Need help choosing an EV, finding a home charger, or understanding whether you're eligible for a tax credit? Vehicle and product recommendation requests, buying experiences, and questions on credits/financing are all fair game here.
Generally speaking, electric vehicles imply a larger upfront cost than a traditional vehicle, but will pay off over time as your consumables cost (electricity instead of fuel) can be anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 the cost. Calculators are available to help you estimate cost — here are some we recommend:
Tell us a bit more about you and your situation, and make sure your comment includes the following information:
[1] Your general location
[2] Your budget in $, €, or £
[3] The type of vehicle you'd prefer
[4] Which cars have you been looking at already?
[5] Estimated timeframe of your purchase
[6] Your daily commute, or average weekly mileage
[7] Your living situation — are you in an apartment, townhouse, or single-family home?
[8] Do you plan on installing charging at your home?
[9] Other cargo/passenger needs — do you have children/pets?
If you are more than a year off from a purchase, please refrain from posting, as we currently cannot predict with accuracy what your best choices will be at that time.

Statistics out of Sweden show that gas powered vehicles were likely to catch fire 19 times more often electric vehicles. And yet how often do you see newspaper headline saying what a danger ICE vehicles are? It's so common that is simply not news. But if a single electric vehicle fire for any reason, it seems to be headlines all around continent.
So with that in mind, here's an article about a whole bunch of gas powered vehicles burning up.

What about you also the same bias?

some of you may be interested in my article on an exceptional iX3 trip last week. At normal UK speed limits and traffic speeds, my iX3 50 managed 573 miles from London to Inverness last week or 924km. what’s more it had enough range left to continue on for a total of over 1,000km from London. Not only that, the key Ionity hub that I used in Edinburgh only had 350 kW chargers.
The combination of immense range along with the ability to recharge from 2% to 58% in just 15 minutes is outstanding

TL;DR: Croatia's environmental fund opened a €20M EV subsidy for private buyers. It's designed so anyone can reserve up to €9,000 with a PDF quote and walk away with zero consequences. The fund is now begging households not to file multiple applications for the same car, and it has delayed the opening twice, the second time with less than a day's notice.
Some context for non-Croatians: Croatia's Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund (FZOEU) runs the national EV purchase subsidy. This year's call for private individuals (EnU-2/26) has a €20M budget. It pays up to €9,000 per car, or €7,000 if the car costs over €35,000, capped at 40% of the price. The Fund expects to subsidise about 3,000 cars. It's officially a measure under Croatia's National Energy and Climate Plan, i.e. part of how Croatia meets its mandatory EU energy-savings target.
Here's how it's set up:
So it's a free option on €7-9k, valid for a year and a half, first come first served. The only safeguard in the Q&A is that the Fund "recommends" applying only if you genuinely intend to buy. It says this four times. An applicant even flagged this exact risk in the Q&A (#11). The answer: unused money stays with the Fund and it'll decide what to do with it later.
Then the launch:
Reasons given: "extremely high interest", "questions about preparing the required documentation", and "additional testing of the eFZOEU system". The documentation is four files, two of which are the Fund's own forms.
In the same announcement, the Fund "calls on citizens to submit only one application per vehicle, i.e. that multiple members of the same household don't file separate applications for the same car", because "the goal is not to get as many applications as possible". And depending on interest, "the possibility of securing additional funds will be considered".
They built a free lottery and are now surprised the whole household is buying tickets.
Likely outcome: the money gets allocated within minutes on 5 Nov, a chunk of it to people who will never buy, and it stays locked up until 2028. People actually buying an EV now get nothing.
Source (Croatian): FZOEU announcement of the delay

Saw this on another thread and got me thinking. Who all has experienced “EV hate” from random drivers? Any fun stories? I have seen it twice that I can confirm the EV was the reason they were upset in the last year I’ve been an EV driver. I would never go back to gas for a daily driver.
FWIW I drive a Cadillac Lyriq.
-Cadillac, MI- younger (redneck) guy in an old Chevy Malibu with an exhaust kit flipped me off, cut me off and yelled something about being a tree hugger. I had 4 passengers in the car and all confirmed I was not driving in any manner that would have upset anyone.
-Kroger Livonia, MI- a guy in an old Dodge Caravan yelled something and then raced to park over the only open charger spot (I live in the area and have home charging and did not need it). I think this guy was not all all there….

Edit- I managed to get through to a human at Octopus (🤔) and refunded me for the charges. Don’t know why it happened, though.
—-
I plugged my car into a Total Energies bay in London. I was on about 40% battery.
Everything connected and the light on the charger turned blue. Octoplus app accepted the charge.
I was waiting for a hospital appointment and noticed that it was still on 0KW of charge so I went back to my car and tried again.
Charger turned blue, app happy with it all. Went back to my appointment.
Still no charge on my car.
I’ve just logged into my account and they’ve charged me an idling fee, despite my car being corrected connected but there being some fault with the charger.
I can’t get past the autobot on the Electroverse app and I can’t find any contact details for Totals Energies in their website.
Any advice on how to sort this out please?

I keep running into the same misconception about EVs, and a lot of people still seem to believe them a decade later. It’s that the battery dies after, X amount of years and leaves you with a $15-20k bill. According to consumer surveys, between 26-56% of car buyers believe the myth Only 2.5% of EVs ever need a full battery replacement. Most EVs also come with at least an 8-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty, which is longer than the roughly 5 years on a typical gas powertrain. Batteries usually last 8 to 15 years, and they lose range gradually rather than simply failing. What I'm really curious about is where exactly did this misconception come from?

Let's assume a full on blue tsunami. What changes do you think can happen in regards to EV policy?
