Water damage in bay window

Post image

Hi all. A relative’s blinds fell down about a year back and revealed this beneath it. One thing lead to another and repairs got put off time and time again, and at this point im not sure where to start.
My question is who should I even contact to fix it, and what can I do in the meantime? Apologies if this is a no-brainer! im totally new to this and out of my depth…

Probably a roofer, and a drywall guy. Might be a different story, this is my best guess.

You can start yourself and eliminate guesswork. Remove drywall and inspect the area. A 2 ft hole is justas easy to repair as a 1 ft hole, and only slightly easier to fix than a 4 ft hole. Sheets of drywall are 4x8 ft so contain your project smaller if possible.

Take lots of pictures.

The real source of water is possibly the flashing where the window bay roof ties into the house wall. The source may be elsewhere.

Apply a mold remediation product as necessary.

The first thing to do would be to cut out that section and see if you can identify where the leak is coming from so you can stop that.
