Got my first ticket system response today, and I was not surprised ...
that it has a response from Find A Grave, but it has just one or two sentences of what I put on the ticket. I literally have no idea which issue this is related to. I had to reply to the message and ask them to send me the original details. We'll see if they reply with that information.

General Rant Mistakes Will be Made
Or, the map is not the territory.
I fulfilled a request recently and informed the requestor that 'here is the stone, but the person's name is not on it.'
A couple of hours later - working on a different stone in the same section - I discover that the name I fulfilled and the names on the stone are listed as two, different plots, one row over and four plots down.
I feel bad about telling someone "I found it; well maybe I didn't" and then they have to wait until the next time I get back to the cemetery.
But mistakes will be made.
This cemetery is very big, 90% photographed, and the majority of requests now find empty plots or family stones but not with the name requested.
A big advantage at this cemetery is that there is an excellent online directory, tied into a good mapping program that shows the position of the grave and allows you to check for all of the names in the plot and investigate neighboring plots.
But, big disadvantages are:
- If the name isn't in the online directory you might as well not even try.
- If the name is in the directory but not the map, you aren't going to succeed without talking to the office e.g., I had a nice office person tell me that there have been three (or more) sections A in the last 150 years and so I need to look in this area rather than today's section A.
If the name is in the directory and there is a map, you still might not find it because the people who made the map made some simplifying assumptions.
If the section consists of 8 rows of 100, 4-ft by 9-ft graves, the draftsman drew an 8 by 100 grid of 4' by 9' boxes on the map. If the majority of the plots were 3'6" instead of 4 feet, at the end of the 100 plots your position is off by 50 feet. If there is an offset between row A and row B, the draftsman assumed it was a multiple of 4' where in reality it could be any whole and any fraction of a plot width. Depending on where the pattern was anchored, the maximum error might be seen at one end, the other, or both ends. And then there is the fact that the rows curve. There are portions of the map that shows graves outside of the property.
I've learned all of this at the expense of a lot of time. I would start my search from a known feature, such as an intersection, and fail. Or count off 100 plots, estimating empty plots, to discover I'm off by a number of plots.
Now when I go to the cemetery I have two screenshots, showing section and a detail of plots within the section, plus a list of all names in the plot I'm looking for and all names in the plots to north, south, east, and west.
But this time I didn't have all of the names - because I was in a big-monument section - and I mis-counted rows because sometimes the first row are flat stones and sometimes not.

How do I..? Buried in Two places
I recently documented a grave from 2022 from a a family with very old root in my town. When I went to connect her to her parents I found she was already connected to her parents from a grave in the state where she died. The woman who passed in 2022 and her spouse (who also has a stone in local cemetery ) have another set of graves. It’s definitely the same people. I have not linked to the family but curious if anyone has run into this and how/ if you linked them to their family?

How do I..? Is there a guideline regarding linking parents to monuments/cenotaphs when there is a memorial for the actual burial?
I have a manager who refuses to remove the links to the parents on a monument memorial. So, since there's an actual burial memorial, the man shows as being his own brother.
Is there a guideline that addresses this that I can link?

Can’t search for cemetery in iOS app
FIXED - not sure why but now at 9:15 pm ET it started working as normal. ???
For the last day I’ve been unable to search for a cemetery using the iOS app. When I complete the fields and click on Search the app locks. I’ve tried restarting my iPhone. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app.
If I go out to a browser I can search that way but I want it to work in the app. Screen shot is attached of my Search button “locked up”

OK, I can confirm the new ticket system is a failure
I went through and found an e-mail I sent on August 21 that I got a reply to saying they had opened a ticket.
Obviously, that's more than two months ago.
The automated ticket e-mails say, "To add additional comments, reply to this email." So I did, asking for an update. I got an automated response that says:
Thank you for contacting Find a Grave. We’ve opened ticket number (entirely different ticket number than the original) to track your request. To add additional comments, reply to this email.
We noticed you reached out to our support team via the email address: [famous@findagrave.com](mailto:famous@findagrave.com). We encourage our members to fill out our contact us form found here.
Using this form ensures our team is provided all the information we need to properly process your request, and allows for quicker response times.
We will get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, please check out our support site, which has detailed instructional articles and answers to frequently asked questions. We look forward to assisting you!
Sincerely,
Find a Grave Team
findagrave.com
So, not only can you not see what your original "ticket" detailed, but they don't even have it set up where you can actually reply with additional details, inquries, etc. It just creates another ticket.

How do I..? Etiquette question
If I have an obituary stating where someone is buried but their grave isn’t listed in that cemetery on the site yet, is it the right etiquette for me to create a memorial and request a photo? Reading some people’s bio they are very strict about adding memorials. I’m nowhere near Seattle so not something I can check myself.

serendipity
I love it when I look up someone who is (mildly) famous in my area, and their page is up for grabs. Then I can write the bio myself.

Why was my memorial deleted after someone created another one?
I've maintained a close relatives memorial for a few years now. He wasn't in a cemetery because we weren't sure where we were going to bury him. Decided on a veteran's cemetery and they put a little memorial obituary out on the day of the service (which hasn't happened yet). Someone created a memorial for him 5 days ago and mine got deleted. I even had him marked as a close relative and linked to his parents and siblings. Not sure how this happened. Only noticed last night when I was going to update the burial info. I messaged fg and the memorial creater.

How do I..? Adding a memorial for someone interred with another person and no stone.
I'd like to add the spouse of a close family member. Her husband died several years before she did and was cremated. Upon her death, his remains were added to her casket and interred with her. The stone only mentions her per their requests.
Should I add him and just mark cremation without a location? Should I add him to the cemetery without a photo (or use her stone's photo?)
I'm not sure of the proper etiquette here. I don't believe he was registered in this old church's logs as being buried there regardless.
Thanks!

Find a Grave mismatch?
Can I get a little help from any California experts out there?
My 1st cousin 3x is Edward Robert Carl Herman Meyer born 21 Dec 1898 in Paullina, IA and died 5 Aug 1969 in Los Angeles County.
Normally this is enough for me and I move on but there is a Find a Grave page https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/286337974/edward-robert_carl_herman-meyer with a photo of a headstone with the right years but also a wife named Henrietta C. that I have no records of.
I have a hard time finding any obituaries in California for whatever reason. Can anybody find one for him? I need to see if he did indeed marry a Henrietta later or if somebody matched him incorrectly on Find a Grave.
Thank you!

I’m looking for information about the death of a family member. Kathy Jo Babcock, New York, late 1970s
hello! if you have even clicked my post, thank you.
Im looking for any information about the life, death, or burial location of ”Kathy Jo Babcock”. she is my dad’s sister who was sadly robbed of her life at about 2-3 years old by their biological parents. my dad and uncle were adopted out after this to my lovely grandparents. because of this there isn’t much info available to surrounding her life at all.
I know that my dad was born in 1976, he had a sister who was around 2-3 years old at the time in which she lost her life due to child abuse in the state of New York. she was in the child welfare system.
Historically, my online searches of her name have elided no information, so I am turning here. Reddit, can you help me find Kathy Jo Babcock?

Friendly reminders
So I'm getting oodles of friendly reminders from Admin to complete their surveys.
Can't complete their surveys because it doesn't say what contact it references.
Can't complete their friendly reminder because it still doesn't reference which contact.
So I send a reply to the friendly reminder saying that I'd do it if only I knew what I was commenting on.
I would imagine by now that Admin has got the message but still we get friendly reminders.

Hey all, does anyone happen to have a map of Montrepose Cemetery in Kingston, New York?
As the title says, just wondering if someone already has a map of it they would be willing to share. My mom has been meaning to track down the groundskeeper to ask but she has pretty bad ADHD so her project keeps getting away from her.

Is anyone else not getting notifications?
I get emails from support, but nothing else in three days. I checked settings and everything was the same.

First newborn I’ve had to bury. As a gravedigger.
Last year I buried 150+ people. I was also the machine operator for two disinterments.
All funerals are hard, but the hardest was an infant.
I have three children from three women and I haven't been allowed to be a part of their lives. It's weighed heavy on me and it's one reason I put everything into working the cemetery.
I was given the task of opening a baby grave and was told I could tap out and have someone else finish it if it was too much.
I chose to see it through.
Alone, I dug the grave and prepped the area. My partner and I laid wood across to test for the small box as they had a service.
The family was quiet, but the mother let out a cry I wish no one ever had to hear.
I've lost friends as kids to cancer and violence and heard it before. I'll probably carry that sound in the back of my head until I'm laid to rest myself.
After the funeral we cleaned up the area.
Since then the grass has grown back. The monument has been placed. The area is the best I can make it.
That night all I wanted was to talk to my youngest son who I'm still fighting for in family court.
I asked his mother if I could talk to him for a minute and was denied just hearing his voice.
I often wonder what I did in life to have to carry these burdens.
My parents abandoned me when I was 14 and I will never know when they pass. I've been kept from my children so they will never know when I pass.
So I tend the cemetery the best I can. It's now my purpose in life.
Edit: The day after that baby funeral I woke at 7am, did 100 pull-ups and 100 ab wheel rollouts, showered, and went to a calisthenics comp. I won my round, stayed to push teammates.
Later downtown we were filming content. I was drinking coffee, warming up, grabbed a handrail behind me with both arms and leaned forward. I felt both distal bicep tendons tear off the bone.
I told everyone, they did not believe me because I did not do anything. I did a few pushups and it felt weird, so I walked to the hospital. I passed out in the waiting room. They booked an MRI, and 3 weeks later I had surgery on both arms.
Photos are: both arms in slings, scars on both elbows, ER that night, and the comp that morning.
The cemetery part is still true. I still tend that grave.
Post 2 to 3 photos only, the double sling and the scar close up

App updates
At first I was happy to see the updates to the app that allow for filtering memorial search within cemeteries. Missing Photo, Missing GPS etc. seem like they would be very helpful.
However, the new filter options take up most of the screen. On a phone, there is only a tiny bit of space left to view the memorials. It is difficult to see even a full name all at once. Scrolling through multiples is frustrating.
Also, my phone battery crashed fast with the app open. That never happened before, so it seems like it may have been caused by the app update.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Don't do this please
This is literally in the bio of a memorial (part of the link has been removed so as not to identify the user/violate Rule #10):
Click on Each Photo for More Info .............
Click Link For All the Lost Sailors I've Found !!!
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/
Here's the better part. The memorial manager didn't even add any of the photographs, other than the marker. There are five (5) photographs. NONE of them have any description information other than the marker which simply has the inscription.

How NOT to photograph
What kind of @$$hole stands on a 276 year old stone to capture a picture for Find a Grave?

Discussion Does Find a Grave have issues with locations outside the US? (Examples from Spain)
Hi everyone!
I've noticed some issues with how Find a Grave handles locations in Galicia, Spain, and I'm curious if anyone else has come across something similar in other countries.
The problem is that some parishes seem to be listed as independent municipalities, creating duplicate or misleading entries.
Here are a couple of examples I've found:
Pontevedra Province
There are two identical entries for "Cangas, Pontevedra, Spain", even though they refer to different places:
- Cangas (Cangas de Morrazo) is an independent municipality.
- San André de Cangas is actually a parish within the municipality of Lalín.
Lugo Province
There are also two entries for "Cangas, Lugo, Spain", but neither is an independent municipality:
- San Pedro de Cangas belongs to the municipality of Foz.
- Santiago de Cangas belongs to the municipality of Pantón.
This can be quite confusing when searching for cemeteries or adding memorials, especially if you're not familiar with the area.
I contacted Find a Grave support to report these issues. I received an automated confirmation with a case number, but I have yet to hear back from an actual person.
I know it's only been a few days, but I thought I'd ask here in the meantime.
Has anyone else noticed similar problems with locations, particularly outside the US? I'm wondering if this is something specific to Spain or if the database has trouble handling administrative divisions in other countries too.
Also, has anyone successfully had this kind of error corrected? I'm curious whether support can actually fix the underlying location structure or if they only handle individual corrections.
Thanks!

Cenotaphs - Linking families or not
Good morning, folks. FG support is pretty clear that, "When both a cenotaph/monument and the actual burial exist, only add relationship links to the actual burial memorial." I suggested edits to remove links from a cenotaph and add a link in the bio to the burial memorial, and my edits were declined. Would you resubmit with a note or just move on? It seems pretty clear cut to me, but I can be pretty stubborn.

The stone cutter did not notice his error
Found this while doing some research, something is off! Not sure if the stone cutter made the error or the paperwork was incorrect.

Discussion Do you use Findagrave for research?
I take photos and add them to FG. I also do genealogical research and have a very big family tree with my family and several offshoots.
But I've used FG very little for research.
Many in my family have been covered by other researchers and left many records. On checking FG, most also have memorials and photos. Overall, I believe FG has given me one date for a family member and discovered one second cousin I didn't know about (a surprise, they were buried in the same cemetery as my parents).
The most information I have gotten from FG was tracking one of my offshoot families - my grandmothers first husband, not my grandfather - and that is largely because there were only three families that came over to the new country and retained their, unique, surname.
