Hi, I've just bought a R4 from a friend, but it seems that doesnt work, I mean I've tried multiple times but the best I've reached was just the logo on the DS Lite Screen menu, I'll link some photos, can you please help me?

Hello everyone! I've read the following guides online when setting up this old flashcart I got almost a decade from now (see image above):

The cart reads R4i ("new", on a jagged speech green bubble with red text, all caps), followed by the r4i gold cc URL, subtitled "Upgrade for DS (NDSi/NDSL/NDS)"

From these guides, I believe this cart is a clone/rebrand of the R4i Gold CC cart, which itself is a clone of the Galaxy Eagle, and that one itself a clone of the AK2i card. Given its lineage, I assumed one would opt to use the AK2 build of the pico-loader as per the compatibility table on the github repo.

However, when attempting to load Pokemon Diamond (Europe, Revision 5) and Mario & Luigi - Partners in Time (Europe) from the AK-Menu frontend, I got a black screen on my O3DS. nds-bootstrap works fine though, except for a softlock I got on M&L (addressed by this issue on the nds-bootstrap repo, yet it isn't fixed on the latest stable release on my end); which is the reason I opted into trying out pico-loader in the first place.

I would appreciate any help or pointing in the right direction for having it work on this cart. Thank you for your time!

Pico Launcher Enhanced v1.10.0 is out, and this one comes with something new: Pico Loader Enhanced, with an in-game exit. in a ds game you hold L + R + Right + Select for a moment and you're back in the launcher

this one took a while. i started on it in august, got it working on mario kart and not much else and parked it. came back to it at the end of september and since then it ate most of my free time. then the testing, my whole collection, around 180 games, one by one on a ds lite and again on a new 3ds, and the early builds on an old 3ds too. a few "broken" games turned out to be my worn d-pad or roms in pieces on the sd, so i learned some stuff on the way

it's for the dspico, ds games in ds mode. dsi-enhanced games, dsiware and homebrew don't get the exit but they play like before. i haven't tried it on a real dsi yet. the loader is a separate optional zip, if you don't want it just don't copy it

also in this one:

- delete a theme from the theme selector (#5)
- roms you open with an emulator, gb, snes and so on, count as games now. favorite, completed, delete and select + a work on them. the idea comes from djaysan's pico-launcher-dsbios (#29)
- homebrew that says dsi only, like pokemon chest, opens on a ds again (#30)
- .agb files open with their own association
- the cover tools don't error on windows when you redirect the output, and a cover cut short gets fetched again (#13, #14)

install is the same as usual: rename LAUNCHER.nds to _picoboot.nds. for the loader, copy the two .bin files into /_pico/

thanks to everyone using Pico Launcher Enhanced and opening issues, some of this came from you. still built on LNH's pico launcher and pico loader, credit for the base goes to them. these aren't official builds, so if something breaks tell me, not them

For some unknown reason, loading up WarioWare D.I.Y Showcase on my R4 cartridge or even selecting it freezes YSMenu. Anyone know why this happens?

Id also like to ask if I should use the kernel from the site? I honestly also want YS menu or Twilight++ for slight customization reasons but my main focus is speed,saving game,loading game without issues, but im not too sure how to go about downloading that for this card,like do I first use the kernel from the site and YS menu or Twilight++? Or is YS menu/Twilight++ an entire kernel in itself? Is this fully compatible with either? So many questions 😭.

Im planning to use a 32GB microSD card with it.

Unfortunately it hasn't arrived yet(so I cant show the back,or the game that loads when I put it in with an empty SD) but I am just very eager and want to be fully prepared before I even get it...which is in like a week or two!

Any help or clarification to my questions will be GREATLY appreciated as someone who's trying to ditch modern games and wants to go to DS lol.

I haven't seen much on this topic, how's the power draw on single flash cards compared to authentic carts and something like the EZ Flash ODE or EverDrive? How much battery life should I expect using a InsideGadget cart or a Chis cartridge? For reference I have a IPS screen mod and a Mahko battery. Authentic carts usually last around 7 hours for me.

I tried to use other kernels (as of the matching r4i version) and it gives an error to upgrade hardware

Recently bought a DSlite which came with its own (unbranded) R4 card. I’ve replaced the games that were already in it with my own because half of them were in Japanese for some reason.
The card worked perfectly fine for about a week, but somehow in the time it took me to go from the waiting room I was sitting in to coming home, the card has stopped being recognised.
Not sure what happened but I have tried everything I can think of:
- pushing cardboard behind card to force contact
- cleaned pins
- tried different SD card
- time is already set to 2009

I have now just bit the bullet and bought a new R4 card but I had been putting that off because installing the kernel seems scary.
This post is basically a last ditch effort to see if there is something else I can try?

I don't know what happened, but my R4 is apparently "broken"

In the first image, on my modded 2ds, the R4 showed like this, and when I open it, it gives me an simple error.

While on the DS, like in the second image, the entire screen is strange, even tho the games still somehow shows up. But when I click a game, the screen just freezes and the game doesn't open.

The only thing I can tell as extra information is that I added four games before this happen, this games being: GTA GBC, GTA 2 GBC, GTA GBA and Lego Batman 2.

I repeat myself, I really don't know how this happened or if the games are the problem, but it would be grateful if you help me.

The last two images maybe can be helpful, showing the conditions of the R4 and the SD card, even tho they seem pretty intact.

hello again all! i have an Ace3DS+ flash cart that I've set up with AceOS 2.13, and it runs NDS (both vanilla and hacks) and unmodified gba fine enough, but gba rom hacks seem to be more inconsistent. some hacks work fine (albeit a little slow/graphically glitchy sometimes), but others do not boot whatsoever and freeze on a blank white screen. I've tested the following hacks with it, mainly with GBARunner3 but from a couple of trials GBARunner2 looks to be similar:

emerald seaglass v3.0 - doesn't boot

lazarus - doesn't boot

all unmodified games - apparently work fine

light platinum v1.0 - works with minor apparent graphical glitches on title screen

gaia v3.2 - works

too many types - works

sword and shield ultimate - works

unbound v2.1.1.1 - works

theta emerald ex - works but says internal battery is dead

does anybody know why this is or if there is a way to fix it?

One of my next personal projects has been making a flash cart using a few of the same ChisFlash components but with a built in color sensor (I've been tinkering with some GBA development libraries and want to try making a game with a novel sensor built into the cart). According to problemtek documentation, GPIO for some special carts is accessible through a memory mapped region in ROM space. I'm envisioning the CPLD in the chip to sniff the address lines for addresses in a certain range and then return the value of the sensed color. To prevent any potential bus conflicting values on the data lines, I was thinking I'd like to add a gate that connects to the CPLD (as an active low signal) and ~RD pin on the cart and outputs to the ~OE lines for the S29GL256S10TFI010 and FM28V100-TG chips to put them in a high impedance state. However, I'm not entirely sure this setup would work due to potential timing issues.

What timings are necessary for the GBA to pull from SRAM or the Flash ROM without too large of delay? Would a delay of 5-6 ns for the gate to disable the outputs of those chips be long enough to cause issues?

Are there any other design considerations I'd need to consider moving forward with designing this cart?

i got this 23 in 1 pokemon cartridge/flashcart online awhile back (not sure of the flashcart model or anything, not much identifying information on it), i already have the contents dumped and backed up ofc but want to use it to play rom hacks/fan games. ive done so for a couple games by uploading the roms onto the sd card that came in it, but there's such limited space on that sd card that i cant fit much more onto it. i copied the contents the card to a larger microsd (64gb) w just a simple drag and drop, and added a few more games to it but when i put it back into my 3ds it just gives an SD/TF Card error. does anybody know what could be causing this?

My R4 is the SDHC Gold, and I tried formatting the Micro SD to FAT32, transferring the up to date official firmware, and for YSMenu I’ve tried RetroGameFan’s R4 SDHC and R4i SDHC, and Anton Retro’s pack. Even if I only used the bare official files I still get this error.

I bought this flashcard a couple of years ago to run ntrboot and ended up selling the 3DS system I repaired. I forgot to clear ntrboot from the cart, but I want to use it on my DS Lite now. Since I have an extra 2DS available, how can I restore the flashcard to normal?

I have this flash card and this SD, both of them work but certain games dont run on my dsl, games like zelda phantom hourglass (spirit tracks does), the others Inazuma eleven (except the first game) don't run ; the screen goes white.

I wanna download a new kernel or something to see if i can fix this, but i will do it on a new SD.

Does anyone know if it's a problem to use different SD cards to play certain games? If there's a problem in changing SDs or systems?

i've been trying to get twilight menu to work on my DS Lite, but with no success. i certified to install the correct version of the firmware and the correct booting option, but it still loads up the r4 menu.

we can see that the twilight menu appears in the files, but it loads indefinetely when i try to open it, also not booting automatically as i wish it would.

any advice on how to fix this? thank you guys!
