We are the Devils Army Generals. A(us)A!

Hey /r/devils!

We are the Devils Army Generals! A team of Devils fans who represent the voice of the Devils Army through social media interaction.

We run the #Devils1stGoal guesses through Twitter as well as provide team news and game updates.

We also host viewing parties all over the state for the road games, with the first one being tomorrow in Point Pleasant.

There are a few of us here today to answer your questions, so ask away!

EDIT Ok, well we have to go for now! We all had a lot of fun and hope to get another AMA going as the season moves forward! Hope to see you guys out in Point Pleasant tomorrow, or at some of the home games!

How much freedom does the team give you guys in terms of content? Do you have to run everything through the team to get approved first?

"We have the freedom to be fans, which is why the program was started - to be "The Voice" of the fans. We don't have to run content by anyone, but we do have a general set of guidelines the way anyone representing a team/organization does." -CF

Did you guys burn all of your number 9 jerseys?

Some of us won't burn it, simply because we don't want to touch it at all.

Does anybody know who started the "KILL" chant during PK at games? I believe it started last year or maybe 2 years ago... I think its incredibly annoying, however, the Devils did have a record penalty kill last year, so I guess keep it up

EDIT

The "KILL" chant goes back to the days at the Continental Airlines Arena. It was just organized better by the Diablos.

The "KILL" chant was started by the Diablos Section. They sit in section 122. The Diablos started when a group of fans from a message board decided to all buy tickets in the same section to show active support for the Devils. After a few games, the Devils took notice of them, and asked them if they would be interested in getting season tickets in a section designated for them.

I was part of the Generals the first year it started up. It was a great experience and I regret not having enough time to do more with them.

How exactly do the Devils go about choosing Generals. Do they approach various bloggers? Do people apply?

2

u/DevilsGenerals Feb 01 '13

"They put out an application link when they are looking for new team members. Then they bring in the potential new Generals to meet with the current Generals, as well as certain team executives that run Mission Control and social media for the team and as well as an HR guy cause, well, it is still a real company after all." -SB

Do you guys happen to have the promotional schedule? Im sorry but i love free swag. Or do you know if the devils are doing another mystery puck night again?

Unfortunately, with the lockout and all that business nonsense, the promo schedule hasn't been released to fans yet. And, we're fans. We've asked a couple people around the office, and they've been weary of giving us info early in case it's wrong. We already had a puck give away night and a schedule night, and we're hopeful there will be more but we just can't say for sure yet.

Mystery puck night is kind of difficult as well. See, a big majority of the autographs for the whole year are signed during training camp. Usually when the players are getting their physicals on the first day of camp is when the signing happens. This year, again that pesky lockout, they waived a lot of the rules governing physicals and whatnot to get the camps going quick. So, while the organization knows people want a mystery puck night, I'm personally not too sure it'll happen this year.

Where do you think the devils army can go through social media? is it just trying to build a larger fanbase and support at this point or could it grow somehow to bring the fans closer to the team throughout the season and offseason?

also, How can a devils faithful from Edmonton, Canada get a jersey signed by the team? Access to away teams at Rexall is usually restricted.

u/DevilsGenerals Feb 01 '13

A larger, more tight-knit fanbase is the goal!

As for a jersey, we can't help you there. Sorry. :(

Hi guys. Love your passion and little extras you give us in to the Devils.

Do you guys interact with Lou Amarillo at all? Or Lou to busy building a great squad to hang out with you?

We call him Mr. Lamoriello if we ever accidentally cross paths with him.

Does the team give you any special benefits for being Generals? Or do you just run the twitter page/blog?

3

u/DevilsGenerals Feb 01 '13

"We get tickets to games on occasion, and some other perks like the AHL All Star press access so that we can bring the fans a unique view into things. We also get to be the voice of the fans. That's pretty special." -SB

Favorite Devils player(s) of all time? Least favorite Ranger/Flyer/other player of all time? Go.

Also, how many #Devils1stGoal guesses do you typically get a night now?

4

u/DevilsGenerals Feb 01 '13

Well there are several Generals. You can see everyone's favorite players here.

As for least favorite players, it's usually anyone donning Orange & Black or a Rangers jersey.

We average about 200 guess a game, but sometimes it goes up to 300 or more. The number steadily increases as the season goes on.

Always enjoyed watching the game from the comfort of my own home but did go to a viewing party last year at North Brunswick Pub, and my wife and I really enjoyed ourselves. Any idea if there will be others in the Central Jersey/New Brunswick area? I know a lot of fans go to Rutgers University.

4

u/DevilsGenerals Feb 01 '13

Thanks for the love on the NB Pub viewing party! We actually just had a Hurricane Sandy Relief Fundraiser at Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza in Edison (among other ACF locations in NJ) and we will probably be back to Anthony's at some point for an actual viewing party. We're still in the process of putting together our viewing parties throughout the state (we even go to South Jersey!), but when we have them all planned out, we will be promoting them like crazy and they will probably be linked on the Devils website as they were last year.

2

u/DevilsGenerals Feb 01 '13

Also, a good way to get a viewing party is to request one! The more requests, the better. It gives us a good idea of where we need to go. That's how we started to get them in South Jersey. Let us know via Twitter and Facebook.

I know there's a Mission Control center where you guys are headquartered out of. Where in the prucenter is it? Also do you guys work from home or just while at the prucenter?
