Disneyland Resort Considering a Disney break

First of all, I must address a few things. I am aware Disneyland and other parks are a privilege to attend. 9/10 times I go I pay for the bulk of my friends/family passes or food, cause they want to go, but it’s spendy and Disney is not *their* budget priority but it’s one of mine. I happily take that on if it means going to my favorite place with favorite people.

That being said, it has gotten to a point where I can no longer reasonably take on that expense. I have had an annual pass for 11 months now, and I don’t think I will renew.

I have been going 1-2 times a year for 15+ years and finally committed to an AP. Best year ever! I went to the park 17 times over the year, making the cost well worth it in terms of ticket prices. I am always able to get really good flights (I’m in Utah) and hotel costs. $140 to fly to Santa Ana and uber is much cheaper than driving and parking. Easy! Hotels are give and take, it really depends on what amenities I’m willing to splurge on or pass on.

I stayed at the Pixar Place with my sisters last month and had a delightful time. Amazing service, love being close to the park. Expensive? Yeah, but it makes sense for proximity and the Disney bubble perks.

What is making me rethink my frequency is honestly the food prices, dynamic pricing, and lightning lane cost. It was almost $80 for my boyfriend and I to have lightning lane on a really busy day, when less than a decade ago there were fast passes for free.

I go for the snacks, not the regular food. Breakfast options are all really heavy and often greasy (yum but not how I want to spend my morning every morning there), lunch/dinner has decent choices but the cost for the quality has been so nuts! I understand costs increase and I could bring my own options. But stagnant wages for amazing cast members, lower quality food, and paying out the booty for things like lightning lane has gotten too much.

I’ve been tracking costs of things from last December and I’m surprised at the jump in one year, compared to some jumps over 3-4 years.

Is anyone else getting jaded about it because of the cost? I never thought I’d see the day that I consider not going or spending my money on Disney related things for a few years, but for the cost of two day tickets, food, one day of lightning lane, and such could’ve gone toward a vacation twice as long somewhere else. I love Disney with my whole heart but I’m sad it’s getting further out of reach. Anyone else? Or of other opinions? Would love to hear!

Walt Disney World My Blue Sky Plan for EPCOT

Before I start, I would just like to outline what I intend with this buildout. This is BLUE SKY!!! Not all of these ideas are strictly accomplishable or will happen but I thought that they would be fun to implement. Despite my blue sky buildout, most of this will be fairly reasonable when it comes to attractions I will design.

World Celebration

Spaceship Earth would get a refurb that is long overdue. The attraction would focus on how stories/myths were communicated throughout the age of human history. There would be refurbished animatronics, sets, and projections spread throughout and the ending scene would be changed. The main spine of the park would be built alongside a singular large path with trees and fountains alongside it. There would be a main fountain that would operate throughout the entire day and would be synchronised with music. A small bakery would be built to the left of Spaceship Earth.

Musicana is a traditional omnimover ride that would explore and celebrate the genres and history of music. Scenes would be about jazz, rock, classical, and almost every major music genre in the world. A waterfall mural of the most iconic musical artists would be placed outside. Connections Cafe would be renamed and have more striking interior architecture and would showcase new ways on how food is being prepared as well as celebrating cuisine. Creations wouldn’t look like a suburban mall and would have more striking architecture. A new House of Tomorrow is built alongside it and showcases the future of the house.

CommuniCore Plaza would be much different compared to the current iteration. The original concept art would be brought back to life with a park on the first level and an event space on the 2nd with firework viewing as well. The indoor portion of the 1st floor will be dedicated to a museum for Walt Disney Imagineering and robotics in general with many exhibits going over the history of the practice.

Journey into Imagination is given a whole refurb, returning the purple paint to the outside and new crystal shaped rocks spread throughout the area. The attraction is now focused on celebrating imagination and what imagination could do while including Dreamfinder and Figment a lot. The Pixar Shorts theatre would be replaced with an Inside Out show centered around Dream Production. Figment helps Joy and the others create the best possible dream for Riley by using imagination. Imageworks is also brought back in its full glory. A new garden area themed to imagination is built below the Land pavilion.

World Nature

Journey of Water would ditch the Moana theming and instead focus on the stages of the water cycle. The Seas would get a new facade that resembles a sea base and would get a refreshed interior that is more modern. Most of the Nemo theming is discarded with Turtletalk with Crush being the only remaining holdout. Oceanus takes guests through the oceans of the earth and discovers many wonders that are hidden below the waves. The dive chamber is also back.

A new pavilion is constructed between the Land and Sea pavilion and focuses on air and weather in general. This pavilion would educate guests on weather patterns, natural disasters such as tornados and hurricanes, and how to be safe during these events. The pavilion holds 2 attractions: the 1st is a dome simulator with you being in the eye of the storm and how that looks inside, the 2nd is a simulator with guests being sent out to track tornados and eventually being sucked up by one.

The Land Pavilion gets a whole new exterior similar to the original Tony Baxter concept art with several glass structures being constructed with simulated biomes within them. The inside would look less like a mall and instead a greenhouse with the theming reflecting that. A new Soarin film would focus instead on more natural wonders rather than those constructed by humans. Foodanaia is an animatronic show with sentient foods that inform guests on the benefits of eating healthy in a fun, edutainment sort of way.

World Discovery

Cosmic Rewind is given a refurb with the preshows being more cohesive and elaborate. The story is changed when the guardians are trying out a new Xandarian flight system that takes them through many different times of space. The showbuilding is also themed to the Novacorp HQ found on Xandar. The Novacorp ship at the entrance is also more ambitious and resembles the concept art more.

The Wonders of Life pavilion and the Space pavilion will be combined into one big space pavilion. Mission Space is removed and is replaced with a family-friendly kuka dark ride that takes guests to one of Jupiter's moon Europa and explores the moon and its underground ocean. The WoL pavilion is transformed into a base on Europa with several exhibits on space travel. 2 new attractions are added: the 1st is a theater show going over the history of the Cosmos and hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, the 2nd is a simulator that takes guests through the most far off planets and have to escape a black hole.

Test Track is given a more elaborate exterior and the canopy is removed to further open up the space. More theming is added to the outside track to better hide the backstage areas of the park. The Odyssey building is removed and in probably one of my biggest blue sky decisions, I have decided it would work better as a transition into world showcase with guests walking through a Mexican themed landscape along with a waterfall.
