This was difficult! Not perfect, but my best yet.

Also replaced the CMOS battery, controller fuse, replaced the bulb, and installed a RobotRetro USB-C PSU.

I recently found a copy of Third Strike while I was traveling, which is one of my most wanted DC games. With it, I've also completed the Street Fighter series on DC, of which everything has a 3 in it.

Bonus Capcom vs SNK copies since they're basically SF games as well. I'll probably end up selling the Japanese copy now that I have them all in English to fund another DC game.

I have an arcade stick to play it with, although a couple of the buttons are a bit soft. Anyone know if there are official replacements out there? Are they difficult to replace?

My brothers and I played Power Stone 2 on the Dreamcast constantly: four of us on the couch, grabbing cacti and boxes and throwing them at each other. Nothing since has felt quite the same, and with no new Power Stone coming, I wanted to see how close I could get. It’s a rough proof of concept so far, but fun enough that I wanted to share.

Full disclosure: I’m a Senior Solutions Engineer by trade, and I built this Claude Code writing the code, while I designed and play tested it. The art isn’t AI-generated: the music is free CC0 tracks, and the characters are simple models built in code as placeholders. I wanted the game to feel right before putting real art into it.

It’s called Millionth Match. It isn’t a remake and doesn’t use anything from the original game, just a lot of love for how it felt.

What made it feel like Power Stone to me:

• Four players, small arenas, grab and throw nearly everything
• Chests that spit out weapons: a giant frozen tuna, a hammer that squashes you flat, an umbrella you float down on
• Collect 3 stones to transform and use big specials
• Stages that fight back: a sub that rams an iceberg (yes, it’s a nod), an airship deck, a castle with falling chandeliers

The big thing I added: LOYALTY mode. It’s our old house rule made real. When you’re knocked out, anyone can revive you, but then you’re on their team. When only one team is left, every revived player secretly chooses to stand down or turn on their leader. It has caused real arguments in my family, and a lot of great memories.

The CPUs also learned the game by playing thousands of matches against the built-in CPUs, which was a fun experiment.

My brothers love it, and a friend who barely plays games picked it right up.

My question for you: what do you miss most about Power Stone 2? What would you want in something like this?

What’s new

• New graphics engine: the game is now drawn by the Dreamcast’s graphics chip instead of its CPU. Busy fights should stay smooth at 60 fps.
• Music fix: fixes the music stutter at the start of stages and when moving into a new area.
• Six-button pads: six-button pads and arcade sticks (such as the ASCII pad) now map like a Mega Drive 6-button pad: A B C on the bottom row, X Y Z on the top. Standard Dreamcast pads are unchanged.
• New frame counter: the top-left counter shows game frames / drawn frames, and gaps in audio if any happen (u = all audio, m = music).

Please look out for

• Graphics: anything that looks different from build 8, such as missing or flickering sprites, wrong layering (characters behind scenery), glitched backgrounds, or the picture sitting too low or losing its bottom edge.
• Blackouts: the screen going black for a second, especially in boss fights. Note whether it happened in build 8 too.
• Red flashes: parts of the screen flashing red. A photo of what was on screen would help a lot.
• Smoothness: the counter dropping below 60/60 in fights. Note the stage and what was happening.
• Audio: any stutter, crackle or repeating sound, especially at stage starts and area changes. Note the counter’s u or m numbers if they appear. A short m right at a track start is normal.
• Controls: on six-button pads, check every button does what it should, including in menus.
• Crashes or freezes: a photo of any error screen, plus where it happened.

When reporting, please include

• the stage and area
• what you were doing
• whether it happens again in the same spot
• your setup: GDEMU or other, and controller type

Hi y’all!

I need to get my dreamcast fixed to play Caution Seaman. The ML2032 battery has died so it can’t remember the date which is essential for that game. For some reason I can only find options outside Europe which will give me an insanely high shipping rate or import taxes. Does anyone know where to get this with the base part so I can solder it back in my Dreamcast?

Also, I have another Dreamcast with a working save battery but it’s region locked. I have a disc that I have to run before I can run the game but with this one, the disc just keeps on spinning 100mph when I open it. Could it be that the lever is broken so that it doesn’t signal that the disc drive is open?? Or what else could the problem be, I can’t switch discs now :’)

Unfortunately, only Dreamcasts with issues in my collection so far 😂 wasn’t a great start

I've owned a Dreamcast for several months now, and I've run out of space for more save files. I'd like to get something that has a high storage capacity, and is reliable. I've heard of something called a 4x memory card that has much more space on it than a standard VMU, but is there a certain kind that's considered to be best for this? Is there a particular brand or model that I should be looking for? (Note: I don't necessarily need something with a screen, storage space is my primary concern here. My console is also unmodified and I do not wish to modify it.)

I tried running Gex 1 on Bleemcast (PS1 emulator for the original Dreamcast) and I got some interesting results.

Japanese Dreamcast wuth a Kaico vga cable to dell e773p, used headphones as no speakers on these. I bravely plugged my dreamcast into a nos delll crt that i literally took out the box today, its never been used before and has been in dry storage in uk for 22 years. i had low hopes its been just sitting in my house warming up for a week. i used kaico vga and omg not only did it work the picture anf scrolling from a test pattern and playing games was so brilliant. Not really got room for crt so may have to go on loft foe now, but i needed to know it worked. I really need a gamea room...

My parents refused to buy me one when they came out, telling me my N64 would suffice a few more years. My cousin got a dreamcast for Christmas 99 and I'd go round and play Sonic adventure whenever I could.

I kept all my old consoles and still play them on a CRT that I acquired a few years ago. But never had the Dreamcast until today. Facebook marketplace had a listing for one for £50 and the guy lived only 200m away from me in the next street!

I didn't bother haggling, just gave him the £50 and rushed home to set it up like an excited little kid. What I hadn't realised was that he only had RF cables with it (I didn't even know Dreamcast supported RF!) but thankfully I could still remember how to tune them in from my experience decades ago. I was actually really surprised at how good it looks, even via RF. It's only here for testing, but I'll be moving it up to my office and plugging it into a CRT monitor once the VGA cables arrive. Can't wait!
