General As a developer i am missing the time when there was no AI
AI made us worst in interviews because in technical interviews they say don't use chatgpt only use google and you have to build what they gave you without AI and give you 4 hours but the assignment they give always takes more than 4 hours if you write all the code by yourself. We got productive and able to deliver complex requirements in less time but interviewers don't give a damn literally. I am missing the time without AI, we used to R&D on a lot of websites and also used to watch youtube videos for help, implementation, understanding of anything. Stackoverflow was very popular but today nobody opens it. Developers gets paid high salary and had a great respect if you say that this will take time companies used to believe it and when you deliver something complex you used to get fulfilment and gets appreciated as well. If AI had not come we were better and refined developers and do we really need it a lot of great products made without AI before. We lost the satisfaction and fulfilment we used to get before on building or fixing something. We rarely write code these days the logic and problem solving and fundamentals also affected as companies want everything quickly and we are using AI for it. Interviews got tougher and expectations of companies increased, salaries decreased, less hiring, more firing. I wish something happens AI bubble burst people stop using it.

Yes, I am missing it badly.
sadly from what I can gather, it is never going back. Even if AI bubble bursts, AI is not going away. It's just that cost of AI usage will increase. That would mean companies will adjust to this new reality where AI tokens are limited but they wont be going back to devs.
I think code reviews, bugs and vulnerabilities are the only places where humans will be preferred. I know AI is being used here as well but at least with some technical aspects required for it. those in tech roles would be needed. Otherwise just pure development can be done by anyone with AI.

Bugs? Isn't your AI not helping you root cause and fix issues?
For code review we have tools like code rabbit but thankfully my company is not using it.
Vulnerability was usually caught by blackduck software and if you funnel it to any existing AI like claude it will provide a much better fix than manually fixing it ourselves.
We are here to ensure that we drive those efforts and monitor it and is accountable to explain the exact state of the codebase. Sure you can ask an AI even that but it's a lot faster to ask a person and get it through words rather than reading the text from AI.

Not all bugs are immediately apparent. And AI doesnt ship 100% perfect code. Like I said AI Is being used here as well but companies will keep technical staff in these areas to monitor AI.
My point was, development won't need software developers, a manager without tech background can develop these apps. But for stuff like code review, vulnerability, etc these managers wont have the knowhow to use proper prompts or understand what they are looking for. Most devs will shift here.

AI is getting better, the problem today is often at the context provided by the engineer atleast that has been my experience with opus 5.5.
My company has so many MCP tools attached to claude that they can automate away most stuff.
Again about our value we bring as engineers - It's in explaining to the stakeholder what the current state of the changes are with respect to it's interworkings with different features and what the expected behavior is and if anyone else's change affected the behavior of our feature under specific circumstances. That is exactly what I am dealing with day in day out.
The problems I solve will continue to exist post AI takeover of work. AI will complete tasks but we will still be needed to complete our jobs.
No AI is helping us determine if the product is still scalable or if those assumptions about scalability is slowly eroding with code being pushed. It's our job to ensure we know the whys to all the trade offs. And take a trade off that doesn't limit the product.
My director knows that without me it's going to be difficult to keep track of the product changes

Only thing I miss from pre AI era is stable job market. From purely work perspective I don't miss it nor i think I can ever go back. It would feel like going back to stone age.

But the task would alos be simple na, i mean what they would expect would also be easy, like just build a to do app or like that, just an easy or medium DSA would be enough

Interestingly, AI is an invention done by devs/engineers only. They opened the very capability they were skilled at to the world
