u/KinkyQuesadilla May 29 '19
Too many sides, only one meat. I’m happy for you but we wouldn’t get along ordering together at a BBQ joint.
Yeah, I was fully expecting to see some sausage (no pun intended. That exact same quote is probably heard many times inside the loop at places that are NOT BBQ restaurants).
43
5
u/btroberts011 May 29 '19
I was thinking the same thing. Op went all you can eat too. You can tell because of the cardboard side dishes.
6

13
u/jonknee May 30 '19
A little bit of everything, but just one meat? That’s not a way to know what’s good.

The Brisket at Hutchins is fantastic. All sides are from scratch. These arguments justify the meat to sides ratio
2
2
u/xMrMagic May 30 '19
I'm from Texas and just want to say I would never get anything like this. I would consider it a waste of money and free stomach room for the actual bbq, aka meat.
1
u/KringlebertFishtybun May 29 '19
It's like the meat is an afterthought. Sad: fill up with pasta, potatoes, bread pudding, bread, and sauce....
1
May 30 '19
Thank you! I was expecting to see a comment like this but downvoted. BBQ is all about the meat
7
u/alrebmik May 29 '19
Heyyy. What's up from Frisco. I pass this on Preston every day going to work!
1
u/HandbrakeDisliking May 30 '19
Stay away from all of the other restaurants in that area,..
(Though Frisco Star Cafe is not bad)
1
u/Trappist1 May 30 '19
Well what's the name of this place? I'm in Addison.
2
u/radcattitude May 30 '19
This is Hutchin’s BBQ, very good. If you go be prepared to wait in a decently long line but imo it’s worth it (unlike some other places in DFW)
Also the banana pudding and peach cobbler is free if you’re eating in house!

Texas twinkie. Bacon wrapped jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and about 1/4lb of brisket. And yes it is smoked.
