Discussion Forget Defense, Here’s a Rant about Offense

Some of the problems I see:

- Jokic’s best days could be behind him, and AG is already there. Jokic is one of the greatest 3-level scorers in NBA history, but to start off the season his 3-pointer has been abysmal and, even more concerning, he’s dramatically regressed around the rim. His middy touch has still looked elite, but without the physical bully ball he’s used in the past he won’t be top 3 in the league anymore. AG has lost a step as well, which means our X-factor is Murray. He’s not a physical player and relies on penetration to score, and can be inconsistent shooting from outside. If the days of needing to double Jokic inside are over, Jamal will draw the toughest defense and he’s shown time and again he can’t carry the team when facing elite physical defensive teams

- Bench shooting. We just don’t have space for DeMar to get in his bag or Bagley to play bully ball because no one is scared of our guards/wings going on a heater. Brazile is good at off-ball creation and could be a threat with improved his shooting touch and getting Strawther/Spencer Jones back will help some, but that’s just the bare minimum for the bench minutes to be successful without turning into “the DeMar Show.” Tyus Jones, Diallo, Hopkins, Whitmore, etc are just not good offensively

- Personnel. What does DaRon Holmes contribute to this team? It pisses me off to no end that we TRADED UP to get him. What exactly was the plan there? He’s got talent but plays like a 6’9” wing instead of bulking up and using size. We’re stuck with a guy whose only skill is athleticism as our backup center because the guy we drafted can’t play inside. Strawther has potential but needs to turn the ball over less to be a solid rotation piece when he returns. Diallo and Hopkins we know we won’t get much from offensively at the start at least

I bring all this up because lots of folks are blaming Cam Johnson’s injury for our rough patch to begin. However, being down a starter is damn near a fact of life in the NBA and despite Brazile being a revelation we just don’t have enough “next men up.” That combined with the starters’ regression makes me very concerned about our ability to outscore good teams. We’re gonna need either some changes or several lucky breaks to avoid the play-in

The West is Wide Open…and We Look like Ass.

Ant is having knee surgery.

Cason Wallace and Jalen Williams are out for the year for the OKC Thunder.

The door in our division is wide open and the Conference could be a crap shoot (non-Spurs situations).

And we look like complete and utter ass. This is so frustrating.

Discussion What do you think about blowing it up next season?

First three games in, and I've never seen our offense struggle this hard in the Jokić prime era. The two-man game with Murray seems to be well defended now, and I'm wondering if it's time to blow it up next season with a sign-and-trade Jokić?

Ideal next steps?

Ok so we can all already see that this team is looking questionable at best. Effort seems lacking, offensive rhythm seems super inconsistent, players aren’t playing like themselves, and everyone’s got a very defensive and complacent attitude.

On one hand we can chalk it up to overreacting to our first games. But when we got punked so badly in the playoffs, and then jump into the new season with the same energy, it’s cause for concern. Especially in an off season where “everything but Jokic is on the table”, where words like complacent were being thrown around. Not to mention the Kroenke’s spending money elsewhere but tightening up finances for our team, it really makes you wonder if we can take this team seriously at all.

So, what would the ideal next step be? In a perfect world with a proactive front office, what would you want for this team? The way I see it we have a handful of options, but who knows what the FO wants to do. We could:

1) Try to make it work with the team as it is

2) Fire Adelman, promote Joerger

3) Make a significant trade or two

4) Total rebuild

I’m not sure if there are any other avenues for us. But you have to ask yourself how serious this team really is, and what would be best for our immediate future as well as our long term plans. And sure it’s only been 3 games and we already have injured guys, but I really don’t like what I’m seeing. What do you guys think?

Jokic's discontent for fan booing feels like a double edged sword...

Jokic has made it very clear fans booing is unacceptable to him. Fans have made it very clear they are frustrated with the team by continuing to boo.

I think this is a big dilemma. Yes, fans should be frustrated and need to voice that. Booing I think is the wrong way. When you boo someone its basically a giant "fuck you". Is that what we are really saying to Jokic, Murray, AG etc?

I have been a fan since Chris Jackson existed and played for Denver (little humor; for those that don't know Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf). I have been there for some really terrible and frustrating times with this team. Not once have I considered booing "my" team.

Here's where the double edged sword plays in... Jokic has made it clear in the past he doesn't want to play anywhere but Denver. He has a player option after this season and looking to sign an extension. If his feelings about booing are legit and fans continue, what's going to stop him from walking/retiring at the end of this season? Are fans ready to root for a Nuggets team SANS Jokic?

Realistically I know fans booing is more aimed at ownership and the coaching staff. My whole point is if you really feel the need to boo your favorite players, just be careful what you wish for...

Effort question

Like most of yall, big nuggets fan. What’s perplexing to me is this teams attitude towards the media, fan, and world sentiment. Do they not know how bad they look? Do they know snd not care? Do they thinking tell us they look good will change something. How can they be so confused about how they look and double down on it.

Any lineup with Derozan - jokic - jamal doesn't make sense

With Jokic & Jamal in there, we typically have 1 shooter, 1 dunker-spot, and 1 cutter, and preferably a mix of players who can do 2 or more of those.

Derozan does none of those particularly well. He just clogs up the space. There were so many instances where he got the ball wide open in the corner and just... dribble inside to shoot a less efficient fadeaway 2. Any advantage we created was immediately negated.

Derozan should only be on the floor when we don't have Jokic / Jamal in there, through whom we can reliably create offensive advantage.

Not saying Derozan doesn't have a place on the team. He should be used with the bench units when we don't have other means of creating an advantage on the half court.

On the defensive end, we need other plus defenders with Jokic & Jamal. There was one particular play where Derozan hedged against Steph (like the greatest shooter of all time???) while Jamal was stuck behind a screen.

Adelman isn't using his players well and putting them in a position to succeed.

Who would be the best available and realistic coach for the Nuggets?

I see a lot of comments and posts wanting to fire Adelman. I agree that he doesn’t seem up to the job. But letting him go without a realistic option to replace him would be self defeating.

My personal opinion is the Nuggets need a more vocal, visible leader at coach because Jokic and Jamal are not the types to fire up the team and hold people accountable. Hey also need a guy who can use offensive rotations more effectively and cultivate the younger talent.

But who is out there right now that could help this team return to playoff contender status?

Discussion What is going on with the current Denver Nuggets?

A rare Gordon ejection, lackadaisical effort and lack of care for basketball from Murray and Jokic. Plays no longer being ran through Jokic, and once again a 9 man rotation where few of the people we brought in during the off season get to play. Adelman managing to look like a random man instead of a team’s head coach even more than usual, alongside Demar’s depressing tweet. What managed to kill the vibes amongst this team so rapidly?

Article [Denver Post] Jokic doubles down on the boos: “I’m sticking to what I said... I think they are not real fans”

Jokic was asked about his comments again after saying fans who booed the Nuggets in the home opener weren’t welcome anymore, and he definitely isn’t walking them back.

He said he’s played in all kinds of environments, including Europe, but isn’t used to fans booing their own team.

When asked if that’s the difference with European crowds, where most of the hostility is directed at the opponent, he basically doubled down again: “I think they are not real fans.”

I miss chubbyJokic

I genuinely think the weight loss after his knee injury kinda nerfed him and affected his touch and post game. He was able to back down and box-out mostly everyone in the paint but now I've seen him struggle to even secure rebounds against players way smaller than him.

Jokic slow start similar to last year

I for one do get some bad vibes from Adelman as coach. I don't know what it is but it never seemed like the right choice and its hard to see him as a championship-winning coach. However, one thing that its far too early to worry about is how Jokic is playing. Last year, Jokic played five games in October against relatively easy opponents (Warriors, Suns, Wolves, Pelicans, Blazers).

his averages:

20.4/14.4/10.8 on 59/24/86 shooting

After that he put together one of the best stretches in basketball history.

So yes, there are some obvious flaws early in the season that need to be addressed for this team to even make a little noise in the playoffs. However, I am not at all worried about Jokic at this point.
