Guide for legit checking Winning Gloves [other]

Because a lot of people seem to need help legit checking laced winning boxing gloves, i thought it would be helpful to make a detailed and definitive guide/checklist with things to look out for in legit checking winning gloves.

Following i refer the 8-10oz lace as fight gloves and 12oz and above as training gloves.

Laces: The laces should be round with cut off tips. But could have been replaced.

Liner: The Liner should be navy blue

Tag: Comes with this Japanese tag when new

Box: When new also come with the Winning Cardboard-Box

Size-Indicator: Size-indication is inside and on the grip-bar only. They never have a tag on the outside of the glove.

Left: fakes, right: original

These mentioned above are the most common checking methods. But seeing the quality of replica clothes/shoes i think all of those would be quite easy to copy/have been copied already.

Airholes: Laced Winning boxing gloves do not have airholes. Velcro 8oz and 10oz have 3 Airholes under the gripbar.

Left: original, right: fakes

Lace-Hole-Count: Winning boxing gloves have following lace-hole-count:
fight gloves: 5 / Training gloves: 7

Left-Top: Training gloves, left-bottom: Fight gloves, right: Fakes

Patch: Font is thinner on rounded areas of the letter (exp. Bottom part of the «W», top part oft he «n») and does not have the same thickness everywhere. In comparison you can see the fakes have the same thickness throughout.

Left: original, right: fakes

Wrist: Fight gloves have a straight wrist, while the training gloves have two bumps (a smaller and a bigger one with the same thickness). The fakes seem to have a thicker smaller bump. The wrist also should be about 1/3 of the length and the hand part the remaining 2/3. The fakes seem to almost seem half/half.

Left: original, right: fakes

Stitching: The stitching has a «wide pattern». For example the same width has relatively little holes and longer string-parts, while the fakes have way more holes.

Left: original, right: fakes

Shape:

The overall shape should not look blocky or ballooney.

Top: original, bottom: fakes

But should still maintain a sharp edge (on the training gloves)

You can see a clear edge on the training gloves

from the side-view the training glove should be pretty flat, not bulbous and seem to have almost the same thickness throughout the glove. The fight gloves are a little bit more bulbous.

Left: fight gloves, right: training gloves

Left: original, right: fakes

Palm: The hole on the the palm side is not perfectly round, it should slightly be slanted towards thumb.

Left: original, right: fakes

Thumb: The training gloves should have S-shaped/Hook-Shaped thumb, while the fight glove is a little bit straighter, but should still curve at the tip. The fake training gloves usually have a C shaped or a straight thumb.

Left-top: training gloves, left-bottom: fight gloves, right: fake

Thumb-Strip: Is black on all basic colorways

Leather-Quality: The leather should be grainy and not look «flat» and maybe contain some imperfections. The «flat» leather is most of the time a glove from pakistan.

see other pictures also of the originals

Price: Use common sense. If a winning gloves is new and priced $100, it probably won't be orignal.

Bonus: To clarify the misconception, i would like to mention, that the training- and the fight-gloves have the same padding (according to Kataoka from Winning).

I hope this guide will help people new to this sub and don't have to post a legit check every 5 minutes and if so, we can refer to this guide.

Please comment below if i have to correct something/add something. Thanks

Hello everyone,

The past week I bought a pair of Nike Hyper KOs 2.0, see the picture. Length wise, they fit pretty good however it does feel tight. Does anyone know if they open up overtime as in if it gets wider? Thank you for your input.

Have a great day!

Damn! Now I get why these have the reputation they do. Obviously totally different gloves but these are next galaxy compared to my HGPs. These feel so dang nice and are a much more accommodating fit compared to the HGP. Who would’ve thought you should buy a Mexican style glove, not a knock off of a Japanese one, from a Mexican manufacturer? Lol.

Better get better at boxing so I don’t become the dude with all the gear who sucks bc these things may have really set the boxing glove rabbit hole off lol. These things just feel great.

Question/Help All rounder boxing glove recommendations (except sparring)

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey guys, looking for some advice on glove size for all levels boxing classes.
I’m 181cm and 80kg. I started out doing Muay Thai for about 2-3 months about a year ago and have started boxing recently, so I’ve been using my 12oz Twins Special gloves in class. I’ve done boxing on and off over the years, but I’ve been going a lot lately and really enjoying it.
I’m currently dealing a little bit of a wrist and finger strain after a heavy bag session soo I’ve been having a few days off the gym until that’s fully healed. I know fixing my technique on the bag is the main thing, but I don't think the short Thai cuff and flexible wrist support are helping when hitting heavy bags. I am a beginner soo I know my technique may not be the best but I do always try to focus on technique over power. These gloves are great quality and were awesome when I was doing Muay Thai but ofc with boxing I’ve been throwing a lot more punches and feel like I could really benefit from an actual boxing style glove.

We don’t always do bag work in a session sometimes we’ll do live partner drills or something else. But I’d like to only have two pairs of gloves in my bag to be honest, one that can do everything in a class and then my sparring/ contact drill gloves. I already bought a separate pair of 16oz sparring gloves strictly for live partner drills and sparring if I ever choose to do so, so I don't need these new gloves for sparring.

I'm trying to decide what size to get for a dedicated class glove:

Should I just look for another 12oz boxing style glove with a stiffer boxing cuff?

Or move up to a 14oz for more knuckle foam and wrist support on the bag?

Or just run a 16oz like a lot of other people in class seem to do?

My 12oz Twins are fine for pure pad sessions, but I’d love recommendations on glove sizes—and any specific brands or models with solid wrist and knuckle support—that work well as an all-rounder for classes with bag work.
Thanks!

Gear Review Formula Boxing 12oz Training Gloves

Post image

Formula Boxing 12oz Training Gloves (Horse Leather / Horween Cowhide) Review

- Price: $395 USD from formulaboxing.com

- Handmade in Chicago, Illinois, USA

- Intended use: heavy bag and mitt work

- Original design built from scratch, not a copy of an existing glove

- Horween cowhide and horse leather. Very soft and supple, and it holds up well

- Hybrid padding of quilted horsehair, memory foam, and EVA

- 5-hole lace system with thin paracord laces that glide smoothly and are easy to tighten on your own

- Waterproof ripstop poly blend liner that wicks moisture and grips your hand

- Comes with 1/8 inch gel knuckle guards

- Compact, medium-sized profile for a 12oz

- Deep finger compartment with plenty of room for long fingers

- Rough-out leather fingertip pad forms grooves to your fingers for a tight, natural fist

- Ergonomic thumb that sits correctly against the fist

- Breaks in within about 10 rounds and molds to your hand with a second-skin feel

- Actual weight: 13.4oz left, 13.2oz right

- Excellent knuckle protection, even on hard heavy bags

- Great feedback with a crisp horsehair pop on bags and mitts

- Hands feel fast and effortless, and the gloves stay locked on

- Tested over 120 rounds. Stitching and seams are flawless with no failure points

- Only minor wear: small scuffs, light lace marks, and slight sweat fading, all with zero conditioning

- Dries quickly

Pros

- Premium USA craftsmanship and materials

- Unique, well-thought-out design

- Excellent protection and feedback

- Quick break-in

- Under $500, while comparable boutique USA gloves run $500 to $900

Cons

- The grippy liner makes it harder to slide pre-tied gloves on and off

- The thumb could use a little more padding

- The price may cause sticker shock for some buyers

- Only available in 12oz for now

Verdict

- Excellent training gloves that will stay in my rotation. I would love to see a 16oz sparring version.

JKM also recently dropped one as well:

Question/Help Looking for 16 oz sparring glove recommendations

I’ve been boxing for a handful of years but have never done any actual sparring. I’m looking to step up into it now and want to get a pair of gloves specifically for sparring, rather than using my current gloves.

I currently have Fairtex BGV1 14 oz and Cleto Reyes 12 oz gloves, which I use for bag work, pad work, and some light technical partner work.

I like the fit of the BGV1, but I find they lack wrist support. I love the Cleto Reyes, but they can feel a bit tight around the thumb and hand, even after breaking them in.

I’m looking for 16 oz, leather boxing glove with an attached thumb, good wrist support, and soft padding that isn’t too hard or dense. I want something designed specifically for boxing sparring, not Muay Thai gloves.

A few options I’ve been considering:

  • Fairtex BGV5: Seems like a good option, but I’ve come across reports of the wrist area splitting. Has anyone experienced this, particularly with regular use? They also are Muay Thai gloves though.

  • Punch Mexican Elite One: Interested in these, but would like to hear how they hold up and how the padding feels for sparring.

  • Leone 1947 GOAT (GN103): Curious about the fit, padding, and overall quality.

  • Leone 1947 The Greatest (GN111): Another option I’m considering, but I haven’t found much feedback comparing them with the GOAT.

Has anyone used these gloves for regular sparring? How do they compare in terms of padding, wrist support, durability, and hand compartment space?

I’m also open to other recommendations. Ideally, I’m looking for a well-made glove that will last, with good protection for both me and my sparring partners. Thanks!

I reported a leather cracking issue with my first pair after 1 boxing session.

Reported it to Tigrao immediately and promised me a new pair for free.

Waited for months and my 2nd pair came in. Immediately i used it and after 5 rounds of mitts and 5rounds bag the leather held up. No cracking

Just sharing my experience with Tigrao.
Thank you!

Question/Help 12yr old starting muay thai, need guidance on appropriate gear.

I'm looking for input on quality gloves and shin guards for an up and coming pre-teen who's gravitated quite nicely to muay thai kickboxing. I don't want to get bottom of the barrel budget garbage that might last him a couple weeks and need replaced, but I also don't want pro/competition level gear either(because let's face it, kids change their mind. and that's fine). Looking for that sweet spot of good quality at a reasonable price. I've tried looking on my own and there's just so much available that I'm completely lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

About him:
12 yr old
5'5"
140lb

Has been using house equipment at the school/gym for several weeks. Seems medium adult is good for him on shin guards and he's quite comfortable with the 16oz gloves they have for loaners.
