BMW Roof box

I love my roof box but gosh dang it makes my car get shitty mpg. Recently took a 1200 miles road trip and it averaged 20 mpg.

525i touring converted to 530i touring!

I don’t think it’s the roof box.

I mean, it surely doesn’t help, but it won’t tank economy by itself

Missing underbody panels probably have more of an impact

Something else is wrong. On my ski trips with 528i e39 sedan with roofbox i averaged 8-8.5l/100km (27-29mpg) on harsh winter conditions. Without roofbox maybe 0.5l lower consumption.
