Help/Advice Additional Bag

I’m sure this has been brought up multiple times here.

I booked my wife and daughter separately from my reservation in order to use a companion ticket. I have already had Delta link our two reservations. I have the Delta Platinum Amex so I get two free checked bags, but we need a third.

Is it just dependent on the gate agent if we get the third for free or will we have to pay?

Hindsight - I should have used the companion ticket and booked myself so the person under my reservation also got a free checked bag.

Waiting to come in to the plane they immediately went beyond their service and they actually allowed my wheelchair to fit inside the closet in the cabin . I love Delta ! Is amazing. I’m so happy to be here. Everyone is so helpful and friendly. Being in a wheelchair is so scary in such a big airport like Atlanta . 4th flight ✈️ ✔️keeping it positive. I will update in 5 hours . 🥰

Help/Advice Premium Select headphone jack

I am on a very long flight in an Airbus 350-900 and I'm going crazy trying to find the jack for the two prong complimentary headphones. Please tell me where this is located. Explain it to me like I'm 5. Nobody I can see from my seat is watching anything so I can't figure this out by looking at anyone else.

Edit/update:::Found it. Jfc. It is basically behind me at the way back of the center arm rest, tucked way inside a little cubby. You can't see it. It faces backwards inside the front wall of the cubby behind you. You have to feel around inside that front wall the find it. Leaving this up for future people who can't find it.

Help/Advice Free carry on check

First time flying Delta. When checking in I was offered to check our carry on bags for free due to it being a full flight. I selected the option and checked in but now I do not see it anywhere else on the app or showing as me having bags.

Also, is it possible to add my passenger’s carry-on to the free check in after the fact?

Discussion Chickens on board

I was on a Southern California to Seattle flight just now and saw something I’ve never seen before. Two people were wearing chicken costumes with large chicken heads. I mean like clucking large—each the width of à seat. The entire three hour flight they were trying to peck each other or their seat. It was soooo absurd. I couldn’t stop looking at them even when I tried focusing on work. They were going bonkers!!! It was distracting and amusing. Maybe Halloween related?

What’s the most absurd and large costume others have seen on Delta flights?

Discussion Passengers of size policy

2.6k Upvotes

I have flown on Delta flights 8 times in the past 2 months and I’ve noticed a difficult pattern. Of those 8 flights, I’ve been seated beside a larger passenger for 6 of them.

To be clear: I am not the person who wants to shame or insult anyone’s body, especially not on a flight where we’re all uncomfortable and packed in like sardines. BUT I am struggling with the fact that there seems to be little done at the policy level to ensure comfort in these situations.

On my most recent flight, I was in an aisle with a larger passenger in the middle. They encroached completely into my space to the point where my entire shoulder and one of my legs HAD to go in the aisle. Every time a FA walked by, she admonished me and told me to stay out of the aisle. I didn’t want to embarrass the person beside me by pointing to them, but it was CLEAR that they were taking a good portion of my space. There was literally nowhere else for me to go. I was embarrassed every time this FA acted like I was the problem in the situation.

This was (as I mentioned) the 6th occurrence like this in two months time. I am a relatively average-sized person in weight and height, and I am consistently forced to sacrifice my seating space for a passenger who exceeds their seating space. One instance was so bad that I couldn’t even lower my tray table because their legs blocked me. I’ve seen the FAs notice this, but it just seems like nothing can ever be done because delta wants to charge a premium for any seats with extra space and these people beside me are unwilling/unable to pay for those.

I miss the days when flights consistently had empty seats and larger passengers could be accommodated around these.

I don’t blame the FAs or the other passengers themselves, but I’m frustrated and burnt out after having 6 out of 8 flights go this way. No one is comfortable on planes, but I’m beyond tired of spending $700+ on a domestic trip only to be cramped, squished, and folded in my own seat because someone beside me exceeds the space of theirs. I don’t care who’s to blame—it’s not about that. I just want to see a solution. It looks like the only way around this is to pay an extra $300+ per flight for comfort plus. I’m not in a place where I can pay over $1k for flights 4x per month, and so I just wish something else could be done here.

Wondering if anyone has found tactful ways to avoid these issues or if this is just the price we pay for airlines making seats smaller and smaller in an era where a good portion of the population is oversized.

Discussion What’s the most confusing or frustrating thing about flying Delta lately?

Flying can be an adventure, but sometimes the airline experience raises more questions than answers. From changes that leave regular travelers feeling overlooked to questionable meal choices and flight details that sound like they belong in a sci-fi movie, Delta always gives passengers something to talk about. ✈️

What’s your most memorable Delta experience recently, and what’s one thing you wish the airline would improve?

Help/Advice Anyone try Aeromexico?

I have to fly to Brazil at least once a year and was wondering if anyone who usually flies Delta has flown Aeroméxico, and has anything good or bad to say about them. Delta is just too expensive. I know Latam is less expensive but I am hoping to stay in the alliance/earn XP to qualify as platinum again on Flying Blue.

Shitpost/Satire Getting agent to print price paid on boarding pass

I choose Delta specifically so that I can pay more for my travel and feel secure as a member of the Professional Managerial Class. Considering the at-will nature of my employment, achieving this sense of security is very important to me, and I am willing to pay for it. Delta’s recent fare hikes have been great because now simply telling people I’m flying Delta often elicits reactions of awe, and I can feel their respect for me go up immediately. There’s one problem, though: infrequent travelers have no idea what a status symbol flying Delta is.

I’m about to go on a trip with my friends Bear, Ian, and Sarah, and they almost never fly. I purchased all the tickets, and we’re on a single PNR. Do you think I can work with the check-in agent to add a line to printed boarding pass “ATL-SAV TOTAL PRICE PER PASSENGER: $950” or similar? I feel like this will help it sink in, even for my friends. In fact, I’d be willing to pay $100 more per ticket just to be able to make this flex.

Discussion At some point, airline loyalty stops making sense when the price difference gets ridiculous

I understand that Delta isn't always going to be the cheapest airline, and I'm willing to pay a little extra for a better schedule, fewer headaches, or a more convenient route. But there's a limit to how much of a premium I think an airline can reasonably expect regular travelers to accept.

When the fare difference gets huge, loyalty starts feeling less like a reward and more like an excuse to spend extra money. Not everyone flies enough to benefit from status, and not everyone travels for work with someone else covering the bill. For people paying out of their own pockets, the actual ticket price matters.

I also think comparing fares should be about the entire experience, not just the brand name. If another airline offers a reasonable schedule and gets me to the same destination safely, it's hard to justify paying dramatically more just to stay loyal.

Loyalty should give customers a reason to keep coming back, not make them feel guilty for choosing a cheaper flight.

Delta can absolutely charge a premium if travelers see enough value in what they're getting. But regular passengers shouldn't have to convince themselves that every expensive ticket is worth it.

At what price difference would you stop choosing Delta and book another airline instead?

Discussion EOY MQD Sprint - Pls be brutally honest with me

I travel for work, but had a few slow months and occasionally fly United, so for the third year I’m <$1000 short of gold medallion. I don’t have a delta CC but live in a hub. I may have 1-2 more work trips left to bill for the year so may hit the spend but I’m debating opening a plat card for the MQD bonus.

I need someone to tell me if this is ridiculous to pay $350 fee for status. I’m debating booking a trip for 48 hours just to use miles to get the MQD spend but that feels silly as well. The $350 card fee would be less than a trip so it feels more fiscally responsible long term? I live in a delta hub but rarely check a bag, so the other card benefits aren’t that impressive.

Why do I need gold medallion? I don’t but for whatever reason I’m frustrated I keep getting so close year after year. From a credit perspective, I have an 800+ score and no CC debt, wouldn’t be opening the card to spend but hit the bonus and let it sit so little risk there.

Delta Amex I’m done with American

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Moving to Atlanta for work I always travelled Delta. It’s synonymous with Atlanta like Home Depot and the Atlanta falcons.

Then 7 years ago I moved to Charlotte expecting the same treatment. As of today I’m done with American! Not once have I been upgraded. This weekend I purchased a basic ticket to visit family. Over the weekend I had a client at a hospital in the region and need to change the flight. Knowing this was looming a few days earlier I upgraded to first class. Ability to check an extra bag (work suit), early boarding and ability to change. The day before I had some downtime and they denied the change.

So I upgraded for nothing and couldn’t make the flight. I typically recommend my guys to use American but as of today I’m done!

Also kudos to delta I’ll never forget when my aunt passed away from cancer you were there. I’m glad to be back

Help/Advice Definitive Guide to "Has Delta Lost Their Mind On Pricing" Posts

Underestimating the convenience premium

- Nonstop flights command a premium. People (and businesses) are willing to pay for the convenience/time savings
- Flights at "reasonable" hours will be cheaper than flights at odd hours (ex. redeyes)
- Flights during "peak" periods (M/Th/F, around major holidays) will be more expensive than flights during "low" periods

I think broadly people know that the convenience premium exists. But the complaint posts seem to underestimate the magnitude of the premium. Yes, ATL-MSP on Delta is going to cost a lot more than ATL-ORD-MSP on United. The difference could easily be on the order of several hundred dollars. I promise you Delta has not made any mistakes in this matter. They have a lot of data and have thoroughly analyzed consumer behavior. While a $500 price difference for a nonstop flight might seem ludicrious to you, it is a perfectly acceptable amount for someone else (or some business). It's possible you can't afford to fly these "convenient" flights. You need to fly at the crack of dawn and have a layover instead. And that is perfectly fine; I cant afford it either for my personal travel. But the convenience premium is also just the reality of supply/demand, there's no need to take it personally or get "offended"

Refusal to accept the unknown

Sometimes flights vary in price for seemingly no reason at all. Maybe there's a large conference in the city you are connecting through. maybe a local school/church/college sports team did a group booking taking up 3/4 of the seats on your local CRJ feeder flight. nobody knows for sure. But the reality is that these price variations happen, and they happen to every airline. just look at UA/AA subreddits and you'll see the same complaints about randon exorbitant pricing. So even if delta is your preferred airline, if you want to save some money sometimes you need to be flexibile in your choice of airline. And that is totally fine and normal as well

Explanations I Don't Fully Agree With

- Iran War. While the (candidly, idiotic) war has undoubtably raised fuel prices, most complaints I see are centered on some sort of price comparison ("Delta is $1200 but AA is $400"). Fuel prices are elevated across the board, so these price discrepencies are better explained by the factors I mentioned above
- Corporate Greed. Yes, Delta wants to maximize profits. but so does every other airline. Every single airline will charge as much as people will pay, so at the end of the day the pricing is still a matter of supply/demand. Delta has a bit of a (imo unjustified) "premium airline" reputation that can maybe allow them to price flights a little bit higher, but a 4x price discrepency is almost certainly due to some other factors

Discussion Baggage frustration.

Just wanted to vent a little. Been flying Delta for years. At least every other month for work, and for vacation now and then.

Recently, I had to deal with lost baggage on 2 Delta flights.

This was a multi-city trip. 1st leg was vacation, and I was 1st class. Flew to Montreal.

Layover was in Detroit. Even though it was pouring rain, we were delayed about 2 hours because they didn't have a crew.

I arrived in Montreal, my air tag showed my bag was still in Detroit. The Delta rep in Montreal was totally cool, and helpful. Said I would have my bag by midnight.

I got my bag around 8pm that night. Cool.

I open it up, and realized all my clothes are damp. So not only was my bag late, but it obviously sat out on the tarmac in the rain. I was pretty pissed off.

After my time in Montreal, I flew Air Canada-United to Florida for work. No status on those, and was in the very last row. Bag made it, no issues.

Upon leaving Florida, I was once back on Delta. Made it home, and guess what? No bag. This time, I got a text telling me. Finally got it back later that night, but at least my clothes were dry.

(Bad) luck of the draw?

Help/Advice Bumped from Comfort+

Gold status here and booked comfort+ seats a few months ago. Go to sleep Saturday night and wake up with a travel itinerary change that now has me going through ATL. When I go to switch it back to my original (and direct) flight there are no comfort+ seats left.

Anyone else deal with something like this before?

Discussion Has Delta officially decided regular travelers aren't worth keeping anymore?

Maybe I'm missing something, but what exactly is going on with Delta's version of Basic Economy now?
I travel through my employer, and somewhere along the way it feels like the experience got dramatically worse. I don't even see normal seat selection anymore. From what I can tell, I don't earn SkyMiles or MQDs on these trips either. I also can't figure out if there's even a way to pay for an upgrade myself.
The frustrating part is that none of this was obvious until I was booking. It just feels like another round of benefit cuts wrapped up as a product change.
What gets me is that Delta used to feel different from the other airlines. Lately it feels like they're going all in on premium customers while making the experience noticeably worse for everyone else. Every year there seems to be a new restriction, a missing benefit, or another thing pushed behind a paywall.
At what point does loyalty stop making sense? If I'm losing miles, seat selection, upgrade options, and flexibility, then what exactly am I getting in return?
Genuinely asking: am I misunderstanding this, or has Delta basically decided that if you're not spending a ton of money, you're not the customer they want anymore?
I'm honestly at the point where I'm considering moving my business back to United or American because this just feels unnecessarily greedy. Instead of making the product better, Delta keeps finding ways to make it feel worse.
This is likely an unpopular take, but it feels like Delta is testing how much they can take away before people finally stop defending it.

Thankful, but also pretty tired.

Worst part is I was originally flying United today but delayed origin flight sent me back to my first love but in the last red seat, 1A which give me less legroom than exit row 🤣

Discussion Anyone else feel like Delta has gotten ridiculously expensive for regional flights?

I get that prices change depending on the route, but some of these short flights are getting hard to justify. You look at a flight that's barely an hour and the price is somehow more than you expected to pay for a much longer trip.

And then you start comparing other airlines, checking different dates, moving your plans around just to see if the fare drops. All that work for a short flight.

I like flying Delta, but at some point it's hard not to look at the price and wonder if it's really worth it.

Have any of you noticed this on your usual routes lately, or is it just certain airports?
