Zerodha
Postman
Zoho
Razorpay
Freshworks
Billdesk

Haven't heard good things about Razorpay lately. Bad middle management and little to no growth.
This could be anecdotal, but, thought this is a relevant subreddit for this.

razorpay customer support is amazing, from what ive heard.

Never replied to me when I tried integrating their APIs for payment tutorials. But that's my experience.

u/Guy-Without-A-Plan Jun 19 '23
Don’t know about how the work culture is at Razorpay but man does it take ages to integrate with, piss poor escalation resolutions and damn do they have quite a few downtimes for a payment’s service.
0
u/waiting4void Jun 19 '23
Ages to integrate it? Maybe i lucked out every time but it just takes just a few hours of development to add it to any e-commerce system (native or 3rd party)
I have found their documentation to be quite upfront.

u/Cringey_Folk Jun 19 '23
Almost every fraud mushroom companies use razorpay as their payment gateway

PayU probably realized they overpaid. Globally tech stocks had taken a beating. Prosus shareholders would not have been happy with all that cash being paid, so they pulled the plug when they could

u/you_need_a_d Jun 19 '23
So basically products that we don't use on a daily basis (except maybe zerodha for few)

Almost any startup which is covered by media outlets like yourstory with titles like "Used to mend shoes, now earns 100 crores a day". Screw you man, 100 crores of revenue means jackshit when backed by marketing burn financed by VC funding and no profitability. Worst is, most of these startups claim this to be a transitory phase, but I hardly see very few startups having a viable path to profit at scale for what has already been invested.
1
1
u/Ok-Independence6469 Jun 20 '23
Otherwise how do you build? Can you start a food delivery startup and scale it to the heights of Zomato and swiggy without burning cash? You need to be aware of the market, you’re not the only one! Truth is, till Investors are there, someone or the other will take up that money and build a bigger brand than you, what does the completion do in that case? Deep pockets can only be fought by deep pockets, especially in such commoditised products!
1
Jun 20 '23
My comment was directed more towards those companies who social media has glamorised with titles like earns 20 crores a day now. Revenue doesn't indicate your net worth or take home income, revenue does help in valuation and goes in multiples, but only when there is a clear exit, which very few are able to manage after years of persistent fund raising and some sustainable business model.
Regarding your point on swiggy and Zomato, you're right, those heights can only be attained through big burning, but eventually it'll stop and that's when the real test of the business starts. We've all seen what happened with wework, marked down so heavily today from their massive valuation earlier. Also such big cash funded startups also lead to corruption and fraud like in the case of gomechanic and mojo story recently, where it's the investors and the employees of the company who were invested in its growth for so long that are affected. Then there's also the case of unlimited cash burning still not leading to a sustainable business model to profitability, like in the case of byjus, billions of funds raised and they currently cannot pay back some of their loans.
I'm not saying all would fail, but most will. Definitely going to be some outliers and those outliers go on to perform very well. I still don't consider swiggy and Zomato to be outliers yet though, they still aren't profitable and are burning cash. They don't have a means to profitability even now. Any drop in marketing money and revenue drops. Even while charging customers delivery fees and taking 30% cut of restaurant orders, they can't profit because they have to constantly keep burning cash for marketing. That level of marketing can't be sustained forever. Anymore increase in commission from restaurants will take them offline, we've already seen concerns raised by restaurant bodies regarding the same.

Phonepe, 15$ billion valuation for what? It's in a very competative market with no real entry barriers or moats. Same goes for Paytm.
1
4
u/Metaltrust1 Jun 20 '23
Go and check their thier UPI market share... customer acquisition cost is big most for both phonepe and gpay
1
u/foundtheneedforanon Jun 20 '23
Thanks for the pointers, but market share can always be taken away. So are you telling me that since they have already built a strong brand by spending so much, others can't also spend so much and take away market share? Not challenging you. But, just asking. I haven't thought in this angle so curious.

Zomato swiggy Flipkart & every ecommerce coz of ondc
6
u/Street-Locksmith2759 Jun 19 '23
ondc kya ha?

ONDC is merely a communication protocol that allows Buyer Network Participants and Seller Network Participants to interact with each other

12
u/Showdamn98 Jun 19 '23
But ondc sucks in terms of customer care.
4
Jun 20 '23
How's your experience with zomato or swiggy in the middle of the night? Mine was horrible!
7
u/Apprehensive-Iron-85 Jun 19 '23
But that makes ONDC better comparatively... Not zomato/swiggy overrated....
Overrated means like Any Bollywood movies of Nepo Kids for example.
2
u/Xijinpingsastry Jun 19 '23
ONDC has Zero compliance when it comes to customer service or addressing complaints. Horrible horrible experience.
1
Jun 20 '23
Bro but it will be cheap and it will help the seller eventually for a fair trade since amazon flipkart like giants promote their company allied products first on the website. Ab dekho india hai implementation mai time lagta hai abhi network chota hai jaise jaise iski marketing hogi toh shayad ye bohot aacha initiative ho sakta hai government ki trf se. And am not supporting any party or speaking of politics but am hoping the best for this initiative called ondc for the good of the msme sellers

Byju's. I remember when I was in college I often used to see advertisement of how Byju's offering 10 LPA to freshers. Little did I know the reality of all this.
136
Jun 19 '23
Byju's will fail 100%. A company whose strategy is to scam and annoy consumers cannot and will not succeed, ever.

u/furballThatSpeaks Jun 19 '23
They scammed me too back when I didn't know any better. (I used to touch grass more than I did this screen)

u/Progressive-Geek Jun 20 '23
Subscriptions are too expensive in Byju's. I downloaded the app back in 2016 when online education was not really an affordable option as 4G hadn't launched and 1GB data cost was around Rs. 180. They had plans for 11th / 12th one year course for 30000 which was discounted to 10000. Even 10k was still too much for a course back then as Jio wasn't launched. When it was new it looted its customers, I wonder what prices are courses now when it is endorsed by celebrities

They are paying 8 lpa to their sales team but they work like slaves, 12-14 hours a day for 7 days a week (its supposed to be 5 days a week but the target they get are unrealistic)

You won't even get anywhere close to the 10 LPA. A lot of it is a performance bonus, which you won't get for obvious reasons.

Byju's. I have a distinct dislike for their sales, and delivery. Personally, I feel they are exploiting the insecurities (of parents), and fear of being left behind.
If I can add one more: Unacademy.
79
u/rohetoric Jun 19 '23
I saw Gaurav Munjal on Nikhil Kamath podcast. That idiot should be slapped so hard because of his idiotic decisions so many people have been laid off in Unacademy and man thinks he's done nothing wrong.

u/Lost-Vermicelli-4840 Jun 19 '23
Well, exploiting insecurities of parents is what the jee/neet coachings are doing since the starting of Bansal classes/CP star, etc.
9
Jun 19 '23
What else did you think? If the coaching started telling that if their child is good enough for JEE, they can self study and clear Mains(and similar stuff for other competitive), then Education wouldn't be the muti billion dollar business in India it's today.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (2)2
u/snc2241 Jun 20 '23
And they do it without any rules and regulations. Schools and colleges have to fulfill minimum requirements. Coaching classes pack in young people like sardines . Their success rates are really exaggerated. With thousands of students, few will definitely pass and then they pay many a successful students to appear on their ads and bulletins.

They literally bully people into taking their courses, and their classes are complete scam. I was 5 years exp on a product based company when I thought I will try out scaler, because I was thinking to switch. Eventually I realised they are just scammers, and instead of paying an odd 1.5L, i can just read things by myself. The guy called me and started saying 'you haven't done anything for your carrier for the past 5 years, you can't crack any other jobs if you don't join scaler' wtf bitch, it's my wish if I join or not, and my wish when I want to switch jobs, anyways I joined another product based MNC with 270% hike, and when the scaler guy called again, let's say we had some fun. :)

If you don't mind can you share some details on how you managed to get such a Hike? I'm at the exact same stage with 5+ years of experience and am looking to switch. What was your gameplan? Did you Target a certain level or a company? And how much prep time did you need to be ready for the interviews? Thanks already

A lot of the "Ed-Tech" space isn't really innovating or improving education the way it ideally should have; it's just the same classroom education being delivered off the internet.

Zerodha is the kohinoor of indian startups .. just looking at their customer base and profit margin. Knew the guys when they had leased the trading setup from NSE ... never expected they would succeed to this extent and also create a related ecosystem of other fintech products. Best part is that they are not funded by any of the biggies that can deviate from their vision and ethics.

you know what? I think guy is using just his yt stats and he somehow managed to get downloads on app and now he claims things like investor invests because we have proof like users and all. Most of the edtech and fintech are just cash burns and nothing to show for it... Even paytm
2
1
u/Primary_Top_3299 Jun 20 '23
Paytm has made this distinct monopoly over their users by creating virtual wallets they have to pay to use and have a percentage tax to add more money to it but a higher tax to even remove money from it back to the bank. This creates a downward going spiral where the user is compelled to use the V-wallet system because they have invested so much in it already meanwhile the company profits from minimal tax from thousands of users everyday.

like everyone said... Byjus, They are creazily valued imo and charging 2L for a school going kids is a foolishness when many things are free on YouTube and other startups and indie educators are selling the same stuffs in 5-7 percent value.
30
Jun 19 '23
Unfortunately most of current startups. They all boast their valuations 'Maine 3 saal me 3 billion ki company banayi hai' etc. But big part comes from funds raised from equity shareholders, instead of actual earnings for equity (i.e. amount left after paying all expenses, interests, taxes non-equity dividends etc). Although valuation is good measure of a company's performance, these people are abusing it to the fullest for short term gains of founders and shareholders.
42
u/rahulok19 Jun 19 '23
Bookmyshow.. their tech stack used to be strong and they saw good times without any competition but NOW they need a pivot, a strong pivot to sail through the OTT era and competition like Paytm.
