Shitpost/Satire IT HAPPENED
I am happily writing to you all today that this silver mediallion member got upgraded to first class. Not some short 50 minute flight, mind you, but a cross country flight departing soon this evening. I will have a glass of wine for the each upvote this gets.

Taking a drink with you as a fellow silver currently on a flight where I also received a FC upgrade. Cheers!

Hello all! Thank you for the support, I did not expect this to blow up and as such, i regret to inform you that I had 6 wines, not 2000.

u/yungspritecan Aug 30 '26
To all those asking, yes I did post this before boarding and thankfully I did not jinx myself. I'll remember for the future

It happened to me once!!! Then they canceled the flight. I'm still scarred.

u/Plastic-Addendum-484 Aug 28 '26
I missed a flight this summer (totally my fault) and had them rerouted to lga where I found myself with a first class seat home. Got on the re-routed flight, only to sit on the tarmac for 1.5 hours. Arrived at LGA, where I had to run … missed the gates shutting by a minute or so. Your story reminded me of my scar too. 🤣

u/Fernandolamez Aug 29 '26
I've been upgraded to first class twice just because the ticket/gate agents said I was polite, patient and understanding in a chaotic rebooking and cancelation scenario. First time there were 3 people in my party. Second time it was just two of us. One time as a kid flying alone to Europe they (Swissair) let me sit in last row of first class to watch the in flight movie. My grandfather died in service to KLM in 1938 or 1939. When my family flew back and forth to Holland in the 1960s the flight crew would line up on the tarmac and board before the other passengers. Officers would salute. First time I flew on a different airline I asked why the pilots didn't salute us. I've never had a frequent flyer account and airlines have changed quite a bit over the years. So I sympathize with traveler's who use the same airlines over and over and little in return.

Apparently it’s nickel shot night at O'Callaghans on that flight. Cheers.

u/Unstupid Aug 28 '26
Don't jinx yourself... Post about your upgrade after you are in the air.
35
u/cleanact_jw Aug 28 '26
Sir/ma’am. Ed has asked that we remove your ass and place you in your original middle seat. Thank you.

u/Parking-Ad-5348 Aug 29 '26
And this is a very fair point. Several years ago, I was upgraded to first class and was there less than five minutes when the flight attendant came and got me and said the guy had made the flight. I don’t know what I was thinking about doing in that situation, but I wanted to complain to Delta. I don’t know what happens when you’ve been upgraded to first class, the person shows up before takeoff, and then they ask you to go back to your seat. Of course I was in Delta comfort so I wasn’t awful, but I was stumped as to what I should’ve done.

u/cleanact_jw Aug 30 '26
Really… nothing.
Send a complaint and get some points.
You laugh and go about your day.

u/JD_tubeguy Aug 28 '26
OP dead of alcohol intoxication on their first first class flight. We hardly knew ye.

I will have a glass of wine for the each upvote this gets.
Based on this, I'm guessing you are going to have an SLC based crew that doesn't believe in more than one glass per flight.
34
u/Thick_Goose7742 Aug 28 '26
No lie, SLC generates some seriously alcohol stingy crews.

I got one of those last year as a silver, on an early morning BOS-MSP flight. Ended up sitting next to a minor PBS celebrity.

u/Super_Sloth_99 Aug 28 '26
Was it one of the guys from This Old House?
10
u/mpjjpm Aug 28 '26
It was Jen Nawada

u/Super_Sloth_99 Aug 28 '26
Sweet!
14
u/mpjjpm Aug 28 '26
She was really nice. I actually did an ATOH segment with Mauro a couple of years earlier, but didn’t want to pester her. She initiated the conversation and I told her about my experience with the show. We chatted a bit until the doors closed. Then both politely ignored each other for the rest of the flight.

u/Decent-Bear334 Aug 28 '26
I once sat next to a celebrity from the Meet The Parents movies. They drank wine like tomorrow was the end of world.

I had paid for premium seats for my family for my bucket-list trip to Hawaii. I got upgraded to first, and I felt so guilty that I told my husband and kids that one of them could have it. My darling husband stopped me and immediately said that it was my job that got me the status to get the upgrade. He and the boys stayed in premium while I had the first class experience.

u/tech-guy-says-reboot Aug 31 '26
I didn't think you were eligible for upgrades if there were more than 2 people on the itinerary.
1
u/Klutzy-Leather2664 Aug 31 '26
you could, only if you were checked in separately (the person with status checking in by themselves.) the other 2 people didn't get the benefit

u/travelatesanddranks Aug 28 '26
You won’t get 160 glasses of wine unless you show them this post. Then it’s a challenge. Good luck

Congrats, what a thrill! I never have mentioned it before because people just love to complain regardless, but the first flight I had crossing into silver medallion I got upgraded to first Dtw to tpa. Man did I think life was great, not only was it my first time having a meal on a flight, but it was my first time flying first class ever.
I remember the flight attendant asking me what I wanted for my PDB and I responded “uh, what do you have” and that made him chuckle because I obviously wasn’t a frequent flyer at the time.
17
u/cecebebe Aug 28 '26
The first (only) time I got upgraded to D1, I had no clue what I was doing.
I'm a poor.
The man next to me ordered champagne, so I ordered champagne. If he had ordered a Woodford's, I would have had a Woodford's. If he'd asked for beer, I would have had beer.

I’ve been upgraded to first several times as a silver…but I think it’s because I’m flying in/out of Alaska and I have the reserve Amex. Last month’s flight to MSP in FC was a letdown though…no blanket, charging ports were broken, seatbelt sign on almost the entire way (though little turbulence), so only one round of drinks (none during boarding either), with the bonus fun of a manspreading snorer neighbor.
So glad I didn’t pay for the upgrade!

u/agiamba Aug 29 '26
I got upgraded frequently from New Orleans to Atlanta, which is like an hour flight so woohoo. One time there was an Intercontinental 767 on the route, with like 25 first class seats, with built in massage. I was pumped. My chair was broke.

We got an upgrade for first class DTW to Orlando. New plane too. Silver medallion. It was crazy.

u/No-Ad-4569 Aug 28 '26
Wow impressive. I’m platinum and still haven’t gotten a FC upgrade. Only once as Gold. That’s how they sucker us all in. Have a great flight! Hope it’s a nice new aircraft.

u/Pure-Chemistry7323 Aug 29 '26
Diamond here and still rarely get upgraded. Always the next on the list when all the FC seats are filled…. Frustrating.

I just got upgraded to premium select from hnl-atl yesterday, never thought that could happen, I'm already happy with a comfort plus

u/gmingucci Aug 29 '26
It might also make you feel better that this diamond medallion flyer (with 2x Delta Amex cards) had to sit in a middle seat on a 3.5 hr flight today. Ed giveth & Ed taketh away.

u/firenzefacts Aug 29 '26
Wow congrats! even years as platinum all I ever got was comfort (now I dont even have status)

u/steveaspesi Aug 29 '26
Are you writing while seated in fc or are somewhere near the gate while jinxing your chances?

u/Amazing_Ebb536 Aug 28 '26
91 glasses of wine hell yeah! As a Silver who upgraded to first on my current flight for 8,000 skymiles, I’ll match half! 💀

I got upgraded to first class as a Silver Medallion. Went from SDF to LGA a few summers ago and somehow got lucky. Best I can do now is Comfort Plus, but I hold out hope that maybe someday I will hit the Delta lottery again.

On Tueaday I gor upgraded from main to C+ then at the airport found out I was in FC. It was the longer of my 2 flights as well. Congratulations! I dont think you'll be having over 1k glasses of wine. They'd cut you off, they'd run out and/or death by alcohol poisoning. May the odd be ever in your favor.

u/TightEducation3511 Aug 30 '26
Hope you get nice and drunk and sleep the rest of the flight in fabulous 180 degrees

u/no_cigar_tx Aug 28 '26
On the bright side, it's at 225 now so best case scenario is this pleb gets hammered, does something dumb to get put on the NFL and we never have to see them in J again!

u/Kaimund Aug 28 '26
Got mine earlier this year as a Silver with my wife, MCI>JFK from C+ to F, albeit on a CRJ9. Now that I’m Gold it’s never happening again

There’s got to be more to this. Did you get the F seat and they were out of liquor and food? Did the guy next to you take off his shoes and trim his nails on the bulkhead wall? I wanna hear what happened next. 😁Good for you I love to see upgrades like that happen.

u/Wise_Run_7340 Aug 29 '26
Good for you! I hope you catch a first class buzz on the wine! You deserve it!

Not sure if they still do it, but they used to upgrade fresh silver medallions. So that may have been the reason. After this you will be lucky to get a first class upgrade at silver. But a win is a win.

Happened to me once earlier this year on one leg of my return flight from MEX to DTW. A few weeks later and I was converted to gold again. Now wondering if I have enough flights and other activity to hit platinum status for next year. Given my recurring route is DTW-ATL I still doubt that I’ll get more than a few upgrades.

u/MrReview481 Aug 29 '26
That’s one thing I love about Delta. All he upgrades. Got an upgrade on all my last flights from ATL/MSP to MEX (and on the way back) :-) And just made it to Platinum status and can’t wait for more upgrades.

u/Deeze_Rmuh_Nudds Aug 29 '26
Where to where?
Congrats man. I’m still waiting for this as a fellow silver. I fly all the time but only manage a FC upgrade during short hops on the west coast.

Me and my family of 3 were upgraded to first class on an international flight home once.

u/152is2after150 Aug 29 '26
This happens to me all the time, idk why it's unusual for everyone else
4
u/kvom01 Aug 29 '26
Because they have been selling the upgrades cheaply rather than giving them to loyalists

It can definitely happen on a lot of regional flights in and out of LGA/JFK since the flights are either too short or experience not quite premium enough for people to pay up even $50. For one extra drink and maybe 1-2 minutes saved deplaning, it’s not worth it for a standard passenger to get paid.

u/traly0810 Sep 03 '26
Amazing, congratulations!! This gives me hope. Silver elite and never upgraded. Always wondered if it’s because I’m traveling with my now teen (she has a skymiles account) But for whatever reason, the crew is always great to my kid when we travel—they always give her extra snacks, she got to go into the cockpit and meet the pilot 5 x in the last 4 years. Once they came by and gave her an amenities kit from first class because she was so polite. Anyway, that’s amazing that it happened to you!

u/Any_Call_2535 Sep 21 '26
I think it just depends on the route you fly. I've flown JFK-LAX, SLC-BOS, ATL-SFO and I didn't even get a comfort plus upgrade. I've never had higher status than silver medallion and I have gotten many first class cross country upgrades. It's always been on the JFK-SAN/SAN-JFK routes. At least 5 times I believe in the last year.
