News Google Health app 5.11 update - Oct 2026
Hello Google Health Community,
We’re excited to announce that version 5.11 of the Google Health app is rolling out starting today! The rollout will continue over the next week in phases depending on carrier and device. With your feedback, we are committed to continuously improving the Google Health app, and this release builds on improvements from the prior releases.
Software versions Android: 5.11 iOS: 5.11
What’s Included
New Health Guardian Features for Fitbit Air
New Health Guardian features are starting to roll out for Google Fitbit Air users with Google Health Premium membership. Learn more about the new features here so you can stay on top of your health.
If you have a Fitbit Air (or a Fitbit Edge once it’s available on October 27) and a Google Health Premium membership, you will be able to set up the new features in app version 5.11 and receive your first monthly health summary at the beginning of November. Once you receive your report, you’ll also be able to see your new metrics and trends in the Health tab.
Blood pressure trends, which allow you to track blood pressure patterns before they can put strain on your heart, will be available in the Health Guardian section of the Health tab if you’ve worn your Fitbit Air for 5 or more consecutive days in October.
Insulin resistance trends, which track monthly shifts in your metabolic health, will be available if you’ve worn your watch for 7 or more days and nights in October.
Improved Automatic Activity Tracking
We’ve improved automatic activity tracking so it’s more intelligent, accurate, and reliable. These updates are now available for Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5 users and will be available with Fitbit Edge when it’s available on October 27,
Tracks more activities: We expanded the number of activities your Fitbit tracker or Pixel Watch can detect from 10 to up to 100, including strength training, swimming, and racket and team sports.
Uses more context: Powered by contextual reasoning, we now factor in more context — including your workout routines, historical data, manual edits — to deliver nearly 2x more accurate detections and cut missed workouts by more than half.2
Logs workouts automatically: Workouts that meet your minimum duration threshold (15 minutes by default) with a sustained elevated heart rate are automatically logged, and a summary is sent to the Google Health app, typically within 30 minutes.
Learns your patterns: When you confirm or edit an activity, you’re improving a feature that learns your unique patterns and uses them to refine its predictions.
More Options for Glucose Tracking
Updated naming: Blood glucose is now called Glucose throughout the app. Check for updates to your charts and graphs.
Custom time-in-range goals: You can now set specific time-in-range goals for glucose data from connected continuous glucose monitors. To set a goal, go to the Metabolic section of the Health tab, tap Glucose, open Settings, and select Set goal.
Faster syncing with Lingo by Abbott (US only): You can now connect Lingo by Abbott directly to the Google Health app so your glucose data syncs faster — displaying in the Google Health app within 30 minutes of a reading. If you have a Google Health Premium membership, Google Health Coach³ can also answer questions about your glucose trends. To connect, tap your profile icon in the Google Health app and select Partner Apps.³
Improved Sleep Tracking
More accurate awake detection: We’ve improved our sleep tracking to better factor in your steps data so that we can more accurately track short awakenings, like getting up to use the bathroom.
Easier nap editing: You're always in control of your sleep data. If a nap ever shows up that doesn't match your day, you can now easily remove it directly from your nap card.

Discussion Yes it does no it doesn't yes it does ... Fitbit Air and breathing quality
The three Health Guardian features (blood pressure trends, blood glucose trends, breathing quality) were initially listed for Fitbit Air when announced.
Then it was rolled back to only blood pressure and glucose.
In the Google Health app under sleep breathing quality it says "not available with this device".
Today, I've had the email about Health Guardian and it has finally appeared under Settings. But look at this screenshot. It says all three features are available if I upgrade to Premium. I could also have ECG "available with a device upgrade".
But apparently the "sleep breathing quality" doesn't need a device upgrade. Well done Google, such a great service.
Edit: I subscribed, and the breathing quality immediately moved to "available with device upgrade". Ok well that's straight to a complaint and refund.
Edit2: Refund immediately approved and processed. Now breathing quality has moved back to "available with premium" again. FFS Google you bunch of useless cunts.

Discussion the sleep score on my fitbit is making me more anxious about sleep not less
got my fitbit partly for sleep tracking and honestly wish i hadnt started. every morning i check the score and if its below 80 my brain decides im tired regardless of how i actually feel. its like the number replaces my own sense of how i slept. the worst part is lying in bed knowing its tracking me. like i can feel myself trying to fall asleep harder which obviously makes it worse. anyone else deal with this? did you turn off sleep tracking entirely or find a way to just not look at it? i like the step counting and workout tracking but the sleep part might be doing more harm than good
Tech Support Fitbit Edge set a timer while working out
Hey there. I received my Edge and I’m really liking it.
I have one question, though—I’m probably being dumb. How can I set a timer while a workout is active?
I need this for resting sets during weight training

Discussion Fitbit thinks I’m sleeping when I watch a show or doom scroll reels in bed
Apparently I got in some REM while I was watching The Haunting of Bly Manor in bed lol!! Does anyone else have this issue? Is it just because I’m not really moving? Or maybe a combo of stillness and my BPM lowering? I have a high resting BPM and it gets even higher when I’m standing and moving around (potentially have POTS or some kind of dysautonomia that affects my heart rate). Maybe my BPM spiking during jump scares mimics how my BPM rises when I hit REM? My poor heart health accidentally trained the Fitbit to think anything under 80 BPM means I’m asleep I guess.

Discussion Does anyone else find it annoying that Fitbit notifications block the clock?
Does anyone else find it annoying that Fitbit doesn't show the time while you're viewing notifications?
Whenever I receive a notification, I have to dismiss it to see the time. If I have five notifications stacked up, I have to press the button five times just to get back to the clock.
I wish there were an option to check the time without having to clear or cycle through every notification. It seems like such a basic usability feature. Is there a setting I'm missing, or is this just how Fitbit works?
For comparison, most smartwatches display the time in small font at the top of the screen, even when you're viewing notifications, so you can check the time at a glance without dismissing them.

Discussion Fitbit Edge Anyone got there's yet
Fitbit Edge, what are people's thoughts if they got there's? I am waiting for mine tomorrow, got the Stephen Curry 🏀 🍛 edition!
Discussion No reminders to move with Fitbit edge??
I've just switched from the charge 6 to the Fitbit edge. There is no option to set reminders to move on the Fitbit edge. What a weird omission.
Anyone else not seeing this option?

Tech Support Deleting Google Health Account / Data Warning
galleryDo not delete your google health account if you plan on re-opening one or getting a "fresh start".
Giving some context, downloaded Google Health in anticipation for the Fitbit Air back in ~May/June wanted my Garmin/Apple Health data to populate. Decided to delete the app to get a fresh start, bought the Fitbit Air this month and found out I can't login.
- Contacted Google Health Support via Phone 10/16, rep said it'll take 90 days to complete deletion
- Contacted Google Health Support via Chat 10/16, rep said he will escalate and investigate whether the error can be fixed
- Received follow up 10/17 saying since I deleted the account, I'll have to use another email; Asked rep to check again, because that doesn't seem righL
- Last follow up saying he checked all resources within the org and I have to use another account
Hope this helps to inform other people in the same boat or thinking about doing this!
If you've heard otherwise please let me know as I'm still on the fence about it. If I'll have to open another gmail just to use the band I might just stick to Garmin/Apple watch... or even worse Whoop LOL

Discussion Fitbit edge nearly made me dead deaf
WHAT??
Jk. But somewhat seriously, I had my earphones in (pixel buds pro) then used my Fitbit edge to find my phone and got blasted. My phone didn't ring and the sound was only played through the earbuds. ouch! be careful. I'm pretty sure when I use my pixel watch to find my phone while using cuz
buds it doesn't do that ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Self Promotion i was scared a big fitness company would sue me for copying their scores, so i made every score open and editable instead
gallerynot the main point but i am really hopeful that this will benefit fitbit users a lot. idea is when i started building recovery, strain and sleep scores, the math didn't worry me much. what worried me was getting a letter from one of the big wearable companies. their scores are black boxes, and anything that looks like a copy of a black box is asking for trouble.
so i went the other way. none of the scores in FitnessRec are black boxes:
- every score (sleep, recovery, strain, stress, biological age) has an algorithm breakdown: which of your numbers it used, each step of the formula, and the papers it's based on
- don't like my formula? rebuild it in flow studio. pull in your own data (fitbit, other watches, food diary, labs), write the formula, pick a gauge or chart, and pin it to your diary
- the card you build can sit on your home screen as a widget, and every card has a share image (pics 3 and 4)
"why isn't it open source then?" two reasons:
- people share flows and workout programs with each other: they send them in chats and post them to a feed. that needs accounts, a server and moderation, so you can't really self-host it
- reading fitbit data through the google health api for anyone other than yourself means passing google's restricted-scope verification plus a yearly CASA security assessment. with a self-hosted copy, every person would have to go through that themselves. i passed it this month so you don't have to
so the code is closed, but the scoring is open: you can see how every number is made, and you can change it.
free: the daily scores and their breakdowns, building and running your own flows, one pinned card. gold adds more pinned cards, widgets and AI steps in flows.
iOS, Android, web and desktop (windows, Mac, linux) : https://fitnessrec.com
tell me which score feels off, or show me a flow you built. happy to help wire one up.

Discussion Fitbit Edge: Steph Curry band faulty on arrival. Check yours.
Howdy - as per the title.
I had the Fitbit Edge Steph Curry edition on pre-order, together with 2 extra straps - the magnetic one, and the metal links one. I gently took the Steph Curry band off, as per the instructions, by using the two lug release switches. It sort of came off really in a spongey way, bit weird. I put the metal links one on, clicked in without issue, firm and nicely connected. I adjusted my links band, then I tried the magnetic strap - again the metal links band released sturdily and well, and the magnetic band clicked in as firmly. I tried the Steph Curry band again, and it's just not connecting at all. I've blasted it with compressed air in case theres something stopping it, but honestly, it feels like a fault.
I'm on the case with Google, but thought I'd share in case anyone else has experienced the same. The band looks normal - no issues, breakages or wear - it just won't go in. Worried it is a manufacturing defect...

Discussion Fitbit edge does not have a workout only always on display
I just found that out, which kinda sucks.
You can enable always on display for the watch overall in Google health, it'll do the same dimming that always on did for the Charge 6.
You can set always on hours, at least.

Discussion Illness Detection
I know some devices are good and showing signs that your body may be fighting an illness. Has any seen success with this with their Fitbit or Google health?
Discussion Fitbit Edge: Anyone else not receiving notifications on iPhone?
Just got my Fitbit Edge today, and notifications are not working at all. No incoming calls, no app notifications, nothing.
I'm using an iPhone 17 Pro. All permissions are enabled, the app is up to date, and health data syncs perfectly fine.
Apparently, 9to5Google, MobileSyrup, and Stuff have all reported similar issues. Google has reportedly acknowledged the problem and promised a future update. One reviewer managed to fix it with a factory reset and re-pairing, but that's not guaranteed.
Honestly, it's ridiculous that a brand-new $180 device can't handle basic notifications out of the box. I'm not interested in factory-resetting something I literally just bought.
Is anyone else experiencing this, and has anyone found a fix without resetting the device?
