Been living in South Park for a year now, and I’m getting emotionally tired of seeing so much human depravity on a daily basis. I’ve seen things here that I never saw growing up in my impoverished home country. Each day, I walk to work near 7th and Metro, and it feels like at least 30% of the people I pass are addicts, homeless, mentally unstable, etc.
I actually like living downtown. South Park is convenient for my lifestyle, I can walk to work, and I enjoy being in the middle of the city. I don’t really want to move, which makes it all the more frustrating.
I rarely feel unsafe, but just seeing this stuff in your face every single day is exhausting. I don’t want to close my eyes to reality, but I’m getting to the point where I don’t just feel sad - I get angry, especially when I’m already having a bad day.
It’s so jarring going from my nice little apartment or office to stepping outside and seeing people openly smoking meth or masturbating on the sidewalk. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that being a normal part of everyday life.
I don’t really have a point here. Just a tired rant. How do you keep it from getting to you?

Zankou? CCC? Danny Boy's?
I don't feel like cooking tonight.

I'm told that the girls dance there but this is not a strip bar and that they'll actually talk to you for an hour if you pay them for their time. I'm just trying to get some more insight on this

I’m moving to an apartment near 5th and spring/broadway that doesnt have parking. So Im looking for a nearby monthly parking spot. I’ll mostly bike or walk to work, so I need to be able to leave my car parked during the day and sometimes for several days at a time. Im considering the Joes auto park at 530 S. Spring, but the google and spothero reviews seem pretty different. Does anyone park there monthly or have any expereince with other nearby garages? Would appreciate recommendations, current rates, and any issues either security or access. Thanks!

Walked past two weeks ago and it looked very close. Glad to see we're less than a month away.

This is a practical guide for people confused by parking meters in downtown. They may seem confusing, but they're actually very easy to decipher once you know what they mean.
Parking meters are those money-grubbing robotic bollards in front of parking spaces. Not all parking spaces have an actual parking meter- sometimes you can park for free, but you are still required to follow all posted restrictions like time limit and anti-gridlock zones. ALWAYS READ THE SIGNS FIRST.
(Please refer to the posted image with the details below):
This means it is ILLEGAL to stop your car for any reason (park, pull over, not move with traffic, etc.) during the posted days/hours. You aren't allowed to get out of your car to check the meter- the sign itself is telling you YOU WILL BE TOWED AWAY IF YOU STOP THERE.
This means Monday through Friday during rush hour you cannot park there. The restriction explicitly does not apply to Saturday or Sunday.
15 Minute Parking
Mon-Fri 9am to 4pm
Saturday 8am to 8pm
➡️
This sign is when parking is "METERED." This means a time restriction (15 minutes maximum) and you MUST PAY TO PARK. The arrow points in the direction of the applicable meters.
Monday through Friday you can park here for up to 15 minutes between 9am and 4pm. You cannot pay extra to park longer- you will be ticketed if parking enforcement is watching. The meter will not let you pay for additional time beyond the 15 minute maximum. The meter will not let you pay for time if it will spill over into the anti-gridlock enforcement times.
Sunday is not mentioned. That means these times limits do not apply on Sunday.
On Saturday the red sign does not apply. Only the green sign is enforced.
You can pay to park anytime between 8am and 8pm, but only for up to 15 minutes.
On Sunday, neither the Red Sign nor Green Sign are applicable. You may park for free for any amount of time, UNLESS there is another posted restriction on the meter itself. These are rare (usually acting as passenger loading zones) but they do exist.
If neither sign is applicable, then parking is free and there is no time limit.
Free
No Time Limit
Car must be moved or the meter must be paid before the next restriction.
If you park overnight into a Monday-Friday morning, you MUST move the car by 7am.
If you park overnight into Saturday morning, you must move by 8am, or you can pay for the extra 15 minutes and move it by 8:15 (honestly that's pointless, just move by 8am).
You can park on Saturday night and leave the car there until 7am without risking a ticket/tow.

I just visited downtown LA today and both parking meters were very frustrating.
The first one I wanted it to be for 2 hours. So I increased the time for 2 hours, put in my credit card and it only gave me 35 minutes. Then I tried to add more time to it to make it 2 hours. Did it again, imputed 2 hours, put in my credit card and only got 35 more minutes. I gave up and realized I'll just come back earlier. So frustrating.
Then the next parking meter I was picking up food at a restaurant. I only put in 8 minutes at a time. It said I have until a certain time, but when I came back, before the 8 minutes, it was red already. Sooo frustrating. I have no idea what I am doing wrong.

Obviously right by the Twin Towers & The MDC but for this insane police presence and search on the side of the freeway I’m wondering if it’s anything major? Or just another day in Gotham City Los Angeles. Anyone see this?

Hey yall!! My buddies and I decided to start a Magic the Gathering social club by the name of "The Sanctuary" based in LA. We're hosting FREE biweekly events/ meet ups at local bars & breweries. Our event this week will be hosted at 6PM this Sunday (10/18) at HoneyBird in La Canada Flintridge. This is our first time in that area and we're excited to hopefully see some new faces! :) Everyone is warmly welcomed to attend regardless of power level & experience!
Please follow us on our Instagram (SanctuaryMtg) as we post all our events there & feel free to message our IG for any questions. We have multiple tables reserved for multiple pods. Hope to see yall there!! 😁😁😁

Great news. Anyone know their tags? They were tagging our historic buildings here in downtown. You should be prosecuted to the full extend of the law unless you're only tagging in alleys, abandoned properties, or putting up actual art on nondescript walls.

Is this your pup? She’s hanging out with us at 930 Mei Ling Way but I’m not sure how long we can keep her near. We are just here for CicLAvia!
Hey, I wanna check in to see locals thoughts about “cleanup” in Skid Row today.
I’m over by Sawtelle off Bundy and I’ve seen multiple homeless people I’ve never seen before and they’re so damaged they don’t even form words. I’m trying to leave my work right now and am stuck (luckily on the other side of a garage gate) but can’t leave cause of this guy moaning violently at the air. So…
This isn’t necessarily a political question (that’s not the goal) but I’ve seen some people call it a stunt already and i’m interested in seeing if anyone has the inside scoop on the upcoming voting being swayed by this in some way, too. I saw some comments on an article shared on Facebook that it only lasted two hours. Were you there? What are your thoughts? I kind of just wanna know how locals are affected across Los Angeles as well as close to skid row. Have you seen this been done before? How often? What happens? Throw in a proposal for solving homelessness I’d love to see it.
Here’s what I understand(and I just want to learn more so please expand or correct me)… Skid Row is a huge area, 56 square blocks (quoting that Netflix crime documentary about the Carlisle). There the police basically don’t even bother going. A big reason there’s so many homeless people is one- there’s rampant drug use and easy access to it along with some resources available downtown. Two it’s also where patients with no home address are released from being in a mental institutions or after being arrested ( frequently for being homeless &/or mentally ill &/or showing aggression in some way). Often people who suffer with mental illness &/or psychosis from extended drug use &/or addiction behave irrationally (don’t take meds/ continue access to the meds/ choose to be homeless) to people who don’t deal with those issues and homelessness is frequently the outcome, especially with it being so un affordable in Los Angeles.
So it’s an area that was created systematically to contain this type of behavior and illness there’s plenty of targeted outreach to that area, but there’s not some long-term solution. It seems like today was kindled by the upcoming voting next month. And I think I’m already seeing effects of people having left the area to avoid the people hunting for numbers of arrests. Which, in-part, means that across LA it just won’t be your local unhoused regulars.
As an 20syo female who works late outside of Sawtelle it really concerns me. I live just outside of Culver City by the ten and in five months I’ve probably called the cops 15-20 times because of scary homeless people breaking shit and being totally mentally unstable or wielding weapons or encampments/trespassing/ damaging property.
Sometimes I feel like I’m around a lot of darkness, but maybe I’m hyper aware (& give clothes out and food out by work) or is this all pretty much people in LA’s experience generally just cause we’ve live in a big duckin city? What do y’all do? Do you wanna plug any resources to help mentally ill or the right title in certain districts, city council to contact / other tips and resources? GIVE ME THE SCOOPS PLEASSSEE
